Acustica Audio Ocean 2023-R2R screenshot
Team R2R | 2024.12.21 | 79.7 MB
Ocean is the new multi-band processing tool, presented as a single Acqua plugin available in VST, VST3, AAX, and AU formats in Core 19 based on our 'Hyper' technology encompassing a remarkable assortment of Acustica's most acclaimed emulations based on top-tier hardware units.

Multiband processing is a set of techniques renowned for its power and effectiveness, but it can be a challenging task to configure and manage successfully. There are numerous potential pitfalls to watch out for when using these techniques, making them all the more crucial to approach it with caution and attentiveness. However, our Ocean plugin is designed to address these complexities by providing an intuitive and powerful solution.

What you get
Ocean presents itself as a unique plugin with a visually captivating 'hybrid' interface that seamlessly blends the best features of 2D and 3D, delivering a truly immersive user experience. It comes in a β€œStandard” version and an alternative β€œZL*” version, which operates at *zero latency and is thus suitable for use when tracking, at the cost of extra processing resources.

Key features
Multi-band processing.
Simplified workflow.
Hyper engine.
Acustica's most acclaimed emulations included.
Superior transient emphasis thanks to the expander.
Perfectly balanced output signal.
Numeric Input/Display for main controls.
Several listening mode options (Ξ”, LR, M, S).
Over 70 presets.
Up to 4x oversampling.
Resizable GUI*

Claretta says,

Library is completely decrypted, decompressed, DRM related bloat removed, and built to the clean one.

Apart from the protection, Ocean has one of the worst resource waste. 120 of N2V files have DLL file for Win and Mac. This DLL is used to process some DSP that core plugin does not have. Why doesn't he put that DLL in common place instead of injecting to every single N2V, you may wonder. You are normal.

"A Clipper is actually a distortion generator or saturator"

Pumpkin Pro actually saturator like MS Clipper

So whatddya think Stevie? Does this one get the official Stevie-Dude stamp of approval ?

The entire first half of the manual reads like a Gio auto-biography.

This one doesn't look antiquated like the previous thrown together looking stuff.

This thing does have a sound, it's good, but too much CPU usage, just stick to Fabfilter Pro-MB or DMG Multiplicity is all im saying.

I have actually posted a thread about this matter long time ago in AS, about what do you want from your MB compressor. Is it transparency or color. Back then it was only Softube Drawmer being the MB comp with color that I use which can be nice sometimes but 95% of the time, better off with transparency. That Dynamic Phase in Pro-MB is unbeatable for now IMO.

I gotta say this one seems much better put together from a user interface standpoint than the previous stuff. All the controls seem to operate OK and they do what they are labeled to do. As far as CPU bashing, this one seemed considerably less impactful in that category than many of the previous acustica offerings. However, CPU is still being pushed more than "regular" plugins on the whole. That is to say you wont get as many Oceans running cleanly in a single session as you could FabFilter Pro-MB's for example.

Again ya'll know the dead giveaway this is an acustica product by the way it un-cloaks. In one swoop of the un-archiver you go from a demure 79MB on disc to a whopping ~1.3 GIGABYTE foot print. This is AFTER our witches magic has been applied. I shudder to think what the space allotment was before the magic happened.

Well, traditionally, clipping results in at least a bit of a flat top on an originally curved-top waveform, however that is achieved.
I'm not even sure what might be a clipper these days, but if it doesn't to some degree flatten the top of the waveform, the name "clipper" is a poor choice.

I think a clipper is still doing what a clipper does, like you said flattening the waveform peak that get past a certain threshold, which technically known as hard clip. It's straight forward, this is 100% digital domain territory.

What people being interested in today is more to the soft-clip processing where a knee plus separate +ve and -ve side (of a waveform) manipulation are introduced to the reaction point of the threshold which creates fancy dynamic curve that result in slashing down the peak uniquely or gradually before the peak crossed the threshold, separately for either end of the polarity of the waveform. This behavior mimic how an analog gear clips the signal (when pushed beyond their ideal operating level) which many claimed to be "desirable" or "pleasurable" and some other weird words to describe the sound, assuming it is tuned properly.

