MAAT Digital thEQblue v5.0.0 Incl Emulator-R2R screenshot

A dozen precision variations on “analog,” all in one equalizer.

thEQblue
Beautiful analog Architectures, twelve in all, that will take your work out of the ordinary.

Yes, Your Blueness
The equalizer is perhaps the oldest and the most popular of sound processing tools. From its earliest days, the main function was correction or enhancement by boosting or cutting certain frequencies.

For a century, engineers have developed countless equalizers. A few became legend, our thEQorange is one. The most popular version in recording and post is the parametric equalizer or PEQ, first perfected by Massenburg in 1972. It offers maximum flexibility with only three controls. Properly used, the PEQ is a powerful tool and the best friend of every audio engineer in the quest for perfect sound. As Spidey (and Voltaire) always reminds us though, “With great power comes great responsibility.” When designed by a clueless or cost–constrained software engineer, it can truly degrade your work.

Why develop yet one more parametric equalizer (PEQ) when there’s already hundreds on the market? The answer is simple…’Cuz there was room for improvement! It was customers of the original LinearPhase PEQ Red and Orange who asked Algorithmix to develop a classic EQ, for recording and mixing tasks, with unparalleled purity and transparency. Over several years, our Dr. Christoph closely analyzed many of the best out there, and compiled a vast knowledgebase of analog EQ best practices. Cherry picking from that, he implemented not just one or two, but an entire collection of trad minimal phase EQs. The result? A distillation of analog antecedents, while others are based on new ideas.

We know you’ll enjoy our dozen variations of blue, newly revised by MAAT, and will find your favorite sound. We’ve also added subtle but important touches, like the ability to freely assign Sections to either stereo [left/right] or sum/difference [L+R/L-R] at the same time, and to “group” all Sections and make a global gain change without disturbing the relationship of individual Sections.

The Twelve
We wanted to lift analog to another level, so we reverse engineered a variety of well respected hardware EQs, creating idealized digital versions from that inspiration. Rather than models or simulations that carry analog baggage, thEQblue has no noise, distortion or other secondary effects inherited from analog.

All minimum phase equalizers work by summing a phase shifted version with the original. thEQblue is the most complete collection of classic. minimum phase equalizer Architectures ever assembled into one package. You get precise, idealized examples of legendary analog equalizer circuitry, complemented by progressive new models. Whether it’s vintage, modern, or experimental, thEQblue is a sonic sandbox for every mixing and mastering engineer to play in.

A witch says,

Have fun with this true emulator work of Nalpeiron/Zentitle. AAX works in legit ProTools as expected.

Note that 32bit version does not work well in this version. This is known issue of the framework (JUCE).

This software is a good example of how something being expensive doesn't necessarily mean it's of high quality.

I really value user-friendliness when it comes to EQ.

If you're havin' EQ problems, I feel bad for you, son
I got ninety-nine options, but this ain't one

What is not good about the MAAT plugins? Anything in particular?

Personally when it comes to eq, I really value user-friendliness. I prefer EQs that are intuitive and easy to navigate, allowing me to focus on my creative process without getting bogged down by complicated controls.

What about the sound?
  Resident 1.01.2021 276

Absolutely! but If the source sounds right, everything else will fall into place. If I need warmth or saturation, I'd rather reach for a dedicated analog emulation plugin like the UAD Pultec than rely on a graphical EQ for those qualities. I prefer my EQs to be clean and straightforward, so I can focus on shaping the sound without unnecessary complications.

These days it's really hard to find an EQ that actually sounds bad tbh. It all comes to how fast you can dial what you want.

I'm still using these - lovin the sound since the 2000's!
Algorithmix' digital EQ's (now called MAAT) are still very valid in 2024, even with all the FabFilters, etc.

I have seen mutilple Pro producers and engineers studio session online. Never seen anyone use or mention about this software.

I guess only the guy who devleoped this software uses it mostly and Our audioz community

Could well be, haha. I used to be a legit user of Algorithmix. Some ppl will say that Algorithmix EQs sound clean ... actually have an own sound to them (hard to describe but something "special"). I'm mostly using them (theBLUE & ORANGE) in a mastering chain, not mixing.

Isn't this EQ that sold for 999$ if i'm correct? It might be the best with the best algorithm, coding, workflow or whatever but it doesn't justify paying even 100$ for, anyway thx R2R for giving the chance to try

it sold for 999 20 years ago and it made sense. there was not much else around. Think Waves Q10 and the Weiss digital HW unit which sold for between 7-10K. And many admitted the Algorithmix was even better than the Weiss so compared to that price tag it was a bargain. For many youngsters today used to pay $50 to $100 for a good plugin it's hard to understand but those were the times.

I think that might have been the price in the past, but for the orange one, then. Orange is the most expensive of the bunch with 589 Euros. Red is 489 and Blue 389, followed by the SantaCruz.

It was thEQorange (their linear phase EQ) that used to be $999. They quickly changed it to only subscription based licensing after massive amounts of critique on various pro audio forums. They later reinstated perpetual license for thEQorange, but lowered the price to $500 or something.

awesome plugin, thank you again R2R! - question though, have you guys got news on their version of K Stereo?

It's an EQ... Surprise! Yall most probably wouldn't consistently identify the difference compared to other good digital EQs in a proper blind test even if your life depended on it so, keep that in mind when demoing this one.

I wonder if this business models still works for MAAT lol, cuz whos buying these and for these prices nowadays?
be kind :)

I want to say a big thank you to R2R for this release. The last version was crashing, GUI problems, obviously considering my modest laptop. This one is more fluid, low CPU consumption, the Defi mo makes the sound more beautiful, almost as good as nebula equalizers, such as Mammoth (thanks AITB). Keep rubbing the gong dear Witches.

If you want the endgame mastering EQ, just get Equilibrium, then Pro-Q for mixing.
  Member 28.11.2016 957

Wrong on both accounts, esp Pro Q which actively damages your mix with aritfacts and a mushy sound. Please don't act like you're the authority on everything when you give bad advice.

As for the Equlibrium, sure it sounds good but it's horrible to use with a terrible interface. Kirchoff is a better mix eq, sounds and works better. And for mastering there are many choices just as good or better.

All well coded clean digital EQs (decramped, no noise, no thd) sound the same if you match the curves with analysers like PD for example. I used to think the same like you, i though Kirchhoff's high end sounds way airier, Pro-Q sounded blurry and harsh until i checked PD and realised the mapping were different. Did a blindtest after and couldnt tell a difference. I chose Pro-Q cause it has the fastest workflow and Equilibrium for the libraries of unique curves and deep phase options. I'm talking about clean EQ here, there are of course EQs that sound nicer than Equilibrium but they're non linear (Michelangelo, HarmoniQ, Pulsar Massive...)

No, I will continue to use Cherry and Michelangelo ...

This is one of the best eq available, it is at the antipodes of acoustic audio, but both have something special that, apparently, few people can enjoy, especially those of more than two decades using plugins.
For me is very good . . .
