ValhallaVintageVerb v1.0.0-R2R screenshot ValhallaVintageVerb v1.0.0 | 7.3 MB Team R2R 2012.12.20
ValhallaVintageVerb is a postmodern reverb plugin, inspired by the classic hardware digital reverbs of the 1970s and 1980s.

Features

8 true stereo reverb algorithms:
Concert Hall. Based on the hall algorithms of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Huge spatial image, echo density that can be adjusted from very sparse to very dense, and lush chorusing modulation.
Bright Hall. Similar to the Concert Hall algorithm, but with a brighter initial sound, and deeper and lusher modulation.
Plate. Inspired by early 1980s plate algorithms. Highly diffuse, bright initial sound, high echo density, lush chorused modulation.
Room. Emulates the sound of early 1980s room algorithms. Medium diffusion/early echo density, somewhat darker sound, chorused modulation.
Chamber. A transparent and dense algorithm. Highly diffuse, high echo density, less coloration than Plate/Room algorithms, chorused modulation.
Random Space. This generates DEEP and WIDE reverbs, with a slow attack, and more diffusion than the late 1980s algorithms that inspired it. The modulation uses internal delay randomization, to reduce metallic artifacts without the pitch change that can occur in the algorithms with chorused modulation.
Chorus Space. Same as Random Space, but with the delay randomization replaced with lush chorused modulation.
Ambience. Combines time varying randomized early reflections with a full-featured reverb tail, with the balance between early and late reverb controlled by the Attack knob. Useful for adding “air” to drums, vocals, and any place where a reverb should be felt but not heard.
3 color modes for dialing in the tone color and sonic artifacts of a specific reverb era:
1970s. Replicates the reduced bandwidth of the earliest digital reverberators (10 kHz maximum output frequency). Downsampled internally, to reproduce the artifacts of running at a lower sampling rate. The modulation is dark and noisy, and can produce strange and random sidebands with sustained notes. This is intentional.

1980s. Full bandwidth / sampling rate, for a brighter sound than the 1970s. The modulation is still dark and noisy, but will produce different artifacts than the 1970s mode as it is running at the full sampling rate.
NOW. Full bandwidth / sampling rate. The modulation is clean and colorless, versus the funky artifacts of the 1970s/1980s modes.
The interface has been designed to be instantly accessible and user friendly:
Streamlined set of powerful parameters, organized into logical categories.
All controls on one panel. No menu diving required.
Tooltips at the bottom of the plugin window, that describe the currently selected reverb mode and color mode, as well as any parameters the user is adjusting. The goal is for the plugin to be self-documenting.
A powerful cross-platform preset menu, with the ability to copy and paste presets in a text format. Share presets via emails, forum posts, etc.
Continuously resizable – just click on the lower right corner and drag to the desired size.
Modernist, minimalist 2D graphic design.

The copy protection is based on a simple keyfile, and the plugin can be installed and used on multiple computers. No dongle required, no challenge/response.

ValhallaVintageVerb is available to demo/purchase for OSX (AU/AU64/VST/VST64/RTAS) and Windows (VST32/VST64/RTAS).

@ Kookaboo,

I'm agree that the GUIs of the 'Valhalla' products aren't the most
'amazing', 'flashy', 'chic',... that you can find among developers.

By cons and undoubtedly, 'Valhalla' products largely compensate this fact
by their HIGH sonic qualities (my OWN opinion !). yes wink

And as well known :
"No matter how looks the bottle as long that we get drunk !"

His color matching skills are inversely proportional to his knowledge of reverb algorithms and designs rofl

Seriously though, his plugins could look so much better with just a few tricks of the trade... Kook, where's your eagerness to change the situation? tongue

Off topic, but how can this be post-modern and be modeled after something from the 70's? Is this guy just throwing buzz words out there?

@ Kookaboo,

Ugly interface...

Don't worry ! The GUI doesn't change... but you get 3 different colors :

- this depicted in the provided image
- a 'simple' White one
- and a 'flashy-psychedelic' Blue-Purple one !

when browsing through the 'Factory Presets'... dance

About GUI, it reminds me Ableton Live minimalist style, but sounds great for my needs.

The GUI is influenced by Swiss School of graphic design as stated on his website. Accent on typography, ease of use, that kinda stuff... At least it's clean and resizable
The ugliest interface award should go to OhmForce and their plugs. They are ugly to such a degree that I can't use them no

And yeah with regard to the sonic quality valhalla plugs are one of the best out there phones

Thank you a million times R2R!

I don't care about the GUI for as long as it sounds great, and Valhalla plugins do sound great! Less complicated GUI means more memory for other, more important stuff, guys, and also responsiveness of the GUI is better, and it opens more quickly etc. I actually despise GUIs like Overloud ones that tend to be megabytes of BMP files. Not necessary IMHO. Open your ears, not your eyes, it really helps to mix better. ;)

I think that after some period of testing this one will become a permanent member of my paid for plugins... ;) Valhalla keeps the prices reasonable and they all sound great.

Now onto the testing! ;P

Kookaboo, if you want a nice GUI, buy some 2000$ hardware like TL Audio, Tube-Tech, Neve, SSL, API... You also get a 3D perspective GUI! :D There's just something special about those knobs... I like the hardware shit I have. It costs too much, IMO, but it's worth it. Just a few bits of something good. It also gives you a special "mojo" when you're working with it. It's not all about the sound with hardware. Sound is actually too noisy and out of phase, but... it sounds good, and it's mostly placebo IMO, however, it also just feels good, too. Just a little something to have that's a "device" you can touch and feel, not a plugin. A good example would be Lexicon MX400... a really nice peace of hw, not really expensive, and very useful.

I probably think like Kook, a GUI I like is very important and very inspiring to me ! I know it's probably stupid (Even more with music) but it's how my brain works...

Some of us care about the feeling (Like hardware stuff), some others about what they hear, and some what they see (More commonly a little bit of all three but one of them is always stronger than the 2 others)

We are all searching for different things... dunno

yes Yes I agree with you mostly SineWave.
Working with hardware (which I still prefer) has its sunny sides...but hardware is too expensive + you need much space too.

I know that WALHALLA's low price policy IS connected to the fact that they have chosen a cheaper option of graphic design. Of course one can never compare such a Company to WAVES, where they have a very well and clever concept of Corporate Identity.

valhalla plugins are amazing. and I like their GUI very much. I hate tube emulating analog crap with knobs and wood with brushed aluminum to make you feel warm and nostalgic, its the 2012 and about to be 2013.
