Whatever music you make, and whoever you are as a music maker, there’s always more to explore in Live. See how you can go further with Live 12.

Play freely with ideas
MIDI Transformations
Create a variety of simple or complex variations to your MIDI clips: add ornaments and articulations, draw acceleration and deceleration curves, connect successive notes and chords, or simulate the strum of a guitar.

MIDI Generators
Conjure up melodies, chords and rhythms with new MIDI Generators. Give your chosen Generator custom constraints, watch it create playful and original patterns, and then turn the ideas it produces into your own.

Max for Live MIDI Tools
Max now facilitates even greater experimentation, letting you create new MIDI Transformations and Generators – either based on existing ones, or your own creations.

MIDI Editing Improvements
Arrange the order of a selection of notes by pitch, velocity or duration. Stretch, split, chop or join notes in new ways; shape the velocity of notes; transpose them into a scale; or add intervals chromatically or in key.

Keys and Scales
Set the selected clip’s scale in Live’s Control Bar to see its notes in any clip you create. Then edit the clip using scale highlighting as a guide, use the clip scale to transform and generate musical ideas, or sync the scale of MIDI devices and instruments to the clip being played. Any changes in Live will be reflected in Push, and vice versa.

Expanded probability
Assign a single probability rule to a group of notes so that the entire group of notes is played whenever the trigger is fired. Or select a chord and tell Live to randomly play one note from it whenever the probability trigger is fired.

Embrace and explore tunings
Follow your preferred tuning systems or try different ones more easily. Work outside the 12-tone equal temperament system, and access tunings with Live’s devices as well as any MPE-capable plugin.

Surprise yourself with the sounds you create
Meld
A bi-timbral, MPE-capable instrument designed for deep sound shaping that lets you create a wide array of textural and experimental tones with its two easy-to-use macro oscillators.

Granulator III
The latest iteration of Robert Henke’s granular instrument now has MPE capability, giving you expressive control over parameters like note bend, vibrato and glissando. Plus, you can now capture audio in real time and start manipulating it immediately.

Roar
Create everything from subtle and precise mastering-grade warmth to wild and unpredictable sound degradation with Live’s new coloring and saturation effect. Roar’s three saturation stages can be used in series, parallel, or even in mid/side and multiband configurations – and it comes equipped with a feedback generator and an extensive modulation matrix.

New Modulation Behavior
Modulation destinations are no longer taken over by the modulation source. This means you can still adjust the parameter being modulated, even after assigning an LFO or other modulation source to it, opening up faster workflows, more possibilities for performance and continuous real-time control of parameters.

New Packs
Lost and Found – A collection of sounds fashioned from unusual materials, percussive trinkets, unique foley recordings and expressive objects to infuse your productions with character and authenticity. Dig deep and create layers of decorative, expressive instruments, playful Drum Racks and rich sound effects.

Performance Pack – A set of innovative devices from Iftah that push the boundaries of performing with Live. Capture snapshots of your sets and deploy them later, control multiple parameters with layered macros and curves, extend performances with looping in Arrangement View and pre-arrange the structure of a performance before you have even recorded it.

Trap Drums – Southern hip hop pioneer Sound Oracle puts the power of his in-demand trap beats in your hands with a Pack of 20 crisp, futuristic Kits and Clips created especially for Live 12 and loaded with MPE functionality.

Golden Era Hip Hop Drums – Explore the gritty drums of old-school hip hop with the new beat-focused Pack from heavyweight producer Sound Oracle. Get your hands on warm, authentic-sounding Kits with built-in effects and enhanced MPE functionality, created especially for Live 12.

Work more intuitively
Stack Live’s Detail Views
View your devices and the Clip Editor or automation at the same time – so you can work without the distraction of switching between views.

View styling
Live 12’s cleaner, more minimal look removes visual complexity and keeps the focus on your music.

Mixer in Arrangement
Live’s Mixer, previously available only in Session View, can now be used in Arrangement View. Toggle it on or off with Mixer View Control located in the bottom right corner or via the View menu, and configure it independently of the Arrangement Mixer.

Mixer improvements
Live’s Mixer also comes with visual improvements that make it more accurate for detailed mixing decisions, and easier to read and control.

Browser Tagging and Filtered Searches
Search for your sounds in the Browser without the constraints of Live's built-in categorization. That means when you search for bass sounds, you'll see all the bass sounds in your Ableton library, whether they're samples or instrument presets.

