Guys, haven't posted for centuries, but i'm just too happy:
besides the 30gb it requires, which means more material, more samples, higher quality, there is something we should all rejoice ... just check the specs list....
... can't you see something 'strange', on that list ?

'Resizable user interface'

What does this mean ?
Well, because groove agent 4 shared the same layout, buttons, sliders, icons, menus, fonts, colors... as cubase 8, 9, 9.5. .. the same 'mainframe',

... if we are lucky, this could mean steinberg have created a commun 'structure', for the next generation of plug-ins, apps, interfaces, design, etc, that has been used to create groove agent 5.... and maybe, maybe, cubase 10 will ALSO have a full vector-based interface.

To most users, a full resizable interface alone would be a valid reason to upgrade to cubase 10.

Hope you guys can install and use this release, and have lots of fun.

Yes the interface IS resizable. But most of this ablility doesn't make much sense to me. Esp. in the main interface this only leads to boxes and options moving further away from each other. (reminds me on the expansion of the universe, where every star is moving away from each other)
The controls themselves don't change in size. What's the advantage? And even this does NOT work in the VST2 plugin.

There are some windows, where resizing is of some use, but mainly the Steinbergs did not (yet) make a good job on it. I don't think the UI is vector based, it seems more to be hardcoded, as the buttons remain same size whe resizing.
There was the info that VST2 couldn't be resized due to VST2 definition inherent restrictions. That this isn't true, we were shown by many 3rd party VST vendors. But it may make perfect sense to Steinberg not to support VST2 as well as VST3 as they want to abandon VST2. But, no I don't like that behavior.

I am curious if anyone has compared this to EzDrummer or Superior Drummer. I use EZ then go to Sup Drum. I have cubase pro as I just broke down and bought it, since I had ProTools and STone. I mostly use Stone for tracking. So am curious if I have a legit copy of Cubase and Groove Agent SE, is this worth it?

I was wondering the very same thing: How does this compare to Superior Drummer? What can it do that SD can't do?

Yeah, it's pretty easy to install alongside both, no ill effects. Worth doing. I don't think GA SE even appears on the seL, just part of Cubase Pro. Just make sure you install the trial license to the seL, not USB.

It's not rly competition for Superior Drummer et al. You can use GA with any other drum VSTi, assuming it lets you (ie) GM map? It worked w/ BFD, for me. The sounds are ok, I'd rec installing licenses for all the Simon Phillips stuff at the same time. Groove Agent is more like a sort of advanced metronome. It's clever, sorta bridges the gap between metronome & real drummer. The idea is that you get to "direct" MIDI grooves, in a similar kinda way to Stylus RMX remixes loops. You control like the intensity (dynamics) and the complexity (how "full" each bar is with stuff) with like touch map X/Y, very intuitive, very effective. You can control different other bits (how often fills happen, whether intro / main / end etcs) and (sometimes) whether full or half speed. It's cool! Handy to have if you feel drum programming is a total chore, you get to kinda "music" it up a bit.

Once you install the library do you need to keep the installs id like to install to an external and if i ever reformat just use that for back up
  Member 5.11.2018 53

Easiest way is to download the Steinberg Library Manager you can move libraries freely with it and see where each one is located at. Also assign a default location. You can have it set up to move all libraries automatically to the default location. It also informs you if you have any duplicate files and gives you the option to batch delete them. Keep in mind Steinberg's folder structure. The bulk of the libraries of its instruments is made up of "Steinberg VST Sound Archive" files. These go inside of a folder aptly named "VST SOUND" which itself is inside Steinberg/Content Folder. You should grab all VST Sound content from every instrument and move it there without their folders. This way you only have one Content folder with all your sounds.

Default location for VST sounds is (ie) C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Content\VST Sound

Just make a junction here, install where you like? I mean, you can kinda pick and choose w/ sample data (.vstsound) so if you wanna keep (ie) just the "standard" files and ditch the ECO ones, it's easy enough. Or vice versa. Pretty flexible.

Thanks for the release.

Why can't I see dialog boxes? Like it's missing text options when i click on a pad or what ever submenu. Is this a Windows 10 thing?

Could be memory problem, I notice when the preload thing gets full it doesn't let you click on some elements. Maybe increase buffers? You might not have got the warning popup...

What is the installation process for this release?
  Resident 1.07.2015 4 649

Download GA5 from links above / Steinberg Download Assistant.

