smart:EQ 4 uses AI to correct spectral issues and achieve tonal balance. This equalizer empowers you to approach a project from a mix’ perspective: Intelligent cross-channel processing offers hierarchical control over multiple tracks and enables you to get spectral mixing done via drag and drop.

Intelligent cross-channel processing for spectral unmasking
AI-filter to automatically correct tonal imbalances
Dynamic EQing, mix profiles, reference track feature, auto gain,..

Keeping the mix context in mind – effortlessly
Unlike usual equalizers that leave the context of a mix out of any processing, smart:EQ 4 lets you take control over multi-track unmasking processes easily and get spectral mixing done by simple dragging and dropping up to 10 tracks. This set priorities for each smart:filter, bringing some elements to the forefront of the sonic stage, leaving some in the middle, and pushing some into the background. Switching back and forth between instances is a thing of the past in this innovative tool – any instance within the same group can be remotely controlled from any other instance.

AI-powered equalization for instant spectral balance
The centerpiece of smart:EQ 4 is the smart:filter – it automatically balances the signal based on a target Profile you choose for your tracks. The smart:filter within each EQ instance comes with a range of features to adjust the AI-powered processing to your liking. Open up the smart:filter widget to tweak the Smoothing parameter for gentler filtering and turn up the Adaptive option to smooth out highly dynamic signals. You can split the green weighting curve of the smart:filter and set a certain frequency range to define where the intelligent algorithms should get to work.

smart:EQ 4’s smart:filter can be used in three modes: 'Track' balances the channel; 'Group' doesn’t affect the channel but reduces masking between it and other group members; 'Track and Group' applies balancing to the channel and makes it subject to unmasking.

Profiles for instruments, vocals and entire mixes
With each generation of smart:EQ, the range of available Profiles grew. smart:EQ 4 sports instrument and vocal Profiles that you can use on single tracks or busses. To give your mix a final spectral polish, use one of the genre-based profiles. If you are chasing a certain sound, load up a reference track to create a custom profile and have smart:EQ 4 emulate its spectral character and balance on your channel or buss. By popular demand, now you can even specify the maximum learning time that smart:EQ 4 should use to analyze the input signal.

It has always worked, you need to be online with your PC otherwise the AI function is not available.

Ah ok thank you, didnt know that.
So does that mean I need to have my firewall open while using this plugin then?

It is a tool completely opposed to acoustic audio. For young and modern people who have not yet had time to train properly and who need good results now, right now. The results of this algorithm (I dare not call it AI) will never be optimal, but if you're lost or want a second opinion, it's an excellent help.

**NOTE** You need to turn your firewall off to allow the group mixing function to work.

Be sure your internet connection, wifi or ethernt is disabled just in case any of your other plugins or daw make a sneaky call home.

can someone elaborate on this? it confused me in smartEQ 3 already. i think you don't need an internet connection for this to work, you only need some network protocol enabled or something? what is it exactly?

also i'd be interested to know how the spectral balancing is compared to 3. i remember reading comments that praised the improvement in 3 over 2. has this been improved here as well?

What I've found is that you cannot have your daws outgoing connections blocked by a firewall.

To use this successfully
1. I turned my firewall off to allow the plugins to communicate (not usually needed but for smart eq it's needed)

2. So my daw or plugins don't call home or connect to the internet I just simply disabled my ethernet connection (If in your case you use wifi then make sure that it is disconnected before opening your daw)

DAW Firewall rules off
Internert connection disabled

Smart EQ grouping function should work

thank you, that's what i suspected. will probably be a hassle for people who usually block their DAW. if one plugin is worth it to change the setup like this?
  Resident 29.09.2017 521

It's only hassle for me if I want to watch a tutorial and use the daw at the same time.
If i'm just making music I disconnect the internet and then open the firewall, no more than 5-7 mouse clicks

Are you sure you should turn off the firewall? I'm currently downloading this VST. With other applications, what I usually do is create a rule to allow the program through the firewall. But now that I'm thinking, this is a VST... mmmm... well, in this case, since I use S1, it's the scanervst that allows it through the firewall, not the DAW. Maybe we should experiment, perhaps setting the other VSTs as 'read-only'? I don't know, it's interesting for someone experienced in this to give an idea of how to make only one DLL communicate through the firewall without turning it off. With an .exe, it's possible because I've done it by creating a specific rule.

And the downside is that it needs to connect to the internet. I dislike programs that require an internet connection to function, even if they are free,
If you only look at one side of the coin, you'll never truly know if it's a coin.

Yes your are right... but files used to call home could be in many places on your system, your 'Program Data' folder which is usually hidden on pc is a prime example.

But yes I turn the firewall off to use this plugin. My internet coneection is off at the same time too though - nothing is calling home if the internet is off as well.
I always block FL Studio and ILPluginscanner and ILBridge to be safe with my firewall.

Three exe files.

I wasnt clear before at all sorry,
I only disable the firewall for the main FL21.exe to use smart eq.

I only ever disable the 'block outgoing connections' rule for them when updating FL or a new bought and paid plugin needs authorising during the scan or when you open it for the first time.

Even still, for nearly a decade I've always turned my internet off when installing and opening new plugins, especially from here, just to be safe nothing calls home.
Works for me.
Keep going...

That's bad news. My entire DAW is blocked, and it will stay this way...

from what i know this only applies to the grouping functionality, not to the spectral processing/balancing
  Resident 20.03.2018 3 649

How can it offer spectral balancing if it can't use groups, if one wishes to remain offline? Can it still see other instances on other tracks or not?
Patience, respect & gratitude - Always
