Reborn through software.Music Workstation M1
The M1, released in 1988, is an epoch-making synthesizer that defined the music scene of the late 80’s and the 90s. Its synthesis system with digital multi-effects, based on high-quality PCM, featured a unique sound which was epoch-defining. In addition, as the original music workstation “all-in-one unit”, it came with an 8-track sequencer, drastically changing the composing and production style of musicians everywhere.

The KORG Collection M1 V2 is an upgrade of the M1 software from 2005, and has been refined for modern production environments. We added the much requested high-resolution and scalable interface. The preset sounds include all 3,300 programs, including those from the expansion ROM cards, giving the legendary sounds of the M1 through the latest software as a plug-in.

Thank you so much for all these kind classic Korg gifts DECiBELLE and Ret on my Birthday. I personally think the house piano sound preset on the M1 is one of the sharpest, clear and tight piano sounds ever created , even in this modern age.

Yeah, that piano is famous, but the depth of this instrument goes several miles deeper. It can do fat bass, smooth pads and fairly realistic ROMpler sounds due to its synthesis architecture and the genius of the Korg engineers who made this masterpiece in something like a couple of Megs of ROM.

The FX section is not too shabby either. Couple that with the fact it is 8-Part multi-timbral so that is handy for people that use that kind of functionality, or you can just stack the 8 sounds on top of each other in Combo mode and have a massive sound stack to play with.

And the cherry on the otherwise delicious cake is the fact that it also contains some very nice and usable drum sounds. Many well paired kits and percussion sounds. They work well together and provide some classic as well as slightly unusual sounds.

And the cherry on the cherry, is the fact that you get ALL the ROM cards included that cost a pretty penny back in the day, just for one! Well, just about everyone ever made up is there at a click of your mouse on the front panel. Drums, ROMplers, Keys, Synths...

And if you can find the time to just invest even an hour or two, the easy editing facilities on the GUI will reward you in spades. Any sound you come up with can then be quickly tweaked for more or less attack/decay - bit more/less reverb - bit more bite or bit less bite from the filter.

In fact, the Wavestation did not even have a resonant filter built in to the hardware itself. But Korg engineers made one up and included it in these masterpieces, the new Wavestation specifically.

I've owned the Legacy collection for a long time. I've owned the MS-20 hardware for a few years. They really are about the best emulations of hardware around. I need to upgrade because I want the Triton VSTs, but I will buy them in the next year or two.

I'm a little bit short of cash, because I've been going mad buying Korg Volcas (Drum was my last purchase) and getting deep in to the Volca Samples, of which I own two different versions, one running Pajen's Firmware upgrade. I've spent weeks studying how to slice samples and get them to play back perfectly at different tempos - a real monster for Drum and Bass.

For me, Korg lead the pack ahead of Roland and Yamaha. They still have many faults, but they make great sounding keyboards and drums and fx with bells and whistles you don't find on much other gear. My Minilogue XD is my most prized posession. Hybrid Analog/Digital with the ability to load even FM oscillators in to it. Insane.

I'm testing out all this new Korg software, but like I said, I think an upgrade to the full Legacy suite will be coming from my end in the next 18 months or so.

Truthfully don't know why you guys bother with Cubase- I could never get it to play well with VSTs, so I stopped using it when FL Studio and Ableton Live came along.
Rock and Roll is not dead. It has simply evolved and metamorphosed over the years. Anyone who claims Rock and Roll is dead is deluding themselves.
