a 50-year-old Japanese tape machine

Neurontape 1972 brings to you a fantastic simulation of this piece of equipment that is a bit hard to find in good shape these days.

We captured it from a unit that remain mostly untouched for its years. The preamp sound is thick, warm and will wildly saturate the circuit if overloaded.

This unit is Japanese made, about 50 years old. It sounds awesome.

mix applications
From mix-bus to parallel distortion, Neurontape 1972 is a must have plugin for those who want to saturate tracks, glue the mix together with natural analog signal compression or even analog distort.

Experiment with different input/output levels to get to know what the circuit is really capable of.

authentic vintage
circuit and tape behavior

With careful attention to detail, we’ve created a plugin that simulates the subtle nuances of this tape machine, such as tape hiss, wow and flutter, and harmonic distortion, to give your recordings an authentic vintage sound.

tape options
choose between a new or old tape

Neurontape 1972 can run its preamp on different tape conditions.
A newer tape have a wider frequency range and a cleaner noise, while when it is older, it will have more character while being a bit unstable.

unit’s equalizer
different sources requires different eq

Back in 1972, this unit was shipped with a built-in equalizer for suiting different recording scenarios. Of course, Neurontape 1972 also have it.

there is no mix button to balance the amount of effect.

Put this on a Send and use a fader to adjust the amount of effect just like you would for reverb or delay.

i think that the insert is more efficient then a send

1) Mix knob on Tape Machine emulation plugin will only give you Flanging effect when blend together with dry signal (caused by the wow, flutter), if Flanger fx is desired you better off with other proper Flanger/ADT type plugin.

2) If the Tape Machine emu doesn't give flanging fx when blend together, it's not a proper tape machine emulation, just Tape saturation plugin.

3) If you only want just Tape saturation from a Tape Machine emulation without everything else, turn off the Flutter and Wow and using it as Insert is the way to go. The Input and Output knob is kinda like the Mix knob somehow, if you know what I mean. Using it as SEND will fuck up the track phase-wise usually because of the encode/decode EQing happening inside, that assuming it's a proper Tape Machine emulation plugin.

4) most well known Tape Machine plugins dont have Mix knob. Baby Audio TAIP has it, and it comes with warning about the flanging.
