AcouFiend simulates the acoustic feedback (a.k.a "Larsen effect") well known to guitarists playing loud and close to their speaker... Except that here, you have total control over the effect.

You can choose when and how to trigger the feedback, on sustained notes or chords. The plug-in lets you select the main harmonic of the feedback, and you can even choose to transpose it for more creative effects.

Of course, it can be entirely automated or controlled via MIDI.

And since it is a plug-in, it is not just for guitars: create screaming synths, sustained vocal harmonies and more...

Same era. I had a SC Pro One and would loop the audio out into a hardware PCM70, then back into the Pro One. By sweeping the cut off I would get these amazingly lush reverb moans and shimmers. I used those things on a lot of films.

Got to say that there has been a feedback plugin for years, made by Softube.
I've not tried the Bluecat offering yet but I can say that the Softube works pretty well, and not just on guitars. And.. it's right here: https://audioz.download/software/win/185002-download_softube-acoustic-feedback-v259-r2r.html

From the demo videos, the softtube one does seem a bit more versatile and clever. The bluecat one seems more like just a tone?

good looking out on the softube one! i was struggling with the blue cat stuff just for the feedback (which led me to this page for it separated) - i already have the softube one i just forgot about it. the first world problems of pirating vst's. just swapped the softube in, i'm getting the desired wailing sound i was going for.
