Maize is the authentic Markbass PP-10 Parametric Equalizer in plugin form: an official recreation of their PP10 EQ hardware.

Maize is the official recreation of the PP10 EQ by Markbass.
Maize is a VST/VST3/AAX/AU Acqua plugin that faithfully replicates the behavior and sound of the highly-prized PP10 by Markbass: a solid-state parametric equalizer inspired by the sounds of classic equalizers from the 1970s and 80s, and further enhanced by Acustica with the introduction of features that make it even more powerful and versatile.

This project inaugurates Acustica’s collaboration with Markbass, offering the pro audio sector a product with extraordinary qualities rarely found in the EQs on the market today.

The Perfect Sculpting Tool
Maize embodies the main features of the PP10, which an extremely musical, but simultaneously very precise equalizer. It features 10 bands, each of which includes 19 selectable frequencies, a gain pot that controls cuts and boosts (-16 to +16dB), and a rotary control that adjusts the bell width (Q) from 0.3 to 6.0. The latter is an unusually high Q value for an equalizer; the machine was specifically designed to allow the use of very narrow bells, allowing fine, surgical corrections in the frequency spectrum. Its sound signature is distinctive, and while it adapts extraordinarily well to mastering, it gives its best in the mixing phase, when you’re correcting or sculpting the sound of your instruments.

All of this and more is replicated by Maize.

This plugin is an equalizer that audio experts would define as esoteric, in that it’s linear to the extremes of the band with regards to frequency response and phase. In the low range, its linearity goes almost up to DC! This is an equalizer with its own distinct sonic personality, and with great shaping potential. While using it, you will immediately notice how each intervention can be calibrated with precision in terms of decibels, especially in the subtractive phase.

Acustica was so impressed by the extraordinary qualities of the PP10 unit that it couldn’t resist the idea of creating a digital version, as well as introducing some additional features that provide even more further versatility. These include control-link, M-S, switchable preamps (solid-state and vacuum tube), in-out meters, band activation buttons and oversampling options for the preamp section.

A Little Bit of History
The PP10 stereo equalizer was born as a prototype around 2006 due to the Markbass company's desire to build a precision equalizer β€” hence the acronym PP, which stands for β€œPure Precision.” To make sure they were creating something truly special, they relied on the expertise of none other than Rodolfo β€œFoffo” Bianchi.

Bianchi is one of the greatest producers and sound engineers in Italy, who, for decades, has helped to write some of the most important pages of his country’s music history. Foffo's wealth of experience date back to the golden years of RCA, and helped Markbass to create a state-of-the-art equalizer. This uncompromising hardware unit was meticulously designed, optimally engineered and built with the best components available.

However, the uncompromising pursuit of absolute quality had an unintended consequence in the development of this ambitious project. The almost prohibitive production costs made the unit difficult to market, and Markbass had to decide whether or not to venture into a new field: pro audio. After weighing the options, they decided to set aside the project in order to evaluate the potential risk at both an entrepreneurial and commercial level.

In the end, only two units were created. One is still in possession of the Bianchi family, while the other belongs to renowned sound engineer Sabino Cannone. Thanks to Acustica’s development of the Maize plugin, sound engineers can finally reap the benefit of this excellent product, which is both unique and nearly impossible to find in the non-digital realm.

I think R2R dont want to use these sample rates due to problems . They have written in another Acustica post some details about those two rates . I dont remember which one was but if you search you can find it .

Strange... get some nice sounding results using some of the presets, but almost all of the knobs seem to do absolutely nothing. Level and panning work but turning almost every other knob seems to have no effect at all. Win 10 machine, Studio One.

I was so excited to see these AA releases show up at first, but it seems to have mostly turned into frustration. Very few seem to work as you'd expect. I can't even figure out if its that R2R had a rare slip-up with these, or if Acustica is actually this bad at what they do.

Haven't tried this plugin yet, but I'd rather guess it's Acustica. I don't really get the hype. They have some nice plugins like Ash, but the usability is shit in every single one compared to other companies. I mean, you change a parameter, the plugin thinks about it for 2 seconds, then mutes the audio briefly, then gives you a nice little > 0 dBFS pop, then unmutes the audio again with the updated parameter? From which other dev would we find this acceptable?

No slipups. These works way better that the originals. Go figure.
Maybe the trial versions are not updated but that's weird too because why giving a buggy release to a potential costumer ?

