Pulsar Audio Pulsar W495 v1.0.6-R2R screenshot
Team R2R | 15 Sep 2023 | 21.2MB
An accurate emulation of the Neumann w495 3-band EQ

Neumann w495 EQ’s were used to master 90% of the vinyl records manufactured from the 1970s to the 1990s. But even after this golden age, many mastering engineers still love this EQ. Why? Because the w495 has wide equalization curves that can be pushed to ridiculous levels while remaining musical. The w495 is an easy-to-use tone shaper for individual tracks. But It can also enhance presence and depth of an entire mix.

But we’ve taken Pulsar W495 even further, adding all the key features you would expect from a modern EQ plugin, including visual curve editing for a fast workflow. From channel EQ to mastering EQ, Pulsar w495 is an easy-to-use powerful tone shaper, faithfully emulated from an iconic 3 band EQ.

* No iLok driver installation is required to run.

* Our release loads faster and uses less RAM than original.

* Periodical iLok check is bypassed. Performance is stabler than original version.

Nice find on that information, but it's absurd to have to have an additional .exe to cover for poor scripting. Many other companies which use far more complex GUIs have options in their settings to direct the plugin to use either OpenGL, Native, etc. rendering, and even when not using the optimal rendering choice, no other plugins that I've seen get as squirrely as Pulsar's, even ones with real-time graphs and/or readouts.

i agree never have seen something like that . Also they havent even at least upload the renderer for their customers to be able to run the plugin !!!

Funny enough the graphics work for me on an old 3rd generation Intel i5 with built in Intel graphics chip. Usually my machine is the first to go on strike when fancy hardware-accelerated graphics stuff is being used by the developer.

As a big fan of Win7 (and a now begrudging & constantly ph*kk!ng frustrated Win10 user,) congrats on catching a win by being behind the times!!
Seriously, it's a win—Pulsar plugins have never behaved correctly for me on any PC, despite the OS, processor, etc., so I'll be paying you a visit soon so as to study this majick machine of yours. )

All their other pluggies ran immediately fine here on my WiN7 machine.

Not so much here. I first had issue with Smasher when it dropped, and that was on multiple Win7 machines, with no change when they updated the plugih. From there I tried more of their plugins as they came out, but all of them had similar GUI glitches (though they were all similar, the most radical one had the entire GUI blacked out... though, you could guess where the knobs were and they still kinda-sorta worked. ) I admittedly haven't even tried a couple of the newest Pulsar plugins, namely the 8200, but as far as GML-style EQs, I'm pretty ghatdam happy with Brainworx' AMEK EQ 200/250... and, do I really *need to add Pulsar to my bloated list of plugins that I've been slowly trying to whittle down for the past year now?

... sounds even worse than pure digital EQs (I compared it to Kirchhoff and EQuilibrium).

Interesting... though I'm not sure exactly what you mean, as some would claim that, since all analogue modeled EQs are imprecise in nature, they all sound "worse" than their digital counterparts. Do you mean it sounds more sterile? (Also, as a shameless fan of DMG Audio, I could argue from the blind stance of a sycophant that *everything sounds worse than EQuilibrium. )

In the 1.0.6 post I wrote that both sound more open and punchy, which I find simply better.

This

OTOH is also true. ;-)

Has anyone found a workaround for pulsar AAX plugins yet? It seems the video renderer selector thingy doesn't patch the AAX's only the VST's.
