BFD3 is the third generation of FXpansion's flagship software acoustic drum studio: new levels of realism and ground-breaking features in an intuitive redesigned engine.

With stunning new kits with mix-ready presets and modelling technology for tom resonance and cymbal swells, BFD3's audio engine delivers uncompromising detail. The revamped interface has a new mixer and sound browser for the easiest BFD experience yet.

BFD3's all-new library is recorded in two fantastic rooms by engineers including Andrew Scheps, Rail Jon Rogut and John Emrich, giving you a diverse palette of drum tones out of the box. The sounds include a brushed kit and processed drum presets for fast custom kit-building. BFD3 also contains a powerful built-in environment for pattern creation and editing, complete with a range of performances by legendary drummers for effortless production of drum tracks indistinguishable from the real thing.

BFD3 comes with VST2.4, AU, RTAS and AAX64 plugin versions and also as a standalone application.
The VST2.4, AU and standalone app work in both 32-bit and 64-bit environments.

As I read different Opinions about SD versus Addictive and BFD on the net, 60% were for Superior Drummer, 20% Addictive Drum, 10% BFD and 10% for other Drum VST Instruments.

I tested SD, ADD and BFD with the same midi file and different music styles and different drum sets.

Lastly for me the winner was the smallest Library,"Addictive Drum".
It is Much easier to tweak the sounds, Has the better, Light weight Gui, top Edit and FX section. The default kit is not perfect but If You have the Expansions and combine the kit pieces, use the tricks in the Manual, then You get a drum kit You will love.

In Addictive I don't like the snares but I could easily edit them and get my specific snare sound. The superior has very clear, natural and sharp sounds but You have to pass the channels through external effects, what I never done in addictive.

This is Just my Experience. Maybe this can help users who have not compared these Drums

I would like to know our Experienced Users Opinions

Edit: I checked the BFD3 Demos. The Cymbals are fascinating, Snares good, Bass drum is OK too. The new engine seems to have all we needed in SD2 and it didn't have. I hope to read the opinion of users who tested BFD3.

AD uses "horizontal" round robin samples layering, means on a certain range of velocity you will have many similar samples, so when you hit a sample dont pick even the same one if you stay inside "THAT" velocity.

that's why no need to make so big library with dozens of layers like other virtual drum instruments that use vertical sample layering.
regarding the FX section i suggest to use your daw best ones… the internal fx for every VSTi could be good, but not the best you can add to your drum sound, above all when you own something like altiverb or LX480 reverbs!

tele,
I agree but do You know, I am composer. when I compose I need to to have some good sounding and inspiring Instruments to make my sketches and Arrangements. My final work is normally Played Acoustic.

I thought Addictive uses the Vertical Layering too. I could hear the difference but I thought they used less samples for Vertical Layering with different Velocity.
Thanks

Lastly for me the winner was the smallest Library,"Addictive Drums".

I would agree on almost everything you've said. Superior sounds smoothest and perfect for everything except dirty rock. But the winner for Addictive Drums is the simplicity in all ways; how quick they load, how little cpu they use, the unique features like filtering velocities; synced & looped preview of chosen midi files etc. I only don't know much about bfd but I suspect it is more similar to superior than AD. The simplest, however, is EZdrummer, where unexperienced beginners should start from.
It is not what you've got; it's how you use it.

when i owned a Alesis D6 Drum rack BFD Was the best for midi triggering ect... but with the keyboard those finger drummin
never could really map midi properly it was strange, and the acoustic drums where good but i preferred Addictive Drummer for my Style

I also think Addictive drums are easier to work with and although I do have Toontrack and BFD2 I always start coming back to Addictive since I get frustrated easy and don't have time to be fiddling around. I'm going to download BFD3 and check it out but will the bfd2 library work in BFD3 ???... anyway THANXX A MILLION Finally a tasty download...PS I'm still waiting on Sequoia and keep my fingers crossed... rofl

If you guys are asking whether FXPansion limits this puppy to only version 3 libraries then no. All your old libraries should work perfectly. And BFD is better quality than any other library in my opinion. There are downsides just like any other though too so try them and pick whichever gels with you.

Always hesitant to start downloads this big when they are likely to be taken down shortly after. dunno

The library is in the Win, Mac section but the installer is Win only so I guess not yet. I'm sure someone will release the Mac version soon.

All you need is this library and the installer found in another thread just like always.

audiodessey,

From Manual:

If you are upgrading to BFD3 with BFD2 on the same system and your expansion packs are already authorized for use within BFD2, they do not need to be re- authorized for use in BFD3.

I hope they must to work... (i'm during downlad process now..)

let me know if it works. I have all BFD2 stuffs... hope it will work well with BFD3

I've always used BFD2 and Superior Drummer. BFD is the best sounding imo, but Superior Drummer is a close second with a bit of post processing eq,compression.Superior Drummer was easier to use and very easy to modify drum mapping. It seems BFD3 has addressed the drum map issue with simple "learn" midi functions for all drums and their articulations, and can also drag and drop drums/articulations to on-screen keyboard.
Superior Drummer was my #1 due to its simplicity, but BFD3 will most likely take its place.
