Private will most certainly bring changes to a variety of key areas. The proof: practically every other good site is private and there are no issues like we have here. The proof is in the pudding.

The original people that shared outside of that private scene circle were what we call: traitors. They took it upon themselves to go against the wishes of the very teams that released that software in the first place thereby creating this hole that we now find ourselves in. This hole is a huge security breach, facilitates the spread of these scum para-sites (see what I did there), causes much greater damage to developers and creates a whole host of behavioral problems. It's sickening to see in an nfo the team having to give a middle finger to those that leak their work. It's only a testament to our failure as human beings. We're not content to just have the things we want and respect the trust that has been extended to us. We also have to spit in the face of those that have extended that trust hiding like rats under the cover of anonymity. It is not sharing that drives this but ego. The thought that I know better what to do with that software. People want to walk in like: look what I've got. Big man. It was the perfect conditions for the attention seeking whores.

I have a lot of nice internal stuff that crosses my path and do you know who I have shared it with? Nobody because it's not my decision to make. I was entrusted with it and it is my duty to keep it for myself alone. I gave my word and somewhere that still means something. Think about sharing in the real world. Do you often find yourself sharing software you've bought with jerks? I know I don't. Ignoring people doesn't work because unfortunately you underestimate the amount of douchebags out there. I spend more on dealing with this than practically anything else I do and that's scary. I actually have a solution to the things leaking out problem. There are people that we know we can trust, those we know we can't and those we're not too sure about. I have a solution for creating a trusted network of people thereby solving this problem and I've already mentioned it to a few people. Guarantee you it would bring accountability to the whole process.

Thanks a lot for your long explanation Cat, i agree with you in everything ... I know what you mean when you say «I was entrusted with it and it is my duty to keep it for myself alone» because many times in my life people have put their trust in me sharing things that i was asked not to share with others (yes, also from some AudioZ users) ... And yes, i have shared things i bought myself with jerks too (sometimes consciously, sometimes unconsciously) ... And with regard to the so called traitors, think that they will always be there, because as you rightly said «it's only a testament to our failure as human beings» ... Let's not to lose the hope that this could change some time though

With regard to this site, let me say that whatever you decide to do with it will be OK for me
As Kut said above «i have way too many plugins» and not so much time to deal with all of them.

Exactly and trust is important to have with people in this setting in particular. You know me, I'm down to share but I'd prefer to do it in a trusted setting with other people that know how to act and can handle being part of something like this. People take the scene as a never-ending pasta dish they can just gluttonously chomp on at the trough or exploit whenever it's convenient to make a quick buck. It really amazes me that human beings manage to always fuck everything up.

I'm afraid that if changes aren't implemented (and I don't just mean this site) we will not survive and this will not be preserved for future generations because the problems are really far-reaching and they run the full gamut of issues from security to developer impact and behavioral problems. The aforementioned issues combined with a changing legal landscape will be a real challenge for the future of the scene. I'm sure they feel in a sense responsible for even the unintended consequences of sharing with the public such as the proliferation of money grubbing sites whose sole purpose is to steal from others to profit on it. There are sites where they're even using links from here, it's sickening to me. And it hurts to know that we created them. So now it's time to set things right. This just isn't a sustainable future proof system, I see it every day here and I think we can begin to change that. Anyway It was my pleasure, I think it's good to be open about the very real issues we all face because it concerns all of us.
