Cherry Audio Pro Soloist v1.0.4 92-R2R screenshot

Pro Soloist is the latest in Cherry Audio's roster of ultimate "what if?" virtual instruments. Featuring the precision-crafted and circuit-modeled DSP designs of award-winning developer Mark Barton, Cherry Audio's Pro Soloist goes far beyond emulating the treasured, preset-based monophonic analog synth originally released by ARP in 1972. Pro Soloist not only exactingly reproduces the expressive controls, 30 presets, and the unique underlying architecture of this prog rock classic, it breaks it out of its cage by making it fully programmable and expanding it with full polyphony, splits and layers, a mod matrix, integrated studio-quality effects, and more.

At the beginning of the 70s, analog synthesizers were just making their way into the hands of working musicians, and their operation was still a mystery to most folks outside of a college music lab. To avert potential user intimidation and bring synthesis to the masses, manufacturers introduced simple monophonic preset synths that were intended to sit atop an organ. ARP led the charge in 1970 with the Soloist, the first commercial preset synthesizer, featuring 18 presets and basic controls.

In 1972, ARP followed it up with the Pro Soloist, updating the analog preset control with revolutionary digital read-only memory chips (which improved tuning stability) and expanding the preset selection to 30. Most impressive was the introduction of an innovative β€œtouch sensor” keyboard (now commonly known as aftertouch), where pressing harder after playing a note introduces changes to the sound, allowing highly expressive playing. Specifically, the Pro Soloist’s touch sensor controls enabled pitch bend, wow, growl, brilliance, volume, and vibrato. This was heady stuff in the early 70s, and the Pro Soloist proved popular with musicians for its ability to rapidly emulate lead instrument sounds such as horns, strings, woodwinds, and more.

Despite its association with progressive rock, the Pro Soloist was popular with acts as varied as Tangerine Dream, Gary Numan, Kansas, Herbie Hancock, Patrick Moraz, Styx, John Entwistle, Parliament, Billy Preston, Vangelis, David Bowie, Brian Wilson, the Ohio Players, Chick Corea, Prince, and Josef Zawinul. Most notable was Tony Banks of Genesis, for whom the Pro Soloist was his first synthesizer. The track β€œThe Cinema Show” on the 1973 album Selling England by the Pound showcases many of the Pro Soloist’s presets building up to his epic solo featuring the β€œFuzz Guitar 1” preset.

Yeah, this Company is what we need, i like alot the character that distinguishes their synth from the common β€œall vst sounds the same”, Mercury 6 and Harmonia are my pref. but generally I like most of their products, making tracks alive and easy mix also, support the developers here is a must.

We would support them if they were not scammers.
Their modular system is a scam.
They don't deserve any support.

What do you mean a scam ?

They hide the fact that even if you buy a polyphonic module, you will need another pack to be able to use it as polyphonic, because you need a polyphonic output module that is not included.
Any product that depends of buying another product to work correctly this info should always be clearly stated.

For example, if you buy a graphic tablet with a screen but that is not standalone, it's clearly stated that it wont work without a computer.

They do not say nothing about the fact you need another pack so your polyphonic module will work as polyphonic.

They also overstate their claims of accuracy.

When their GX-80 plugin came out, they made wild claims about how accurate it was and how they hired some dude who knew everything about the CS80...

But when you press the two Brass preset buttons that Vangelis used, it sounds nothing like the real thing. And all the 'impressive' presets cheat by using layer mode... not to mention the unreasonable CPU usage...

They also use terrible privacy-invading online-only DRM. Crappy company making crappy products, trying to lure in suckers using discount prices...

Not shure if they are that different. Its the same sound across all of their VSTi range. The only thing that changes is GUI and some synths (like this one for example) are more crippled in terms of functionality than others.

They sound better than SynthEdit thow

Thank you R2R.
But Cherry Audio is the McDonald's of sound industry.
Anyone looking for quality should look elsewhere.

I am very intrigued... The Cinema Show is a killer genesis track, off arguably there most polished album, 'Selling England By The Pound' ... let's hope this thing delivers...

for me personally, cherry audio is overrated. while they may bevisually appealing, the sound of the engine gives me goosebumps, making it a definite disappointment for me. it looks good but sounds bad in my opinion.

And still a CPU hog if you use it with oversampling on, i say this again: "divine" mode on uhe Diva does not crackle at all, oversampling on Cherry audio plugins make it almost unusable on every DAW if you don't have a supercomputer, crackles for all, goddamn Cherry Audio who thinks that everyone has a brand new big computer or simply doesn't give a fuck about implementing their plugins in a better way.

Does anyone know the "Hammond" clone that can be seen in the demo video above? Is it just an optical effect for the video or does it really exist as vst plugin?
