Acustica Audio Indigo 2023-R2R screenshot
Team R2R | 2024.09.27 | 115.6 MB
Indigo is an uncompromising 5-plugin suite specifically designed for high-end mastering duties.

A vintage-sounding 3-band stereo EQ derived from a modern, discrete, class-A tube stereo EQ with input and output Jensen transformers.

This is a uniquely β€œwide-range” EQ, focusing on broad-frequency brush strokes rather than honing in on specific frequencies. Thanks to its β€œaggression” control, it can heat up your sound considerably by generating extremely musical harmonics.

While this is a processor that was designed with mastering in mind, its versatility and sonic beauty also make it an ideal tone-shaping plug during the production stage.

Who tried Acustica Audio LIme 2 based on Neve VR88 which Adele Bowie and Amy WInehouse mixer uses at Electric Lady Studio in New York, I brought it does not work with Mixcraft. It sounds so good in the demos.

FYI Only one Pre is sampled from each A=VR B=88RS.
The rest input preamps are unknown.

Do you know how does people figure out which hardware was emulated since Acustica never really tells the names?

There's a lot of gear heads out there, myself included, who can guess based off its appearance or functionality. Theres some hints too, as to what frequencies were sampled etc. We all kind of bounce ideas around on gearspace until its very obvious what was sampled.

The Fairman TMEQ really give it away. Look at Magic garden Tube EQ from Access Analog. You'll then also see Brian (Lucey) on Gearslutz talking about that one.

There’s an unofficial Acustica Audio list of gear that is being emulated on JustPaste.it if you Google search it. A very handy guide

It doesn't show up on google for some reason. I use Yandex to search for it

Sweeet! Glad to see more AA releases. Anyone compare this to Tone Projects Michelangelo?
  Member 18.03.2020 159

Michelangelo more subtle for sure. Perfect for master chain touchs.

I think it's not really fair to compare a Transient EQ to a Transient smearing EQ.

Which one IS TH smearing EQ?

He'd be talking about Acustica

most Acqua Stereo EQs have transient smearing effect, some blurring effect not in a bad way, but can be really bad if not setup correctly. It's one of the desirable flaws of analog gears most of the time because of the signal path quality (cables, patchbay), conversion inaccuracies, sampling process +/- and so on. It's not really a problem, just characters (both plugins and hardware). The common way people talk about it is "it rounded out the transient" which in technical term is just slight transient blurring. You cant really control that with AA captures of the device, some has cool sweet spot some can go super annoying like the Sunray EQ which I can't stand at all.

Full algo plugins like Tone Project Michelengelo is kinda the pristine digital version of the hardware without all those, but with tons of even more useful added feature for transient enhancement/controls. You can really go to town with how you want to shape the transient, body and the tone of the sound if you want.

So, I thought it's really unfair to compare those two since each has its own thing. Almost impossible for the AA version to sound better than the Tone Project's at the hand of very capable user.

Thx, Stevie. I am more interested in the Fairman EQ in the bundle. Have you any experience with it?

I just tested it to see if everything is okay with the plugin earlier. Didn't fully tested it but I have been waiting for it as well after the ERIN disappoints me in a way. Do you know any proper Tube EQ (non-Nebula of course) that's worth checking out ? I'm in need of one but tbh nothing beats Wavesfactory Spectre for that type of job for now. Nothing wrong with the Spectre but I would've love if it has some classic curve with proportional Q if possible. Is there any Tube EQ with propotional Q anyway ? lol

The PA Lindell Audio TE-100 is very nice. I read somewhere that they based the Fairman on this EQ.
  Resident 29.11.2020 29 3021

that's interesting because the TE-100 is more like a Pultec style than it is a full parametric tube EQ but I'll give it a try again and see if I like the sound. There's EMERALD which sampled the same EQ but R2R version is broken somehow.

Correct, but I use it in mastering soul/r&b kind of music. I like it very much. But I will put it to the test with the Indigo mastering eq. For precision, I still prefer the make believe studios Sontec eq (not tube though).

Interesting, I've always felt just from listening that hardware and sample based plugins like Acustica handle transients in a more pleasing way than algo plugins.

But not because it sounds softer or smoother, to my ear Acustica typically sounds punchier than other plugins. Part of the overall 3D vs 2D sensation. Is this a misinterpreted aspect of transient smearing, or is this perceived punchiness a different phenomenon?
  Resident 29.11.2020 29 3021

not sure, probably just terms. The "standard" in audio for "Punch" is what happens after the transient stage of the audio's envelope. The stages :

Transient -> Body (where the punches lie) -> Sustain

This is how I understand it for years, all the books I've read seem to define it that way too.

If you have TBTech Cenozoix plugin, put it on Plugin Doctor. Go to Dynamic tabs and select Attack/Release. Move the "Punch" slider on the plugin and see where it changes on the graphic. It's after the attack (transient) and before the release (sustain).

I see, so transient rounding and punchiness can co exist. I like it.

Just had a look at Cenozoix compressor, wow I've been sleeping on that one! I'm a hardware (or sampled hardware) junkie but can't wait to try Cenozoix out and run it through plugin doctor as well. Cheers.

Reason i stopped using acustica plugings. my tip is to not use more than one of any acustica plugin on my master chain, just for depth. For now the Ivory series are a little forgiven to the transients, Space control is cool also. Also the Nebula 3rd parties especially Alexb consoles are good with transient.

Stevie do you know any other acustica plugins that dont coat or rather smear transient?
  Resident 1.04.2015 202

I think that was a pun, initially, wasn't it ?

Things appart, I may think there is quite a world between signal smearing from windowing artifacts against analog circuitry.

My bet is a kind of soft clipping done in the band of a filter circuit, but I ain't really sure, did not dig that much on that, without taking account the fact that specialized information on this domain ain't as available as the sidechain tutorials to mix like a pro, to name just a random picked example.

You’d be better off getting Cupwise’s M-Equalizer for Nebula

I have it and it sounds pretty good, but having other EQ to manipulate all the parameters as you like is also pretty good.