Live 12's sound content is also tagged using a new system that acts as a more flexible alternative or addition to Collections in the sidebar. All sounds – including Packs – now come with sensible labels to make them easier to discover and find later – but if you need more detail, or just want to use your own method of labeling, you can also add your own.

Sound Similarity Search
Start with a sample and tell Live’s browser to find comparable sounds and instrument presets, with the help of machine learning algorithms

Drum Rack swapping — Swap all the samples in your Drum Rack for similar ones to quickly try out new percussive textures – like a drum machine with seemingly-infinite kits

Browser History
Retrace your steps, and see and hear the sounds or presets you've previously searched for — Live's Browser now lets you backtrack through your browsing history as you would with a web browser.

Accessibility and navigation improvements
Screen Reader Support – Visually impaired musicians now have access to core workflows in Live using Screen Readers or other assistive technology.

New Keyboard Shortcuts – Use new keyboard shortcuts to navigate to nearly every part of Live.

New Themes
Choose new themes and adjust them with cool, neutral or warm tones and even a high contrast mode.

As a celebration of version 12,
we made new Witches' Magic
which does not modify any original
binaries. The magic will work until
Ableton makes significant change to
their protection. You won't need to wait
our updates or seek other cracks :)

Hi Guys, I need some advice. First installation worked great until next day restart. Ableton wanted me to license again. user data and automatic updates are off. Program is Firewall blocked. 2nd time installation worked again, i didnt need to licence this time? After reading comments in the beta versions Ive renamed the installhelper.exe to *.old ..but the installhelper.exe always apears again next to the old and old2. Is there anything else what i can do to stop any comunication?

Hi Guys

For Re-Authorization error - here's a workaround that worked for me.

Win automatically deletes/quarantines "vcruntime140_1.dll" (without which Abl wont open)

So go to "Anti V settings/Protection History --> open "Threat quarantined" --> look for the one with "vcruntime140_1.dll" --> Click "Action/Restore"

Hope this helps

Hi, thanks that's correct, I personally had already figured that tip out, it works, but have you figured out how to restore the vcruntime140_1.dll file permanently please?

Thanks again

Peace!

I have massive bugs with mapping and knobs. Moving knobs in a rack doesn't move knob in plugin and when accessing knobs from third party plugins through Lifes UI they jump values and cant be moved properly.. Same anyone? Is this an Ableton bug or just problem with this release?

Edit: this is what I tried, so far its worked.

This is how to block MS Windows Defender to ignore : vcruntime140_1.dl

C:\ProgramData\Ableton\Live 12 Suite\Program\ vcruntime140_1.dl

How do I get Windows Defender to ignore a file?
Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection. Under Virus & threat protection settings, select Manage settings, and then under Exclusions, select Add or remove exclusions. Select Add an exclusion, and then select from files, folders, file types, or process.

Why are there so many zipped folders inside the zipped folders? do I need to unpack all of them? also I'm getting a error when trying to run the keygen, I do have the vcruntime file copied into the ableton folder. Thanks for helping.

Does anyone have tips on how to eliminate or reduce GUI lag in Ableton?

Hey everyone, just downloaded and things seem to work meld and all.

THE KEYGEN IS GETTING QUARANTINED BY YOUR WINDOWS DEFENDER. You have to allow BOTH the keygen and the vcruntime file. There were others i had to allow through as well before the keygen would start.

1. Extract the rars, this makes 1 folder, inside of it you'll find another archive.
2. Install ableton using the installer
3. move the vcruntime file to the install folder
4. block ableton in windows firewall inbound and outbound rules
5. start ableton, run the keygen, paste your hardware code after selecting offline auth.
7. Take the generated auth file and put it into the ableton auth window, done.

Thanks this worked for me.

Windows defender will quarantine each instance of the vcruntime.dll file. So if you restore the .dll in the R2R original download folder and copy it to the ableton executable directory, you'll have to restore it there too.

It seems like windows defender takes a moment to remove the file from the directory, but it will stop the ableton executable from using that file immediately. I believe this is what may be causing the executable to crash when you copy the vcruntime.dll back into the executable directory and try to run it.

I assume the file may be requarantined each time windows does an update too. You could always disable windows defender.

I'm sure a very simple question, but to upgrade to the lastest version do I download the latest demo or does anyone have a direct link? Then I just use the same magic for the new version...