Things get more fancy with the introduction of transient splitting algo to the clipping processing where user can choose whether to soft clip either/both the transient or/and sustain portion of the sound like one in Acustica Audio JAM. Pre and Post EQ too so user get total control what is getting clipped and what is not, and enjoy the artifact (distortion/saturation) that comes with it. As if that isn't enough, they added physically sampled sample-accurate curves from hardware pieces that are famous for that type of manipulation in the studios.

While I agree the name "clipper" is a poor choice and we could use a more accurate term, technically the main core processing is still clipping, it's just the way the signal is clipped can be heavily manipulated. Think of Tone Project Unisum that comes with shit tons of controls, at the end of the day the main processing is just compression but user can manipulate the sidechain detector and signal to their hearts content to fine tune how the signal is compressed.

I completely forgot to put that one in the Request Zone but I wanted to try it so much. Teal would also be insane but I'm already super happy with this one as a Christmas gift. Thx R2R. Really appreciated.

Wishing you a wonderful Holiday period to you and your loved ones.

quote by axxexGiancarlo lives in a world of his own called β€œthe amazing world of Giancarlo and his messy plugins”. When SOME good ideas get messed up by the craze for protection at all costs.
Merry pizza Xmas to Giancarlos.

I think the group of cultist that goes behind him make it worst. It look like a bunch of illuminated coocoo leaded by an even more unrelatable character.

I just tested it and it's really good, I thought it would be hard and it was super fast, the result too. Unfortunately it's a high CPU consumption. Thanks R2R, keep up the A.A. releases please.

I've never used Acustica Audio. I struggle to comprehend how a dev that is known for bad practices simultaneously creates plugins that everyone raves about

It's kinda like... you're into hotrods, and there is a car maker who is a total prick that no one really likes but at the same time even though his cars are built kinda sus and he fucks over his clientele as well as his business partners.... the cars he makes ARE really fast and flashy. That's my analogy for acustica. That being said I really only fuck with nebula, and ash. I feel like nebula offerings are better except for a few things nebula can't do as well, mostly because acustica has abandoned it basically. Anyway, Giancarlo sucks.

Whats the issue ?

If its cpu related, I suggest you check out AudioGridder.

I don't think it's worth sacrificing my CPU with plugins that do the same thing as others or worse than others.

Music industry is highly prone to the placebo effect.
Plugins with high CPU usage and analog-style GUIs are often perceived as sounding better, even if there's no objective audio quality improvement.

Reminds me of YandereDev's coding.

I mean, this sounds great and all, but this is borderline unusable with a CPU usage that high.
Can't even master properly without audio dropouts and I am using a 7900X.
It's a damn shame, as acustica has some real good sounding plugins, but they are very buggy and CPU intensive.
  Resident 17.02.2014 10 1093

But are they flawed because the cracks are based on demo versions which are notoriously ultra buggy? or because even the official versions purchased are full of bugs? I'm trying to understand the source of the complaints about their bugs...

the demo is the exact same code with a "time limit" and maybe will not include 48khz vectors. The code is the same. Why would a company provide a buggy demo code if they want you to test and buy the software?

You clearly don't know, but you answer like you do.
The demo versions of Giancarlo weren't as updated as the versions you download after paying for them.
So, in addition to the fact that they often don't contain all the sampling frequencies, they have bugs that aren't in the commercial versions.

I'm on a 9700X and I use it wrapped in AudioGridder with many other AA plugins all in separate instances of AudioGridder. I'm not coming close to max out my CPU. It's a free software which help distribute the workload on your cores which goes way past the capacity of your DAW. For AA plugins its really a life saver because otherwise, I'd agree that those plugins are unusable as is. The CPU hit in a DAW is just insane. I think it's worth a shot to see if it fit your workflow, especially because your 7900X should be able to manage more workload then my 9700X
