Sylfid doesn't use any samples: everything is computed on the fly. This gives the freedom to change any parameter of the model, allowing to tune the instrument in many different ways, and to produce a wide variety of different sounds. For instance, it is possible to change the material the strings are made of, from plastic to metal, or adjust the shape and hardness of the hammer along with its position on the strings. All these properties can be modified on a per string basis.

I remember me and mr Phil Collins playing around with this sort of stuff, that was until mr jarre came around and found me jumping on his strings with nail-files between my toes while he struck each note. Mr Jarre kicked him around the room calling him a pervert. A punch up ensued and he never came back around. It took me a long while to explain in my broken french to mr jarre that we were just experimenting with the piano strings to make sounds, he's still suspicious and when he comes for tea I can hear him checking my wardrobes to see if phil collins is hiding in them. He's soo silly, everyone knows phil collins hides in the coal shed! Silly frenchmen!

Yes, Phil told us this story when Michael Jones and I have come to visit him in Fechy (Switzerland). Roger Hodgson was there too (he was spending holidays at Phil's house) and he laughed a lot, especially when I've asked Michael if I could try something similar on his Telecaster with my left testicle...