The included "vcruntime140_1.dll" with keygen gives Malwarebytes AI Malware Warning.

I just updated from 12.0.0 to 12.0.5. The update took place in stages.
12.0.1
12.0.2
12.0.5 (latest version)

I don't know why, instead of updating directly to the latest version, the update was done step by step.

If the update does not start when you turn on automatic updating, Ableton may not have internet access. Examine your ''hosts'' file. Or look at inbound and outbound rules through the firewall. When I started the update, Windows Defender detected "vcruntime140_1.dll" as a virus and quarantined it. Make sure Windows Defender has not quarantined ''vcruntime140_1.dll''.

Everything works for me. (12.0.5)

Thank you very much R2R.

Just wondering, while initially it sounds fantastic we can now use auto-update, is it wise in regards to 3rd party VST's running in Live?

In my dual-boot setup I never go online with my go-to DAW environment because of this and any other risks like virusses and such but does anyone know how this new magic dust works on a technical level? Does leaving auto-update on statistically increase the chance a plugin calls home through it and would it as such not be wise to only manually ' auto-update' when a new release is out? Or does even this emporary moment bring risks with it in regards to other software?

And if so, what is the benefit from such magic dust in that case then? And wider, is there a benefit between this R2R and Audiowarez version in terms of stability, speed or resource usage (just an honest question).

Big kudos to both releasegroups btw. Fantastic! Just need some extra info on the intricacies of both workings.

Enabling auto-update within Ableton has nothing to do with 3rd party VST's ability to call home. They each run independently of one another. It's a bit like updating your OS, it has nothing to do with updating your Apps. They each run their own separate update processes.

For example, if you enable Ableton's ability to auto-update, while blocking the domains your VSTs try to contact, then those VSTs would not be able to call home. (Good).

And vice-versa, if you disabled Ableton's ability to auto-update, while not blocking the domains your VSTs try to contact, those VST's would still be able to call home. (Bad).

If you want to be completely paranoid and maintain your DAW on an off-line computer, then just stick with the Audionews versions that you can copy over using USB stick or the like, and install each update manually.

But honestly, I've had auto-update on the R2R release since v12.0.1 and it has seamlessly updated to 12.0.2 and now 12.0.5 without issue. Any VSTs that require domain blocking in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts are not impacted.

As far as comparing the R2R version to the Audiowarez version, I wouldn't know since I only run the R2R version and have not had any reason to use the other. R2R release has been stable and performant with cpu/memory... running fine on a Windows 11 Laptop.

Just remember with the R2R version, you have to allow "vcruntime140_1.dll" if using Microsoft Defender. Otherwise, it will detect it as a "HackTool:Win32/Keygen" and quarantine it (stopping it from being run), which prohibits you from getting the Ableton updates.

You're right ofcourse about 3rd party plugins. I don't know where my head was when I wrote that🙄. I suppose I've for so long worked with a self build dual-boot PC where the DAW OS doesnt automatically connect to the Internet I mixed things and feelings up. Thanks for answering and correcting me.

While in the past I never ever used my DAW OS to go online, over time I've become a little more relaxed about it and I do go online to authorise legit bought software or Google a Youtube video or so but by default I don't want to put my DAW environment at any risk so I think this is where my thinking got mixed up as 'auto-update'' implies at the very least an intermittent open connection to the Web and this is something I personally don't want to risk. I suppose I could still use R2R's version to manually update once I know a new release is available and only then connect and run auto-update.

I guess it's a bit surprising to me by reading all comments I deduct most people that use some warez have their computers online all the time whereas I assumed most didn't. I understand you can block apps and use a good firewall, antivirus or Virtual Box product but still to me it feels like too big a risk given the massive infrastructure of programs, samples and projects that are spread over multiple SSD 's in my DAW environment.
But hey, that's just me and my cautioness (I wouldn't call it paranoia😉).

In any case I'm getting a bit off-topic. Once again hats off to both releasegroups and yes, R2R is the one most represented on my system. I'll give their version a go in the way I just described and will see how stable it is.

PS. I also realise asking about the performance and/or stability of both releases is a bit nonsense as so much depends on one's individual system. I know R2R sometimes cracks VST'S (especially the iLOK ones) that start faster and run smoother than the legit original version of it so I suppose that's where my question stems from. Anyway.. Message to self: "A little less conversation a little more action "😉. Thanks again!
