It's funny, you'd kind of expect this to be some funky boom-chukka-chukka machine wannabe, but its actually surprisingly worthwhile. You can get some interesting results playing with this software. Worth a try if you haven't used it. You'll be surprised.

Yes this is a great tool even for professionals but I think it lacks one of the major needs of any musician and it's Scale selection as you know.
I personally like any tool to be more like the Chordwizard Songtrix and also Rapidcomposer.

My feeling is this software is made for people who already have a basic understanding of music theory, because as you know scales are only guidelines and music rules are meant to be broken. This puts the emphasis on choosing chord arrangements that actually sound good, as opposed to 'being correct'. As a matter of course I always think in terms of I ii iii IV V vi etc, but for anybody who is struggling with scales I would suggest keeping a reference book/website handy. The true power of ChordPulse is being able to quickly scroll through different chord variations

There are some tools in the market that accommodate with the users needs in the field of Music Theory, but most of them except Songtrix do not help users to write a complete song. Most of the chord progressions have been discovered previously and playing with them is just wasting the invaluable time. Of couse musician would always get ideas.


As you know music production does have 2 sides (musicians and engineers sides). I strictly could say that 90% of tools focus on DSP and arrangement of the parts of music. I admit that music is mostly a inspirational feeling and there is not any strict rule to lead the user to create a real music, but with the advancement in the science of artificial intelligence, etc. expecting developers to ease the process of songwriting is not a infeasible request.

Yes, That's the exact answer, but when? I think I should wait for a long time to see that day.

BTW, By using tools like Chord plus, just such below small loops could be created (I created it in just 30 minutes) but not real songs.

I use ChordPulse to audition chord variations and arrange them in pleasing sequences, i.e. it is a discovery tool for me, not a songwriting tool (if that makes any sense.)

have you found any copies of songtrix that seemed safe to use/install? I've always wanted to check it out, but every time I find a warez version my AV tags it as having a virus. Have seen the same thing on several tries, so I never completed an install. I know, probably a false positive but I've seen it with a few different AV programs so I decided to let that one go.

Songtrix is so valuable for me that I'd prefer to loose all of my girl friends in car accident or other disasters but even not to see that Songtrix has been detected as virus or sth. I'd never trust AVs for tools I'd like and suggest you don't too.

Songtrix is one of the most intelligent (let me say the only one) program for any musician of any genre. I've started to use it seriously from about 2 years ago and you don't believe me to say that most of my music knowledge comes from it and every time I use it, I discover new things.

The developer has said that new version is coming soon.

Kind of wondering about a few things. Firstly, I'm curious as to what kind of music you produce and whether you think this (or Songtrix) is a more appropriate piece of software for producing certain genres of music over others.

Also, do you use it to create MIDI and export that to your DAW or could you explain better how you use it exactly? I'm looking to try it out myself but it never hurts to hear about somebody else's workflow that has been working with it for a longer period of time already.

I'm always looking for plug-ins that speed up my workflow and rate that particular bit very highly when it comes down to choosing the plug-ins that I actually use. Whether it be the compositional side of things or just the engineering. So, I'm wondering if this would help me write MIDI pieces faster than I could in my DAW. I tried using the stuff from hooktheory.com for that but it just doesn't provide the depth that I require at times since the chord variations in there can be rather shallow.
