What You Get
The Smoke plugin suite includes:

• Smoke Stereo EQ: A stereo, 4-band, fully-parametric EQ with high and low-pass filters derived from vintage US-made units from the 1960s and 70s. Plus a complete preamp section featuring 5 mono line and 5 mono mic emulations from a famous tube mixer amplifier of the 1960s, and 5 custom mono-stereo preamps derived from historically high-value tube standalone hardware.

• Smoke Comp: A 1950s tube compression amplifier emulation, a real a piece of history, an all-American stalwart of early broadcast and recording studios.

Dunno how ANYONE can have any faith in using these plug-ins, they are all known to have issues (sonically) that can bite you in the a&& when you least expect it. Some sound good some sound bad, but all have risks (and most have super poor workflow). I can't recall a SINGLE AA plug-in that wasn't 'corrected' in revision 7,8,9,10 etc (list goes on) due to some previously undisclosed sonic artefact that was spread all over people's mixes at random.

I still think it's one of the best (technically and humanity wise) R2R releases in some time though so congratz and thanks to those guys!

Anyone else missing the smoke comp? I got the smoke channel strip and the smoke eq - but no comp. I've reinstalled twice but no joy. I can see smoke comp files in the VST3, but it doesn't show up in the DAW [nuendo].

On Windows 11, running VST3 only. No problems with other R2R AA stuff.

Ok - so Smoke comp VST3 shows up in Studio 1 6.5 but NOT in Cubase 13 or Nuendo 13.

Good shout - but just checked 13.0.20 and Smoke Comp VST3 is still not working. VST2 no longer crashes it though.

Glad to check this one out (thanks to R2R and funtime!), but one beef I have with this one and some of the others is when there's no option to resize the gui. I wish it was on all of them, my eyes are just not up to the task. I wonder why AA only has it on some rather than all? Is there some way to resize this that I'm unaware of, like a file you can open up and rewrite some of the code? lol, who knows, maybe my eyes are so bad I'm just not seeing the resize button??

P.S. Yesterday it was Claretta. Today it's Clara. What's going on with that?

In Cubendo you can resize it by going to the 'functions' dropdown menu on the VST and clicking 'allow window to be resized'. It doesn't change the DPI, so the res is a bit mid, but it's better than nothing.

Thank you for the suggestion. I'm not a Cubase/Nuendo user so unfortunately it doesn't apply to me. I use Studio One... maybe there's something similar in that which I'm unaware of. Hadn't even thought of that possibility, will have to poke around and see if I can find anything. Thanks again!

Under Win10 and Nuendo 13 the VST3 does not display Smoke Comp. Trying VST2, it crashes. I'll wait til R2R Nuendo 13 update is available to try again.

I really tried to like this one but it just doesn't beat Timp Vari Level in terms of sound and musicality on vocals mainly and i would also choose Arturia STA Level over this one because of the character/Grit it adds but only specifically on bass but it was nice to try this one out hands on at least. Maybe someone else will have a different experience with this plugin but al in all keep em coming! Thanks R2R
