King Tubbys high pass filter was known as "the big knob". He often used it to sweep the reverbs and echos in his dub mixes. In the same series of filters there was also a Low Pass unit - this is where the inspiration for LowPass Filter 1024 came from. The 1024 is a 4 pole, 24dB/Octave low pass filter with peak control, input level indicator and transistor drive to boost the signal while giving it some analog heat.

In the same series there was also a lowpass filter - both had characteristic and specific stepped frequencies. This is where the inspiration for HighPass Filter 1012 and LowPass Filter 1024 came from. The 1012 is a 12dB/octave slope highpass filter while the 1024 is 24dB/octave lowpass, both with peak control and input transistor drive to boost the signal while giving it some analog heat. The CV jacks on the back lets you smoothly modulate the cut off frequencies with control voltage. The HPLP Filter 1224 combines both the HP and LP in one unit for quick and easy usage.

Black Magic is a VSTi which can be used with any PC based VSTi capable Host such as Cubase, Sonar, Fruity Loops etc... The main ambition when developing BM was to create an instrument which could be used to generate interesting and diverse loops which could then easily be saved out to WAV, ready to import into any other application which uses loops. The second goal was to be able to be able to play the individual parts of the loop as individual elements assigned to a midi note, which allows playing rhythms in a similar manner to playing with breakbeats. Finally BM can also be used as a standard Drum Machine, so that the first 10 Notes on the keyboard can just trigger the actual drum sounds.
