however, can someone explain to me why on earth softube made this when we have FabFilter Q3? im really curious... i cant see a situation where id pick any other EQ for what they advertise this thing to do

Mmm....
- Because they don't know about FabFilter Q3 ?
- Because they pretend they don't know about FabFilter Q3 ?
- Because it's lighter on CPU than the EQ1 and can be used in mixes ?
- Because not so many people buy their EQ1 ?
- ... even before it appeared in the hands of R2R ?
- Because they wanted / thought they needed to be " present " at this year's virtual NAMM Show, so they needed a new product ? ( It was presented a few hours ago at this moment of writing. )
- This version is free for EQ1 owners ( and Complete Collection owners ).
- Because so many complex things that we can't even imagine...

The Weiss sound. It has a flavour. I love the Q3 and use it every day but it is quite clinical and transparent. This is great for certain things. The Weiss has a sound to it. Even though it is supposed to be transparent it still adds a flavour. I haven't checked the price but maybe it's cheaper than the other Weiss EQ1, so maybe Softube is hoping to catch the lower-end price market. Who knows, either way, I agree, I would always reach for Q3 if I need this type of EQ. I am not a massive fan of the Weiss sound and I have used the hardware alot.

If you think the over-rated Pro Q (which is ONLY great cos of the cool GUI) sounds as good as this Weiss eq then you probably shouldn't be mixing.

Pro Q took a stock algorithm with zero finesse or experience and focused entirely on making a 'usable' EQ with a very slick GUI for workflow... fine, but it doesn't actually sound that great and in fact is quite harmful to your mix.

DO ANY test you like, tweak both to taste.. and listen. Pro Q is cheap sounding, blurry and introduces a ton of damage to source (like any cheap DAW eq). Weiss EQ1 and EQ MP respect the sound perfectly, they make a sound sound like it was tracked that way, not EQ'd.

So many noobs thinking Pro Q is the be all end all to EQ just cos they have used it for years, Weiss and Maat sound much much better, it's not even close.

LOVE these weiss EQs and I prefer the GUI on the Weiss also, far cleaner and just as quick once you get used to it.

THIS is not just marketing, it's fact. Listen to it. It's written for a reason. It's exactly what sets the Weiss apart from the Pro Qs and Stock DAW EQs of this world. Use Weiss instead of Pro Q and compare mixes, over a full mix it'll really show the clarity and depth of the weiss vs the transient smearing, mud and phase issues of the Pro Q (even in natural phase mode the Weiss MP sounds much better and has lower - no? latency).
