Acustica Audio Desert 2023-R2R screenshot
Team R2R | 2024.06.24 | 107.1 MB
Desert is a suite consisting of four different plugins embodying a unique recording and mixing desk from the early 1960s, as well as other rare gear of the same brand. All of the original hardware came from a recording studio located in Lagos, Nigeria that was owned by a famous British record label.

The centerpiece of this project is the recreation of an iconic vintage console module, whih Acustica had the opportunity to samples thanks to the invaluable contribution of music producer, composer and sound engineer Sodi Marciszewer (the owner of this priceless equipment), and Zarma Studio.

In Sodi’s words:

β€œI was able to acquire this console from a mythical recording studio in Lagos, Nigeria. There, during a session, I noticed this monster from ancient times lurking in a dark corner. I was well aware of its potential: I knew that she was quietly waiting for someone who would take care of her!

I had had the opportunity to work in these studios thanks to my relationship with Nigerian musical icons Fela and Femi Kuti, for whom I produced, recorded and mixed many albums. By continuing my musical commitments in these unique places, I also got to discover other pieces of gear built by the sam company, which employed the same technology… specifically, I found stereo equalizers and opto compressors from another mastering console. I felt deep joy, as if I had stumbled on hidden treasure.”

The Desert suite packs an authentic sampling collection of these ultra-rare modules from mixing and mastering consoles, which are highly sought-after by collectors worldwide. Get the sound of an iconic vintage console assembled with the best elements that British technology had to offer, all in one plugin suite. Desert will give your mix a punchy sound filled with character, and all the unique sonic colors that defined the groundbreaking music of the 1960s.

Note: Acustica has derived 4 different plugins from these unique pieces of hardware: a channel strip, an EQ, a dual-mono compressor and a preamp module.

Claretta says,

Library is completely decrypted, decompressed, DRM related bloat removed, and built to the clean one.

You probably haven't installed the "acustica framework", which is a separate r2r download

same problem here for VST3. I think the CompZL too but I deleted that plugin so wont know but there's other reporting both COMP and COMPZL asking for authorization.

The COMP section in the channel strip plugin too, will mute the plugin.

Was looking for Desert for months, sadly as of today 13 Aug it still has the comp issue in VST3, but the bits that work sound great.

people hate on acustica because their plugins have gigs of bloat due to copy protection, as well as their older plugins be massive cpu hogs due to the nature of the plugins. The CEO has also been known to be a bit unsavory at times. Their plugins are top notch tho. Anyone who hasnt at least tried them is doing themselves a great disservice.

BUT thanks R2R for showing the world their true colours.

Confirmed here as well: VST3 Comp needs authorization. Additionally the VST2 Comp crashes Reaper. I tried a couple of times but same results

The hate for AA is real me on the other hand I LOVE their plugins also Thanks R2R.

Anyway The COMP on both VST/VST3 needs authorization but ONLY on the COMP1 Module. If you open the plugin ( if you see the auth bug off rip try reloading the plugin. I dont get it off rip) and turn the comp mode knob to the LIM module the plugin works normally but only COMP2 and LIM modules work and if you switch it to COMP1 the authorization bug appears. COMP1 is the problem. The same thing with Desert Chanel Strip if you turn the Comp mode knob all the way to the LIM module the plugin works normally but as soon as you switch it to COMP1 the plugin mutes.

I installed VST2, and same thing, dials just jump back to zero, and unlike above, I can't switch it quickly to limit or comp2 on the single comp plug, so none of the VST 2 comp is working. R2R will fix it soon.

If the bug appears you will have to reload the plugin. You can’t get out of that state without reloading the plugin. Open the plugin and switch the comp mode dial to LIM and it should work… It works here on my end with the method mentioned above but yes will probably see a fix soon

Unfortunately, Comp1 is the one I wanted try the most. Apparently it's supposed to sound really good on the 2-bus, creating a nice separation of the instruments with some warmth and depth. A recommended trick is to start with the slowest release time to help set the threshold. Then play carefully with the SOA (threshold sensitivity). Careful dialing of SOA alongside Input Trim, Threshold, SHMOD and Attack will get the best results. Anyway, I'm looking forward to trying that out!

Thanking R2R in advance for a fix on this one

Strange, I tried unloading the plug and still didn't work, I even tried restarting the Daw and it didn't work. Different daws may updtate a plug differently and mine {Cakewalk) maybe does it faster or slower and the plug can't shift before it updates or something such as that. Doesn't matter, R2R has always put out a fix within a day or two, so I imagine it will today.

I installed as VST2 and the comp doesn't work here at all. Kind of concerning as in the past R2R usually had a fix posted within a coupl,e days.

I'll leave it to the desert storm

Darn, R2r usually had a fix by now, I hate to have to uninstall Desert because of a broken compressor. Let's hope R2R gets a fix posted soon.
