I feel you, but you actually don't EVER use ANY Waves plugins anymore? No Ultra or MultiMaximizers? No H-Delay? No API eq's? No SSL compressors or channel strips? No Scheps Omni Channel? Reel ADT? Vocal or Bass Rider?

I mean, there are plenty of other high quality plugin developers these days to choose from so I get it. Waves was simply the FIRST plugin company that I "met" when I started doing computer music production back in 1992 or 1993 so I guess I have some issues of nostalgia, loyalty, comfortability, and mastery associated with good ol' Waves Audio. There CERTAINLY aren't any Waves plugins that I absolutely MUST have to produce a song.
Learn how to make tight, radio-ready mixes with the STOCK plugins in your DAW. After that, THEN you can horde out!

I am currently in the process of setting up, testing software using Manjaro Linux (Arch).
So far, Reaper 5 & Bitwig Studio 3 are working very well.

Was thinking about trying to use current Windows programs thru WINE but this could be more trouble than it is worth.

Bitwig has come a long way so, I just may buy a license & say goodbye Windows all together. Tired of wasting time setting up, tweaking Windows 10 & hoping it remains stable.

There are some Waves plugins that are still worth using, like MaxxBass and RBass, yes. I also like RComp a lot. It's my go to compressor.

JUST WHEN I ALREADY INSTALL THE P2P VERSION , I must accept that the P2P installation process was very difficult, since it requested certain requirements, which were not in the instructions, such as opening, in fully managed mode, (I mean activating via command , Have PRE installed all the visual basic, ETC ETC, AND CLEAR CACHE, TO BE ABLE TO FOLLOW THE NORMAL INSTALLATION, AND FOR THAT I HAD TO "FAIL" 3 TIMES TO UNDERSTAND HOW TO FIX SUCH INSTALLATION FAILURE. Thanks R2R anyway, although I already have the Waves complete installed, it is great that they are still active friend, really, they are and will always be the best.

That kind problems generally happens cause of VPN, proxy, debrid, premium generator sites. If you directly downloaded from UL then your disk might have problem.

Thanks for the upload as always.

It's interesting how the Default installation path for VST3 64bit is in x86 directory.

Do you guys recommend changing it to x64 directory?

Running 64bit OS, if that needed to be reminded.


Edit: If you had previous versions installed in x64, stay consistent and install the new version in x64 folder.

Not good at all! I still have previous R2R version installed and VST3 64bit path is not on x86 directory.
Still downloading, i hope there's no problem on scanning but i think some DAWs would not see VST3 plugins on that path (if you don't change that), can you please confirm if your daw scans for vst3 even if they are in the wrong directory and tell me wich daw are you using? Thanks.

So, I (clean) installed it in the default x86 folder, and loaded my project. All waves plugins were missing from signal chain.

Fix:

Make sure you install it in the x64 folder. Now, all my projects open fine without missing plugins.

Perhaps, I think it is relevant on where you originally had it installed. Stay consistent.

For me, all shells go automatically installed into Program Files/Common Files/VST3
It is x64. I think maybe my computer is smarter, I don't know :P

Sorry about that but if you are talking about vst3 how can you make sure to install it in C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\Waves instead of C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\VST3\waves? Vst3 installation is custom, you can't change path during installation, that is possible only with vst2, maybe i didn't understand correctly what you are telling here. Please tell me more.

When you go to this page Waves_soundgrid-server_specs , and click on the 'multirack benchmarks', you can see how many instances can be ran, for those particular plugins.

It goes from 30+, at 44.1 to 300 or 400 instances, depending on the plug-in and samplerate.

Then, do the same thing with the Uad2 cards, and their instances chart will show most plugins will destroy a Solo card, with only a few instances, and even an octo card, sold at 1700 bucks, can be maxed out quite easily.

Let's not forget those octo cards cost almost 2000 bucks, and, no surprise, we can stack 4 or more...


Now, when you check the waves soundgrid server specs, it 'only' has 4gb of memory, and comes with a intel i3 skylake.

Fyi, the i3 skylake ARE 2-CORE cpus, clocked from 3.6 to 3.9GHz, with 256kb of L2 cache per core.

Yes: a cheapass 2-core cpu, at 3.6 to 3.9GHz and 4gb of ram, on a gigabyte motherboard with integrated lan adapter.

The questions are:

When we see the hundreds a d hundreds of instances that can be ran on such low-specs system, the chassis+morherboard+cpu+ram probably costs WAVES less than 250-300 bucks (sold at 899 with 50 free plug-ins),

IT IS safe to say the +10 yo cheapass low-specs Sharc dsp used by Uad are true horse shit, that probably costs them less than 10 bucks per unit, 10 years ago. . (Today, it must cost even less. ..), but they keep asking 1700 bucks for a octo card.

So....are the Uad plug-ins MUUUUUUUUUUCH BETTER than the Waves ones, so good that they require more power, and can easily max out the uad2 cards ?
OR...are the Waves plug-ins so bad, compared to the Uad ones, that can easily run on ultra light systems, with 2-core cpus and 4gb of ram...?
