Farewell, Finale

After more than 35 years, we have made the decision to sunset the Finale music notation software and all of its associated products (PrintMusic, Notepad, Songwriter). We want to extend our deepest gratitude to all of our loyal and passionate users. Thank you for letting us be a part of the wonderful music you’ve made over the years. If you would like more information on the decision to sunset our Finale line of products, please refer to the letter from MakeMusic President Greg Dell’Era.

Brilliant. I have since purchased Dorico, but the transition is painful! Thank you R2R for this final gift.

Maybe the developer stops the development, so that there will be no newer versions and R2R released this "final version". That's my best guess.

RIP Finale! You were my first notation software while I made my first steps into the composers world but luckily not my last so the separation won't be painful...

Farewell to the King! Thanks R2R, this is a nice tribute and a valuable service to the community. Many orphaned users will appreciate this release.

Thank you, witches!

I had a love-hate relationship with Finale!

A pioneering and extremely useful software for any type of notation (traditional and contemporary). The VST section is lacking (but functional), but the MIDI editing part is absolutely dreadful.

I even purchased this software, and when I questioned MakeMusic's support about implementing MIDI editing directly on the score, I received the response that the company had no intention of adding this feature and that if I needed it, I should buy another software that offered it. Well, money is what keeps software being developed and updated. But it’s essential to listen to the user base (like Reaper does!).

Beyond music educators (not exactly lucrative clients), Finale was widely used in industries like Broadway, Hollywood, Bollywood, Bellywood and similar fields. However, as these users saw their requests constantly ignored, there was a gradual, massive migration to other software.

In short, MakeMusic stubbornly (and inexplicably!) resisted incorporating VST3 support and MIDI editing directly on the score—features offered by Overture, Sibelius, Notion, and Dorico. The lack of these implementations, along with the need for substantial improvements in audio setup (latency problems in audio and MIDI drivers) and its almost endless editing menus, ultimately led to the downfall of what could have been an unbeatable product.

Thank you Makemusic and R2R. And I lament the path that led to its end (If the company even regrets it, as I get the feeling they were relieved to rid themselves of their users' constant complaints!)

So, for literally years! there were no sign of any k'ed new release for MacOS since version 25.5 here and now when it's dead suddenly appears a cracked v27 from the dark.
That's classy! Thanks but no thanks!
Shame on those who kept it for some small, privileged group!
I don't believe it was just cracked recently.

I'm aware of the predictable reaction of some but I don't care...

None of group owes us anything and they clearly don't need to do this for us. Being so privileged that you think we deserve everything that any group cracks is just absurd. Any of the group can just decide to not release any cracks and they'll be just fine. But what about the likes of you? Not so sure

Brother, you always have an option to move to Windows from MAC, rather than blaming some anonymous people on internet for not releasing a software for your system, especially when you aren't paying a single penny.

R2R has left cracking for MAC a long back. So you better take this as a gift and rather than complaining about why it wasn't released earlier, just thank that they took time to make it and move on.

You didn't look around much did you jazzz ! I've been running a kracked 27.3.0.160 for years and only because I couldn't be bothered to update it to this version ! Even my 27.3.0.160 runs fine on Sequoia !

What I’ve noticed is that Finale was gradually abandoned by the "Show Me the Money" industry, remaining as the preferred application by a segment of teachers, students, bandmasters, and copyists with more limited budgets. I believe R2R restricted the cracking of this software in recognition of its contribution and out of respect for the financial difficulties Makemusic has faced in last years (due to the rise of other software and Makemusic's rigidity in the face of user requests). I can only conceive that as the reason.

thank you witches, i am of course grateful for everything you do but these releases, they're the most important to me, because you do for the paying customers what the developers should have done, and you give the option of using the software even after the authentication servers go do. this is r2r at their best, IMO. thank you very much

I installed this on my M2 Macbook pro / Sequoia 15.1.
When first loading it natively, it checks all the plugins and suddenly it pops up a warning that incompatible plugin is found and the next move is to crash itself.
Rosetta2 didn't help.

Other apps in this case would pass that kind of incompatible plugins.

Anyway I'll try more.

Create alternative folders to back up all of your plugins (as "VST BackUp", "VST3 BackUp", "AU BackUp", etc), & move the plugins to their correspondant back up folders. Install Finale & configure it to avoid plugins scan. Move back the plugins to their original locations. If you choose to start a plugins scan u'll see which is the problematic plugin to start a solution ride, or you can simply use Finale without using plugins at all (as many of us does).
