I had no idea Sonalksis still was an active developer? :O I thought they were basically legacy plug-ins that are still being sold by the company that bought Sonalksis after they disbanded/split-up.

They have some superb plug-ins though! IIRC, when the Sonalksis team split-up, some of them went on to work at Sonible (I think) and Dave Gamble founded DMG Audio. Most of the DSP in these plug-ins are Dave's.

didn't know Dave Gamble made these, still using them especially the stereo tool and filters.
It makes no sense to say you’re not good at it. It’s like saying, “I’m not good at being a monk.” You are either living as a monk or you’re not.

Yep. He made them, but he doesn't get paid for them any longer. I've only read Dave's side of things, but the head of Sonalksis seems like a very shady guy. The fact that they haven't come out with anything new or even made some major updates to the existing plug-ins gives you an idea of who was really doing all the work. Dave has literally said that Sonalksis/Sienda are selling warez!

The Gate is still excellent to this day. Very fast and very configurable. It's super tight and has got a few good modes to dial things in. The compressor SV-315 works well on some stuff but it's kind of subtle and hard to dial in (for me at least). Lagerfeld the mastering guru did some SSL type presets for it over at the Gearslutz forum. If he likes it it must be good. Probably surpassed by new tech now though.

Uber comp works well on some stuff, but doesn't seem to dial in on others. Not sure if their Free-G is included with this bundle but that's a great little utility fader/pan plugin that gets a lot of use. I think you can still get it free from the Sonalksis website anyway but pretty sure you might have to register.

I only bought a few plugins from them. Back in the day they were state of the art and expensive, like a couple hundred bucks a piece for the gate and comp and eq iiirc.

But when I went to install them again a couple of years back the bundle installer is buggy as hell and kept crashing. One of the worst plugin installers I've ever used. So I stopped using it and just use cracks of the ones I bought. I'm not sure if they have updated it now but it sure put me off buying any more plugins from them. They have also come down in price now, but the guis look dated and are small and lo-res on monitors most would be using today.

TL;DR -
The comp (315) and gate (719) are the stars of the show.
The comp doesn't work on everything but when it does, it sounds really nice - subtle but expensive.

fyi if doing clean install, ableton 11 (win10) didnt recognize the new install over old savings. new plugins do work fine, just the old saved rack templates have a empty plugin slot now. I know the ones I work with well enough that I can easily replace but maybe some other people be cautious and keep the old plugs too in case. I dont know if can have both at the same time.
