Fielding DSP Reviver v1.3.2-R2R screenshot Fielding DSP Reviver v1.3.2 | 2.81 MB
Team R2R 2013.08.30
Reviver creates harmonic distortion, a sound which is often connected to vintage gear. It does not emulate analog equipment, but instead gives the user full control of overtone generation and volume. Despite this high level of controllability, Reviver's user interface is intuitive and provides the desired result after just a few mouse clicks.

Second-Order Harmonics

Second order harmonic overtones play an important role in the sonic coloration that tube amplifiers add to audio. The sound produced by tubes is often perceived as "warm" and "smooth". Using Reviver it is possible to add second order harmonics to your sound in a very precise way.

Third-Order Harmonics

Third order harmonic overtones change a sound more aggressively, with the effect often referred to as "punch", "fatness", or "detail". These overtones are also created by tape and overdriven solid state amplifiers. With Reviver you have exact control over third-order harmonic generation to give your sound that extra lift.

Anti-Alias Filter

A general problem of digital distortion plug-ins is that instead of only generating the desired harmonic overtones, they also create aliasing artifacts, i.e. overtones which are in disharmony with the original signal. Aliasing is an exclusively digital problem that does not appear in analog signal processing. Reviver is completely free of aliasing in audible frequencies. Click here to find out more about aliasing.

Thank you R2R and Stormy! I wanted to try this one.

I don't like the fact that it's a msi installer, and it doesn't work if you just copy the dll into VST folder. It's stupid to have an installation like that for a simple saturation plugin. These guys have yet to learn a thing or two hundred. Anyway, despite the 1.3.2 version this is only the 2nd Windows release as far as I can tell from their "shitter" page [I hate social networks with passion and especially Twitter], so there's hope. :)

Since I don't want to even try it this way, I would appreciate some comments about the sound. Do you like it? Is it worth installing it? Maybe even buying it? :)

Oh and please don't get me wrong, I'm not ungrateful to R2R. I just like my OS very clean and install as less msi installations as possible since they create a copy of installation in the windows/installer folder. Completely stupid. No wonder - it's MicroSoft installer after all! Imagine what would it look like if *every* plugin could only be installed through msi installer? There goes your SSD space into MS neverland. >:( you can actually erase the surplus, but anyway msi is completely unnecessary especially for a simple plugin. I wonder why the manual install doesn't work... if someone comes up with a solution I would appreciate it. :)

What I've done is installed it in VirtualBox, copied the VST2 DLL and 2 registry entries, and merged the registry entries in my real OS registry and copied the dll into VST folder. It works in 99% of cases. I couldn't find any additional files that msi installs. So it doesn't work that way for some reason. Weird. MSI installer probably creates some hidden registry entries or files somewhere...

Cheers!

Thanks for sharing that common knowledge which everyone seems to understand but you. I was over at another site and guess what...they're not discussing Audioz either. Imagine that. wow

I have to say the audio samples on their website sound excellent.
The sound really just gets a bit fuller and punchier, but without any real distortion, without the unpleasant harshness that many saturation plugs produce.

Like the Softube saturation knob, for example, which is way overrated imo.
Never seem to get a really good sound out of that thing.

I will download the offcial demo from reviver now, and test it out.
If it's really good, I might buy it.
Come on, 29$... VST3, 64 bit.

this plug actually sounds really cool, so basically its like tube or tape saturation?

gonna have to try this out- i also have problems with msi installations, since i have CCcleaner installed, every time i do a registry clean, my msi associations gets all screwed up, and to this day i cant even get my computer to recognize a msi file, i double click on em and they do nothing, no processes launched.. ive googled it for hours and all the solutions dont work, its pissing me off as the video game terraria is a msi install

before i had found a script i made into a .bat file that was a drag and drop onto the bat msi installer, and it worked great, unfortunately i cant find the bat file or the original site lol

so, if anyone could be so cool as to extract this plug for me and post that, i would be very very very very grateful

cheers!

also: third order harmonics sounds vaguely like an illuminati conspiracy

First I'll say.. this thing is a beautiful beast even when inserted at the top of a mixbus and used moderatley. I find this extremely useful for when your ready to make those hairline adjustments to tracks so they sound just right and comfortable to listen to. I installed the 64bit VST3 version and it ran in Demo Mode only. So I deleted the VST3 plugin and copied the 64bit VST2 plugin to the folder where I keep those and everything was just right.

no luck on installing this -- not sure how others got it working. I'm on a Win 8 system and used the 64 bit. Just doing the install the only thing that's available is a nag to register. I tried copying the dll's, uninstalling, and then placing the dll's into the appropriate folders -- no luck with that either -- keep getting a pop up that says files are missing and I need to re-install. After that I can get the GUI to open up, but nothing working beyond that.

I'm guessing we'll see a repack from R2R shortly -- seems like they may have just forgotten something on this release -- like a keygen rofl Either that or some info we need wasn't included. I rarely see R2R release stuff where the installation is this unclear.

If anyone figures anything out on this please post....

@iceman --

will try your thumb drive method -- just out of interest, what type of OS are you on?

@rico88:.. I'm not sure if you had both the VST3 and VST2 plugins in active folders when you ran the plugin. But if you haven't tried ONLY having the 64bit VST2 version in an active folder.. try that. You didn't mention what DAW you were using either.

@dbMuzik --

I did have both VST2 and VST3 installed, which on my system was the default installation. I'll give your suggestion a try with just the VST2 and see how it works out. Thanks for the idea. BTW, I'm using Studio One V2 X64 as a DAW.

I mentioned before I was thinking of trying the install-to-thumb-drive method that someone mentioned but for some reason on Win 8 I'm not seeing any option during the install to choose where you want the folder -- it's just defaulting to the "C" drive.

rico88:.. Yeah, I'm on Win7 Ult 64bit, and S1 V2 64bit. So give it a try. I believe the 64bit VST3 plugin doesn't work. And the VST3 is taking priority over the VST2 when they are in active folders at the same time. Another thing is that "Fielding DSP" folder that goes in your regular Program Files with the user manual and activation tool in it is unnecessary. I deleted that program folder. There is no uninstaller in it anyway.
