How lovely to see them referred to as valves.

Is this Tone Empire as good as the Softube stuff?

Assuming it's as bad as the rest of their shite products, ima say no? :)
Thx to anybody posting Spitfire / OTB libs!

Agree!
Took 10 seconds to determine that it is useless. Put on Drum Buss & noticed lack of low end along with overall lack of detail.

Why do plugins like this exist? Just to waste our time & resources?

Curious to know if they finally made something useful & on par with Plugin Alliance, Softube & UAD.

I don't like it either.

Input-output link is useless, fully 'dry' produces an audible effect, dry/wet increases the output drastically, low cut should be an internal sidechain, IMHO.

Been playing with it for one day and here's some suggestion how to get the best out of it, say on a drum bus :

1. On load, pick random T, P1 & P2, start with T is okay I guess.
2. Set HPF to around 1kHz and LPF around 9kHz - it's the sweet spot.
3. with Drive/Input linked to Output adjust the HPF, and LPF to the area you want to distort.
- use the Input-Adj and Output-Adj for gain-staging adjustment of the Wet signal only such as you want to push more signal into the distortion circuitry and such.
4. bring in DRY-MIX to around -12db to -9db and Gain match with your unprocessed signal.
5. Start from there to tweak all the other settings slowly to taste, turn on Overdrive, change the Type and the HPF, LPF.
6. Remember to not distort the full frequency range to avoid phase cancellation if you want to blend the Dry with Wet.

Things to consider :
1. You don't want to distort the full frequency range especially for drum, because it will destroy the track and take away all the punchy-ness and whatnot.
2. Low Frequency distortion is better done in multi-band (use other plugin) because the lower part of the frequency will distort first before you can even perceive it, if done in full bandwidth that will surely destroy the track.
3. Distorting the midrange is already enough to make the drum track sounds (perceived) distorted if that's what you aiming for. Well, that's how Culture Vulture been used for drum track for as long as I know. Just smash the midrange.
4. If you distort the full frequency range it will change the waveform drastically (it's waveshaping anyway) and can cause phase problem when blend it with the dry signal. The plugin is lacking phase flip button for that.
5. This plugin needs a lot of improvement and still have a lot of problem especially in User Experience department, but bad sounding isn't one of them.
6. Taste is subjective, but it's important to know what is happening too to make more accurate judgement.
