Legendary grit and crunch
Meet the RX950 Classic AD/DA Converter, our first effect plug-in, designed to perfectly mimic the whole AD/DA conversion process of the Akai S950 in order to give your music this vintage, warm and crunchy sound with the ease & flexibility of a VST.

In the beginning

Inphonik RX950 VST VST3 AU AAX v1.1.3 MAC/WiN/LiNUX screenshot
The Akai S950, one of the most famous samplers from the 80s, is largely praised for its legendary sound. Many consider the 12-bit grit and crunch still unmatched today.

But the 12-bit resolution is not all. For over a year, we studied every bit of this studio gear masterpiece to bring back its unique character to your modern DAW with the RX950.

Dead simple controls for a killer sound

Input Gain
makes your sound loud ’n proud with the S950’s unique grit and warm distortion. It’s powerful and will help anything stand out in your mix.

Audio Bandwidth
controls the target sample rate and analog-to-digital conversion circuitry with an exquisite, yet remarkably subtle, aliasing effect.

Filter
controls the S950’s infamous steep low-pass filter. Use it on separate elements, or on any output bus or master section.

Brilliance
Adjust the Audio Bandwidth's high-frequency response with the Brilliance knob (in Settings/Back panel).

i used this sampler 25 years ago, paid thousands of euro for it, now you could emulate 20+ per project, on a 149€ TV streaming PC 😁

I've never owned a S950/S900, but I know people who have them in their workspace, so when this plugin came out I demoed it, honestly just to warn people off it... but instead ended up buying it straight afterwards. It's not an identical one-to-one in an A/B or anything, but it is a solid emulation.

yeah but can't u use any bit crush plugin with adjustable bit depth and sample rate + a low pass filter?

seems like it's mostly just a "fast" plugin to get instantly the right vibe easily and without having to mess around. not that that's a bad thing.

You could do that, or you could save the hassle and get this (for free). It takes up a mere 83mb and has a cool GUI
y'all got anymore of those plugins??

It seems they've taken care to emulate the 950 as closely as possible. They even claim to have re-created the quirks of the machine's LP filter. It sounds fairly convincing. I've never been able to get as close to the 1200 sound with bitcrushers like Decimort. Could be a skill issue. But this plugin is easily worth owning

The S950 has an analogue filter controlled with a digital clock. Difficult to completely recreate in the digital domain. Like all analogue emulations, there are limitations.

like it or not, it does what it's meant to do...as an owner of an 950.

Decimort and TAL-DAC are much more versatile and of supreme quality (which admittedly is a bit of an ironic description for signal degradation).

Thx a lot for the data, I'll try the three plugins.

also try this: https://audioz.download/software/win/225511-download_wavetracing-sp950-v-130-win-vst3-mocha.html
I tested many bit crunchers but this one is special in a musical way

Versatility isn't really the order of the day with this plugin, with its purpose being to capture a specific end-result without hassle. Decimort is beast though, I just don't usually want/need straight degradation, unless it's a very specific flavor.

I was intrigued to see how well this perform, but after listening the samples I've got upset one more time.
Any company doing comparisons that doesn't compensate levels are probably lying you.

I'm not going to do a loudness test on demos again as it's a thankless task, but I've found that many of the even halfway reputable companies have demos that are close enough that I think that they're a fair way to assess what the plugin is actually doing. Incidentally, many people just aren't accustomed to distinguishing the actual loudness of the compensated "after" of a before/after when the examples are dealing with heavier compression or saturation; though, in my less-than-humble opinion, they're the most difficult types of loudness changes to gauge accurately.

the GUI resolution on this for me has got really bad compared to the last one on here, anyone else find that? Might have to switch back

I've never noticed a change in any of the versions.
I don't see any special graphics requirements for it either.
What are you running? Everything up-to-date, drivers, etc.?

I'm on Windows. I haven't even touched a Mac in so long I wouldn't even know where to start troubleshooting.
Sorry.

Hi thanks. Yes I did this but it’s blurry at the new size. The old version wasn’t blurry. Hmm

not a single track I've made hasn't had multiple channels or even the entire mix run through this plugin since I first downloaded it here a few years ago. absolute production staple imo!
