Soft Limit tape emulation - The secret Ingredient in Apogee Converters
Soft Limit has been an integral feature of Apogee converters since the AD-500, our first standalone A-D converter released in 1991. And now, for the very first time, this simple but highly effective analog tape emulation is available as a free audio plugin.

During development of the AD-500, we recognized that, while the new digital audio technology offered superior performance and lower distortion, the technical deficiencies of analog tape created a pleasing sound that engineers didn’t want to give up. And so Soft Limit was created, an analog circuit placed before the A-D conversion stage to gracefully round transients and add harmonic warmth.

Soft Limit has been a feature on pretty much every Apogee A-D converter since, from the AD-8000 to Symphony I/O to the latest Duet 3.

here is an explanation about my posting.

You have two versions of software, the first PPlink is version 1.0.10 and I didn't deleted it because of compatibility reasons, and second PPlink is updated version for both macOS and Windows and it is a v1.0.11.

I didn't want to make new POSTINGS to avoid spamming the forum, and that is the main reason I just changed the title and have uploaded new, updated version of software.

Anyway it is free, from Apogee :) Enjoy it :)

PS. Anyone who have been registered on their site for this VST, from your registered email, for every next update, or to check for an update by yourself, you can just use THE first time links provided, because they never send a notice about new updates, but every downloads for any new version is always the same \ under same link you have already got.

Not a single one of these apogee soft limit version rar files will transfer from my phone to my offline PC. Its so fucking weird. I've tried renaming all the different versions, unzipping them on my phone... Nothing works. It gets like 30%ish percent and then closes itself.

No antivirus software running

Odd. My audio PC, which is strictly offline (as in purposefully online-incapable,) running Win7Ult.x64, has never had a problem with phone transfers (Samsung A10s/S series.) Ironically, this includes the Soft Limit files, from both AZ and the legit site. It seems like it'd be an issue on your phone's end. despite the fact that they're successfully downloading onto your phone--are you trying to tranfer them to your PC via USB cable or bluetooth?

I was able to download, transfer and install from apogee's site using a USB cable

It was just a little strange because I had never had that issue before, but yes, I suspect the problem is with my phone

is it just me or does this mess with the stereo image? after bypassing the plugin it sounds more wider and defined as the stereo image isn't altered with. with the plugin on its a bit less wide or lacking in depth. great plugin i just wish that can be fixed in a update. its a extremely subtitle difference but to someone who has a good ear can pick it up

it works as dual-mono when limiting the signal, so I guess the reduced stereo widening depends on the source-material and the differences between the right and left channel and how much gain reduction takes place on either one

Im using Apogee interface for more than 10 years now, just realized that there is this Soft Limit feature on the preamp section, and I always turn it ON while recording. So, it's a Tape Emu...

I downloaded from Apogee and Windows version is at 1.0.11 but Mac version is still 1.0.10.
Gosh I would appreciate a changelog to know what they've changed. Regarding stereo image, it would be nice if they added a link channels button or even better a slider.

I compared .10 to .11 in PD side by side and couldn't find a single difference. GUI, levles, freqs, phase, harmonics, GR, all the same. Maybe just a compatibility fix.

And BTW, since they fixed those horrible phase twists in one of the recent versions, I started to like it.
