Today is groundhog day. And it feels like it.

Install ONLY the BX-Solo installer first. reg it. restart. install pack. reg all. done. As written in the readme by the kind people at V.R.

I've not done a full mix with the BX console(s) but I did switch them in place of some slate VMR ssl and neve (VMR always annoyed me), and the PA stuff sounded and acted better, and also didn't have all the drawbacks of VMR and the VMR's stupid lack of functionality and having to drag trim etc in just to gain stage properly.

VMR needs to die. This style is much better with PA if you need a C-strip. I'll use them here and there as eqs/comps but still prefer other eqs/comps in general on a 'what suits the source best' basis. I'm not a massive fan of the same c-strip across the mix, even CLA etc would send out to outboard so why limit ITB to 'just' an SSL eq (not the world's nicest eq)

Also they (SSL PA plugs) are much better than waves and duende which I've also used. I think probably only softube would match the PA ones now (or maybe better? but it's console one stuff which is... lolz)

i feel that if you want that big sound from "old days " you just cannot go overboard, i mean that you can't just use everything you have, you must mix limited like if you were in a real studio having hardware limited so like having only 1 or 2 external eq's and 1 or 2 lovely comps. and mixing like it was real hardwarw. less is more. thats the only way to make huge sounds

My music that's been on (massive US) TV shows begs to differ, it makes not one bit of difference if you use 'limits' or if you use pick n mix, I didn't say I go crazy with 1000 plugs, I have my go-tos, fuse eq, arouser, relab, townhouse, true iron, black rooster pultecs/comps etc. I 'restrict' myself to these as I know them and 'mix big'.

It makes no difference if I do it my way or use an SSL C-strip on every channel, they are all just comps and eqs after all. But whatever works for you, I did my 'c-strip workflow' a few years back and got fed up of the 'one size fits all' thing which is not how actual top ITB (not CLA) mixers work (go check Tchad Blake and Scheps as 2 prominent ITB mixers of great worth - neither use a console like ITB workflow - both have their go-tos and mix and match based ENTIRELY on the track in question - I mean the vox track, snare track, drum bus or w/e not the song).

If C-strip workflow works best for you then great, it doesn't matter either way, whatever gets you through to finish the mix and encourages you get it sounding good.

FTR I don't use a ton of plugs in anyway, some tracks have nothing (maybe a hp filter if that), but I also record through expensive hardware on the way int (Neve etc) and can bounce out through that for world-class compression/eq/saturation (shelford channel etc). So for me ITB is then a case of what further needs doing on a mix basis, not 'get my entire big console sound from one plug in over all tracks'. My Mix bus consists of eqs, comps and saturators (just like Tchad and Scheps) and I also enable HEAT in PT HD 12.5 (if you're still on 10 you should upgrde asap!) and the big sound comes from there more than anything (then work backwards - top down mixing - fast results big sound).

Have fun!

BTW there's nothing at all 'limited' about CLA's studio, he may have the big SSL but nearly every channel is routed to some outboard or other (as his mix vids show). He gets it down to 48? tracks for his console, and sends out at least half of them through great gear not just the SSL. It's not going overboard, and ITB nor do I go overboard, as I said I probably have less plugs in my mix in total than CLA has on his outboard sends.

Not sure why you read my post as going mad with loads of plug-ins, it's just like your idea restricting to SSL C-Strip but in my case I choose 3 flavours of eq/comp and mix n match as some sources suit. I think c-strip workflow (ITB) appeals to those who are struggling with mixing (as I did once) as it simplifies the thinking, BUT ultimately when you are 'good enough' it ceases to be relevant, you'll use whatever you have to, or leave completely alone, as you see fit... with confidence and reason. There is no 'best way' or 'one way'. We all get the results our own way. If you're not actually on an SSL console there's very little point emulating that ITB as A. SSL isn't the greatest sound anyway - esp if you're already on cold digital tracks recorded clean through a mid level interface with built in pres and B. You don't have the hands on faders/pots etc which is part of the reason big mixers 'got lazy' (not cos it sounded better).

I have an Icon D-Command which puts all my eqs/comps at my fingers with dedicated eq/comp control knobs, and the best ITB mix workflow on earth (these controllers were the best selling for pro mixers because they were that good but they cost ~£20k new!). Combine that with an eq or comp that works with it and you can't beat it! I don't need 'c strip' to get that with mysetup, i have that feel even with arouser and Axis eq or w/e. Though note, the PA SSL console strips do work great with this controller anyway. :)

cheers

After working with this release more this week, and being blown away by some of the plug-ins... I think I can safely say this V.R drop is the #1 BEST release we've seen on here since the heady days of the 2015 Audio Utopia dream releases (ilok cracked).

I know it's 'only' AAX, and I know it's only a sort of 'work-around' more than a full-crack or w/e but nonetheless, major kudos to V.R for the best release on this site since Pro Tools 12.5 HD by AU nearly 4 years back!

clap clap clap

(I'm now using around 8 of the plugs in this release as new go-tos and mix bus enhancers, replacing my old favourites. They look great, work great and sound great).

agree. how does pt 12.5 worx out for, no ya? i'm on 12.3.1 - very stable and smooth with this bundle, i have nothing else installed on it , no instruments no other plugins, just this bundle.
absolutely amazing.... jaw is still being picked up from flooor

Runs like a charm since release for me. More stable in fact than Studio One 4 was (which would hang on bounce).

I've got plenty installed on it, and run it with an ICON D-Command (awesome), no issues at all. Use it daily.

Yeah, gotta say some of these plugs are WORTH buying (unlike many). If you can get 'em on sale/bundle deal.

I've had pretty much everything there is, from softube to slate, from waves to kush, from IK to... whatever, the handful of new go-tos in this PA bundle are giving me better results and are nicer to use and less cpu hungry than previous plugs I was using.

SPL Iron (you got to get to know it but when you do it's a killer on the mix bus)
BX Townhouse (best 'ssl' style comp around - mixbus and drums)
Black Box HG-2, cool sat
Bax Eq - beautiful on Mix and sub busses
Acme XLA3, VSM3, BX-OPTO all cool
SSL C-Strips (BX Consoles) awesome if you want that flavour (better than waves, ik, n.i and slate VMR which I A/Bd them against).

So any of the above are worth it imo. The older pure 'digital' BX plugs aren't my cup of tea but are very good. Maag eq is bit over-rated (the plug in version), but their more modern plugs are great, anything coded by Fuse/Black Rooster's Ray Dratwa (see info panes in plugs) = quality.

def groundhog day (instructions have been posted by me and others in this thread a few times).

1. Install BX-Solo *ONLY*
2. Load Pro Tools - when you see request screen - click 'activate online' (make sure PT isn't blocked in firewall while installing - afterwards is ok)
3. Enter email/pass that you created (fake) account on PA site with
4. Reg

when above seems ok...

5. quit PT
6. Run the full pack install
7. Start PT and pop up screen again - enter same info as before and reg it... ignore errors for 2 plugs... just keep going.
8. that's it - try running as admin and restarting again after if they aren't working
