I think the main feature of this EQ is the workflow it provides.

1. 5Hz HPF - proQ and Kirchhoff limit at 10Hz. Also it has Q controls for the lowest 6db/octave slope. ProQ disable Q at 6db/oct, and Kirchhoff, the Q does nothing at 6db/oct will only start to response at 6.1db/oct setting.
2. Earth band starting with 5Hz bell boost (pro Q and Kirchhoff limit is 10Hz too) that continuously changing its shape with added HPF + Low Shelf too that seems to change the more gain is added. Huge range of option to shape the low frequency extension, the super low Sub. Need proper monitoring though.
3. Continuous filter slope adjustment for 2 LMF and 2 HMF bells filters (4 of them, leaving the 1 center mid band untouched) simultaneously with the Character slider. Seems like useless feature you don't need until you get used to it. Tighten/Loosen things up nicely.
4. Display frequency as a note on the knobs for precise note-based notching or resonance boosting if needed, quicker.
5. Rename the bands, to use with the presets for most situation for those that needs it. Speed up the workflow because the common ideal settings for Q and Freq already carefully picked.
6. Strength slider that basically just an overall EQ gain slider that doesn't show the changes on the Analyzer, forces you to listen without you knowing it.

my first impression too! would really like a proper VMR release, there's few modules that i like but judging by the 1176s weird response and behavior I'm thinking the cracks for the last version isn't perfect.

Yeah the previous Slate releases are a little long in the tooth now huh. I don't love the workflow of VMR (I always forget about it) but it has some cool sounds. I wonder if they gave it oversampling or scalable GUI in the newer versions, they were the 2 biggest drawbacks for me before, their stuff had aliasing and was too small on the screen.
Would also be very curious to try out the new FG-X, I wonder how it fares against modern loudness tools.

Most of all just very curious to know if this means r2r have cracked the new ilok protection? That would open up a boatload of stuff I thought was untouchable. Or is Slate stuff using the old ilok protection?

Slate products use mixed protection and Slate is known to bury somekind of failsafe stuff deep inside that only will triggered on certain occasion, mostly we will only know after they are released and the community get to test it. VMR is among the trickiest one being their flagship plugin. ILOK just being the top layer protection wrapper and there's even more buried inside making it quite challenging to test every inch of it. Liquidsonics being the other passionate one by encoding every single preset too and still silently fucking up something you can't properly hear like muting the "Early Reflection" and add weird modulation to it is just unpredictable. They are getting creative with the timebomb. It will be challenging for the witches.

If R2R got the Slate and Liquidsonics right, the rest is just one big wave for us I guess. I will use all this new releases tomorrow and see if it causes any problem first. Don't want to get my hopes high about others plus I don't really need much these days. It will be even sad if the plugin cracked but didnt properly function and it goes unnoticed until the moment you bounced everything.
