Steve Vai Crossroads Suite PDF screenshot
PDF | 1.71 MB
Although the musical climax to “Crossroads” was omitted from the soundtrack album, it still became a favorite of students and probably the most frequently requested work to be transcribed. So, here it is in its entirety, except for segment where Jack Butler (played by Steve Vai) tries in vain to recreate the classical licks from “Eugene’s Trick Bag”.

“Butler’s Bag” — Soloing Off Chords
“Headcuttin’ Duel” — A trading licks duel between Lai and Cooder
“Eugene’s Trick Bag” — Steve’s Arpeggio Treat

Best Where have you been. He is not even close to Eddie when Eddie was sleeping.
Ed made a guitar,
Ed made and amp
Ed made a style that blew everyone off the world.
LOL

Pffft, got to chime in here, you have no idea buddy.

Both are guitar Gods.

Both made guitars and amps, Vai actually made a guitar and it was so unique it actually needed it's own scales to be created, by Vai.

Do more research.

Yes Not even close Ed took a piece of second grade neck and body from a junk pile.
And transformed it into one of the hottest guitars ever built.

Did Via build his own Guitar?
Did he invent his own sound with a variac?

Yes you are 100 % correct not even close.

Ed is a legend. But anyway we all have our Heroes.

You're saying Eddie is an unmatched guitarist because he built his own guitar and built his own amps? LOL

No he mastered the tapping, and artificial harmonics .

I can say that Eruption was the biggest guitar hit in history.
He also played a bad ass Lead in Beat it.

Now please tell me where is one hit that Vai has made that is even close to those.

Steve Vai is far superior in terms of tapping and harmonics playing technique. There is no comparison. This is a fact that everyone who can play guitar knows. The feel may be completely different, but Vai can play all of Eddie's phrases, while Eddie can't play all of Vai's phrases (for example, Vai is such a master that he can play the song "Knappsack" without picking at all). If we are comparing purely guitarists, that's all that matters. The commercial talk of number of sales and number of hit songs is not the issue.
Nor is Vai's work negligible in terms of songwriting. In fact, when I was at Berklee, there were many rock guitar students who were influenced by Vai's writing, but none of them were learning guitar writing because of Eddie. That's how big Vai's influence is.
Of course, I DO NOT mean to underestimate Eddie's accomplishments. But I don't think so at all if it is far beyond Vai.

.

Van Halen didn't invent anything because - as everyone knows - Tapping technique was invented by an Italian guitarist in the 60s (as you can see from the video). Eddy just copied it and ported it to the electric guitar

I believe this type of discussion belongs on Audiosex. But since you prefer to start it here and are discussing two great guitarists that both should be respected as "Great", as well as this subject is highly and infinitely subjective, let me throw my hat into the ring.

I think Stanley Jordan has them both beat! The video proof is below.

P.S. I respect EVH and SV both!
