I didn't even know AIR made a Moog Mini D, that's why I love Audioz. Opening my eyes to products I didn't even know exist. Thank you!

I don't know how, but their old VST instruments like Hypersonic, Darbuka Latigo, Xphraze, Wizooverb, Virtual Guitarist, which are more than 12years old, are far more better in quality than the latest instruments. They were so inovative at the time. Pity. What happened to the company, is so disappointing...
I don't know if I should give them a try, but so far none of them fulfilled some basic needs, quality wise. Hybrid synth is exception, and maybe XPAND but still not so competitive.
Anyways here are for free and big thanks TEAM R2R providing us, but man, i think AVID killed them when they have made takeover from Steinberg and whole rebranding. With Steinberg they were before their time in decades. Still there is no virtual guitar with dedicated plug-in and percussion VST, who have better quality and versatility... I don't take in a count Kontakt instruments, because they are very different. Hypersonic still sounds good and maybe even better than HalionSonic in some area and all that in just 1.5gb package. I really miss those days when creativity from developers was on very high level not just copycat style. Now every hardware synth have at least 5 VST emulations, and any MOOG is one of them... For some reason even Arturia Minimoog from. 2009 sounds better than the curent version... Idk why and how, but that is my personal preference. It is RAW

One thing people have to keep in mind is that even though these are for Windows, they were designed for standalone hardware with substantially limited memory. They didn't remake them from the ground up for modern computers. Thus, limited sample sets and digital modeling. Naturally, they won't hold up against some of the better sample libraries available. That said, I also think AIR have grown somewhat complacent at the warm teet of Akai... I don't think they're overly concerned competing with Kontakt and modern soft-synths. They rake it in hand over fist making instruments for grooveboxes. This is just an extension of that.
I was drunk when I wrote this

The team behind Virtual Guitarist now turns into ujam, which is said on ujam's About page. They still make virtual guitarist/bassist/drummer/beatmaker... plugins now.

Yep, only they make similar plugins but still for some reason Virtual Guitarist is unique. I can't deny, UJAM sounds pretty good, but there is still some magic behind VG still after 20 years.
Maybe the Wizoo Team have gone partially in UJAM and some of them left in AIR MUSIC TECH. AIR MUSIC TECH is a big mess... Nice GUI on a new plug-ins, but that is not relevant in this case. Wizoo was the best.

I agree with you.
But, I know why old things are still good. Because they were made by older people, which made them wise, I met a lot of people from Steinberg, many of the guys you mention are already dead, they were the ones who gave the first impetus to Kontakt, but it's good to remember that Kontakt is from another company that already needed Steinberg, then, see what an irony of fate, a head with a better brain, out of Steinberg creates Kontakt we use today, but, it needed Steinberg's know-how for this to happen.

I've heard much better samples in the past, but they didn't even have good articulations like perfect legato, today, everyone does, but the sampled timbres are not as good as some of the old ones.

I remember that the old company "Dan Dean" could sample the best instruments there was, amazing how they knew how to choose the right instrument, another company that made wonderful orchestral instruments was the company "EWQLSO - Platinum..." that got the best sound possible, but, they struggled to make that perfect legato.

The company Kirkhunter was never good, when we heard the samples it was amazing, but the end result showed a poor 'MIDI orchestra' playing on a computer, with all the possible flaws.

Based on that, when I was hired to sample sound for a famous organ here in Europe, I thought of the old concepts, they criticized me for spending too much memory 'EPRON', but I couldn't create the: Sax, Piano, Guitars, Tps, Tbs, without being two samples per note, but the final organ sounded clean adn superb, then I was praised for that.

Another one? It's almost like doing a Minimoog is a rite of passage now...

The first paid VST ever, the Model-E was also a Minimoog sim, but the filter wasn't right at all and it didn't get as fat as the real thing. That thing cost $200 in the year 2000.. crazy what people put up with back then, Steinberg made it freeware in 2010.

Anyway.. I'd say its slightly better than Cherry Audio's attempt. About as good as the Minimonsta maybe? Almost as good as Arturia's Mini V 3. But not as good as Monark, Legend or Model 72.

A solid 6 / 10. Fun to play and might have usable sounds but their claims of accuracy are overstated.

Yes, I concur. All new Air, Waldorf, WayOutWare working 100% and this is the only one that will not launch .exe (it self-kills after some seconds, no GUI ever appears) and the plug-ins won't load in BlueCat's Patchwork. It refuses to be JBridged, too.

It is seen that the very first error the standalone runs into is the following instruction:
insertps xmm1, xmm0, 10h --- 66 0F 3A 21 C8 10
"An attempt was made to execute an illegal instruction (exc.code c000001d, tid 7992)"
It is in the actual .dll that the .exe calls, not the .exe itself.
That's an AVX instruction, hence the failure for those of us without an AVX-capable CPU.
Searching the byte string, there are exactly 5 of them. Searching for only "66 0f 3a" yields way to many other AVX instructions, i.e.: Roundps

It very much strongly looks like we're (non-AVX machine Admins) going to have to put this one to the side, by Air design.

The news that looks like something MIGHT be able to be done about it is that these errors SO FAR, seem to be only involving debugging code! Can't say more until more is looked at.

Edit: Unfortunately, the Roundps instructions are part of the synthesis. When removed as well, the GUI opens, functions well, opens the keyboard and changes patches, but sound is not generated. It's the technical way of explaining that the only way this is going to get fixed is if Air alters their code to include non-AVX CPUs, as per Intel's documentation on how to include a switch.

In addition, Intel's words: "SSE and AVX that cannot be mixed without performance penalties"

So going by Intel's words, it seems that even including AVX instructions at all in any form introduces its own performance hit. Does AVX itself even make up for that?
