Diamond Color EQ 3 is Studio DMI's signature sound contained in a single plugin. It’s the secret ingredient to crafting heavy-hitting, radio-ready songs that have that β€œspecial something.”

In Search of the Perfect Vibe

We worked closely with acclaimed engineer Luca Pretolesi in order to revamp the original design of this renowned processor, which is a favorite of electronic music producers all over the world. Our updated version includes new features, such as an additional HMF band with selectable frequencies, a β€œfocus” control (for precision mastering duties), a left/right and mid/side selector, as well as a complete β€œcut filter” section.

In Pretolesi’s words: β€œThe Color EQ fills the gaps between frequencies.”

Luca Pretolesi: The Hit-Making Soundsmith

Luca Pretolesi has logged over 20,000 hours in the studio honing his skills. Mixing and mastering are an art form at the world-class Studio DMI in Las Vegas, and each session is carefully executed in order to create the best sound possible while preserving the artist’s original vision.

Pretolesi pushes the boundaries of expectations by taking his mixes to the next level; in adding the finishing touches to a song, he does so in a way that is uniquely his, thanks to his superb ear and decades of experience.

As an engineer, he has worked with Diplo, Major Lazer, Steve Aoki, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, DVBBS, Snoop Lion, Gareth Emery, Dada Life, Lil Jon, MakJ, E.A.S.Y., Morgan Page, Dillon Francis, KSHMR, TJR, and many other chart-topping artists.

A witch says,

Library is completely decrypted, decompressed, DRM related bloat removed, and built to the clean one.

We can see users are really frustrated by seeing the "fact" and complaining to developer in some forums / SNSs. Funny thing is, many are asking iLok as a new protection. R2R users know that it's another bloating protection.

Current Acustica DLL is about 4MB. WrapWarden (iLok wrapper) adds 10MB. If dev wants more, they put MetaFortress, which adds another 10MB. The estimated DLL size is about 25MB after protecting by the iLok. If there were 8 DLL in 1 product, WrapWarden + MetaFortress adds (10MB + 10MB) * 8DLL in the end. Need VST3 and AAX? It must be further multiplied by 3. Another big bloat for sure.

I will assume this doesn't support 48khz sample rate since i didnt find any 48 N2V files

Stevie what kind of eq is the CharterOak PEQ-1 ? Can we say its a fixed eq for example due to the fixed frequencies ? Where do you put it ?

I’ll redownload the releases for VST2 instead of VST3 after that nfo now.

damn.. this fkn guy again lol.. he must be the most overrated bald ugly hats wearing mastering engineer that ever existed. I don't like this chart topping "special something" sound at all but hey, try it out if you want, it's free now!

CPU usage isnt extreme and is actually reasonable here. Fabfilter uses less tho. The eq here is fine and works

edit: all of Acustica products need to add function of turning the knob to 0/resetting when you double click it! Without this its a hassle and annoying to use

the "preamp" doesnt change sound and u can use different plugin thats more CPU efficient. u r right some plugins rest knob with ctrl click but some plugins do with right click or double left click. why insult me and call me amateur?

Always read the manual. Always.

PREAMP: The PRE-IN button enables (lamp ON) or bypasses (lamp OFF) the preamp stage of Diamond. The Harmonic distortion levels depends of High frequency, the boost of High frequencies increases the distortion.

Really nice EQ. I've been wanting this plugin since I first heard of Acustica back in 2018 or something.

Btw, title is wrong, should say "Diamond Color EQ"

What are your thoughts on: Acustica vs. Waves? And what are some of your favorite Plugin Devs?

Really big fan of Charter Oak EQ and been using the Analog Obsession OAQ version 1 since forever. It's one of the AA plugin I've been waiting for R2R to release. It didn't disappoint either. CPU is acceptably low but to get the full benefit of it of course always oversample (for 48kHz sr project) to get the perfect curve of the High Shelf which is the strongest part of this EQ. The whole sound of this EQ depends on that high frequency. From the manual :

PREAMP: The PRE-IN button enables (lamp ON) or bypasses (lamp OFF) the preamp stage of Diamond. The Harmonic distortion levels depends of High frequency, the boost of High frequencies increases the distortion.

Input is labeled "Input" instead of "Input Trim" like other AA plugins, so it does not have output compensated function but pushing the sound into the plugin will always do what it usually does. Not affecting harmonic pattern/shape though.

The 50kHz curve is useful to get a sense of height, instead of just doing the Air boost, it affects the very low end frequency range as well, it could help shaping the sense of "height" of the sound. I prefer the JMG Sound Expanse 3D for the Height boost better tho. Try it out.

The HMF is kinda unique, it was modeled after a rare Italian Pearl Mastering Console that used for vinyl mastering (couldn't find anything about it) the almost double bells EQ boost a certain ranges of the mid frequency to bring up all the mid, crank it up together with the High Shelf then turn the Output volume down and finally compensate the lost low end with the LMF or the Low Shelf band to get the best out of this EQ.

Bro please enlight me.if I use it in44100 khz and i boost highs, it sounds bad?

no. I don't think so, 44.1kHz sample is included so no conversion happening. What I meant above is for people that work in 48kHz like I do, without oversampling the curve is a little weird for a shelf which is likely an artifact from internal upsampling process from the source 44.1kHz included vector.

can be explained in this screenshot.

apart from the dip at 22khz and beyond, you can see the starting frequency of the high shelf is early/lower than the one at 2X OS (96kHz). It's not only happening to the shelves but the bells boost too. It pushed the center frequency of the boost lower than it should. 2kHz boost will happen at 1.8kHz, it's artifact. None of this happening at 44.1kHz (or 48kHz with 2X OS and 96kHz).

However from the manuals :
Two sample rates are provided with Diamond EQ-3; the native sample frequency is 96kHz. The 44.1kHz frequency is derived from the native one by a down-/up-sampling process. This method avoids any negative sample rate conversion (SRC) artifacts when matching projects with different sample rates; it also greatly helps with project loading times.

From my understanding the original source captured curve is 96kHz and AA already did the downsampling process during the creation of this plugin and made sure everything is clean without artifact and the integrity of the curve remains the same for it to work at 44.1kHz. One thing to remember for 44.1kHz user is NEVER to externally oversample the plugin unless the plugin comes with internal OS (in the plugin itself like the newer HYPER plugin) because 88.2kHz vector isn't included for those plugin that I've listed not working correctly at 48kHz. You'll endup with similar result as using it at 48kHz without oversampling that makes everything worse.

If the curve isn't perfect, sound wise I don't think it will sound really bad like everything sound like shit, but it defeats the purpose of using analog emulation EQ where it is always to get the sound as close as possible to the hardware it emulates. Curve shape is important part of it. Saturation being another piece of the puzzle. Does it matter ? not much, just a little bit. but mixing in itself is a little bit of this and that stacked together. You don't want to have too many of non-perfect stuff in the mix, it will in the end affect the overall mix in context.

Had the legit one and heavy use on my projects. Deleted all the legit files and tried the R2R. It's working amazing!! The only bad thing is Studio One doesn't detect this new version and I have to re-load as new insert so will check if there is a way to make S1 detect this as the old one so I don't lose my configurations.
