Qasar Beach Fairlight emulator [FREE] screenshot
EXE /APP/TAR| 43 MB
This is a complete recreation of the Fairlight CMI IIx.

This has all the features of the original Fairlight CMI including 16 stereo voices, full voice editing and real time control, harmonic additive synthesis, full Page R sequencer and much more.

Launched 1 year ago the 1.29g is the biggest update. which focuses on much better IIx import of voices, songs and instruments. Better III multisample .vc support. III style button bar and lots of UI improvements throughout. A new internal song system that matches the IIx, plus individual output mixing. New Midi keyboard allocation with PAGE 3, and so much more...

QasarBeach has also gained features that were planned for the IIx but not implemented (at the time) - many thanks for help and input from the original engineers and friends!

You get full file support for Fairlight Series I, II, IIx, III samples, including all loop points, filter settings, etc, plus new III multi-sample support. You just need to have the ORIGINAL files in .VC format.

IIx files .rs and .in are also supported

Plus you get the following formats as pure samples, so editing may be needed, but it gives you the power to access virtually all famous sample libraries from Emu, Yamaha, Korg and more:

You will need to download all three files, especially the Guide which will tell you all about the very basic operations of QasarBeach.

The Fairlight CMI was a professional and complex machine, QasarBeach in no way tries to obscure this operation. So the UI is the same, the operation is the same, but there have been additions to make it a bit more user friendly.

Here are some live video captures of QasarBeach with no overdubs or added effects:

There are four files:

QasarBeach.App: is the latest MacOS version

QasarBeachWIn: is the latest Windows version

QasarBeach.Tar: is the latest Linux version

Guide is the comprehensive PDF guide (shown on the right)

QasarBeach is the demo folder including demo and library files

Cookbook is a new PDF guide giving hints and recipes for getting more out of QasarBeach

It's a standalone software.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
This software is "pay what you want" so, please, if you like it give some dollars to the developer.
Also, I strongly recommend to visit developer's website to see more information and resources.[/b]

Superb!
Thanks Olymoon and AtomicID.
In theory, theory and practice are the same.
In practice, they're not.

Thanks Olymoon! There are more Libraries here: http://zine.r-massive.com/fairlight-cmi-iix-archive/. On page S settings, you can change to the Fairlight logo (center), enter the text F a i r l i g h t in top and C. M. I. in bottom for a more authentic index screen. I also use the sixth color green, turn the TV ouput on and I am there.

I've been using this for over a year now- I signed up for testing beta version, which is up to v1.35b now, I believe. Works in most cases, but I've had issues with the MIDI function even on my new laptop- but I'm told it may have to do with my KORG MIDI drivers. This version is the most 'functional' I've seen in a while.
Rock and Roll is not dead. It has simply evolved and metamorphosed over the years. Anyone who claims Rock and Roll is dead is deluding themselves.

In the peeplink there is a file called common (As for common for all OS), it contains the guide.

Thanks for this one.
How does it compare to Arturia's CMI-v?

The first difference is that it's not a vst. Standalone only.
About the sound, I can't tell, I've not compared.

QB is for those want an authentic experience. Arturia's version has better presets but the interface is far from the original. Sadly QB has no plugin for DAWs.

Didn't they use an E-Mu Emulator (Emax) ?
  Resident 28.04.2012 19 1587

They did. But later. First time Emulator I on "Construction Time Again", Emulator II on "Some great Reward", EMax I on "Black Celebration" and "Music for the masses" and EMax II on "Violator".
But as they told in an documentary Daniel Miller had a Fairlight which they used on Speak & Spell" and "A Broken Frame".

When you look fast enough, you can see Martin has made a joke by having a fake Fairlight on stage by just having a box standing on top of his regular synth with the name "Fairlite" made of duct tape at the famous Hammersmith Odeon Concert in 1982.

Nice!
Arturia's Fairlight emulator software is great,
but this looks to be the rawest of some old school sampler fun.
Thanks Olymoon! Special thanks to AtomicID for that great resource page!

Oh I see I got it.

So, I farted around with this for a while, but I have some kind of clock issue. All my sounds were pretty mangled and distorted. A serious Back to the Future experience, that I've realized I'm not in a hurry to get back to with this emulator.
Kidding. I'll probably kill myself trying to get it to work like it's 1985 this weekend.