Install soft eLicenser. (6.11.3.1240 - prolly installed already?)

Request GA5 trial license from Steinberg (here) You need to make a Steinberg acct if you don't have one.

Insert demo license (serial) from email you get. MAKE SURE TO SOFT eLICENSER! (you need to turn off antitrial w/ antitrial switch if you have it running already when installing anything in this / previous steps)

Run antitrial 5. (turn on antitrial again w/ antitrial switch before doing this, if you turned it off before) If you can't "switch", close Protected Object Server.exe from task manager.

Profit?

@famouslut Some of these guys are to lazy to read the posts and find out how to go about installing products and any problems that may exist. The Anti-Trial MUST, SHALL, HAS TO BE be off. That is not an option. Unless you want complications.

I get a virus warning from Windows Defender in Windows 8.1, and it won't install the Antitrial properly ('eLicenser Antitrial beta-5.exe' in the 'Groove Agent 5' directory. The error message (most of which is in Russian, so I can' t type that in) says "C:\Users\BILLGA~1\AppData\Local\Temp\is-QB4[4.tmp\SYNS0POS.exe" CreateProcess [something in Russian] Operation did not complete successfully becasue the file contains a virus or potentially unwanted software." So is SYNS0POS.exe okay or not, and how do I install it?
When I go to the eLicenser Control Center, I get a popup window that says "eLicenser Control - Error. Application 'LCC2' has caused the following error: DCOM connection to program 'Synsopos.exe' failed. Error:Unspecified error."
Do I have to turn off Windows Malware Defender before installing the Antitrial then? (And the Antitrial installer is all in Russian - is that correct?)
Also, the Antitrial installer changed my computer clock to 2040, so all websites' https certificates said they were expired and were invalid, and also it turned off my network connection and I had to restart it to get back onto the internet...

Prolly add an exclusion for antitrial & trial switch files in Defender? Sounds like it half-finished doing its job, which is why you were stuck @ 2040. (It has some Ukrainian txt in it and the file is ok to use AFAIK. =)

Try to add GA5 to SeL @VectorVST88, instead of USB? Should work that way? Maybe ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks for you help! I went into Windows Defender, clicked the 'Settings' tab, then unticked 'Turn on real-time protection', and that let me install the Antitrial okay. However, after successfully running Groove Agent 5 in FL Studio, I turned the real-time protection back on, and some Windows Defender popups appeared, saying they were removing malware, and then when I tried to load Halion, it said that SYNS0POS.exe was missing - I presume Windows Defender just deleted it! I will try to find when SYNS0POS.exe is installed and add that to the excluded files list.
Edit: SYNS0POS.exe is in C:\Program Files (x86)\eLicenser, so I just excluded the whole directory in Windows Defender's Settings tab, and it's worked perfectly, (after reinstalling Antitrial) now I have Groove Agent 5! Many thanks!

Used all my trials as a legit Cubase 9 Pro user so can't use this. Lost Iconica after thirty days so that didn't work for me either.

Can this be used like Jamstix sending only the midi to another VSTi, without using the Groove Agent samples/sounds, using SD3 or similar???

This sounds like it may speed up the long process of hand-programming everything...So can it be used in that way, or does it work best using it's own sounds???
  Resident 1.07.2015 4 649
+647
Yeah, it can be used like that (Jamstix.) I did exactly that w/ BFD 3. Just make sure you have both set to GM & GA as input. Arguably better sounds maybe? Well, certainly different!

But I think that some of the grooves data is located in the .vstsound files. Difficult to know which ones. But prolly means the little files w/ "preset" in their names. I can't be sure. I guess you can try to move the big files out of the VSTsound folder, and see if you lose the grooves data? Hopefully not! But anyway, it's not a massive amount, anyway, and you can prolly keep just the "eco" stuff which is only about 10G...

Thanks man, I'm always looking for ways to make drum samples/vsti's sound more realistic...I've jumped through hoops for years doing this, so I'll probably give this a shot too...

One thing I wish all the vsti's had is full, 100% compatibility with the midi mapping to be able to use different vsti's with one another...I know there are things that can do most of the work, but it's never fully 100%...Most of what I'm talking about refers to the hi-hat, & cymbals (to a lesser degree), the shells usually aren't much of a problem...Sorry for the off-topic rant...lol

I suppose I'll just give this a spin & see what happens...

Thanks again...