I can't be certain, but I believe R2R cracked the trial versions, which are different .exe's that don't get updated as much as the full versions. That's why they're not behaving like expected.
I'm just speculating here. But it makes sense cos the trial versions don't come with the 48/88k samples either

Could be ... or it's just for exposing the facts.
Organizing , bug fixing and updating so many plugins(x2) must be an hell of work if not well managed.
Trials are fully functional with time limitation and are a totally separate download / license.
Btw no exe istaller exist for anything but Aquarius.

Are you sure you activated the bands ?
For me everything is working

Lights have to turn red on the on off Buttons

Thanks for asking! Yup, all activated, tried a few things with all lights being turned on and red. Was just reading Stevie Dude's thread on our neighbor site, people finding lots of bugs in these releases, so no big surprise I guess. It is strange though, when I turn on a preset the knobs will change pretty much throughout the front, and the sound changes along with it. But if I manually turn a knob with my mouse, nothing! The only ones that seem to work are panning & main output levels. I'm wondering if it may have something to do with my computer -- it's an i7-9700 @ 3.00GHz. Maybe need something more powerful to get these running properly? Anyone out there finding this and other AA releases working well with those sort of computer specs??

Cheer up. XMASS Is Around the corner and the witches promised us some Synths. AA Is a perfect example of why Less is more. You simply don't need them to make Music.

Legit AA users are reporting that these R2R releases are Trial demos. The telltale sign are the missing 48 and 88 kHz files. If you try them, there is something always wrong, laggy or buggy on all of these unfinished demos. Most of them are unfit to use in any sort of production environment in their current state except for the plugins implementing Hyper technology that include all 4 sample rates(44, 48, 88, 96).

In my opinion, the problem is the source that R2R is using. Whoever supplied them either intentionally or unintentionally gave them the wrong source or is misleading them as to their authenticity as the actual final finished product.

There is no supplier needed. AA pluins can be downloaded freely as a time-limited trial via AA Aquiarius tool

Which just reinforces what I said in my original post. All these R2R AA releases are trial demos that are NOT the final completed retail versions.

If that’s the case R2R might consider focusing on the 2023 AA releases where they’ve been concentrating most of their fixes on both trial and final plugins. They’ve kind of abandoned older plugins to some degree but the new ones are getting more attention. And frankly those are their best releases overall anyway IMO

No. AA plugins dl'd via Aquarius Tool can by fully used in production. Just the Trial Time is the only limitation. After you buy+actiavte the product, nothing additional gets downloaded. Hence you already had a "finaly completed retail version" installed

No, Trials and Complete product are a different download. In fact you can have both installed at the same time. Bloat it to the limit !

That’s right. And legit users do report frequently that trial and retail versions behave differently. But less so with the most recent releases, probably because of their new technologies that they are using. I’d like to see R2R release more of the recent ones, which are frankly more stable and less bloated in both trial and retail versions. They sound much better too.

If nothing additional gets downloaded for paying customer, who started with the download of demo version, how come full versions of some products have additional sample rates for which I presume additional download is required?
  Member 10.06.2014 89

This is entirely untrue. Acustica trials are a completely separate set of files and a completely different, independent plugin to the retail versions. Where are you getting your information before posting total hogwash?

for 48kHz user, use the normal 2X eternal oversampling (patchwork, Reaper OS, metaplugin). I figured that the plugin internal OS both 8x and 16x didn't really remove the high end rippling artifacts.

The PP10 stereo equalizer was born as a prototype around 2006 thanks to the Markbass company's desire to build a precision equalizer (hence the acronym PP, which stands for 'Pure Precision') relying on a professional in the audio industry, Rodolfo 'Foffo' Bianchi. Rodolfo is one of the greatest Italian producers and sound engineers who for decades, since the glorious years of RCA, has helped to write some of the most important pages of Italian music history. Foffo's decades of experience allowed Markbass to create a state-of-the-art equalizer. However, the uncompromising pursuit of absolute quality had an unintended consequence in the development of this ambitious project. The very high, (almost prohibitive) production costs, made the unit difficult to market, and Markbass had to decide whether or not to enter a new field, Pro Audio, in which it had not operated. For this reason Markbass set aside the project in order to evaluate the possible risk at both an entrepreneurial and commercial level.

In the end only two units were created one is still in possession of the Bianchi's family, the other belongs to the sound engineer Sabino Cannone (www.morevox.it). The project had neither continuity nor development, although the product was excellent from all points of view. Thanks to Acustica today with Maize you can finally enjoy this wonderful product, both unique and extremely rare.
