DSEQ is getting better and better so fast! Thomas and the team must be busting their asses (or fingers) coding Glad I bought it instead of Soothe2 now that I've had the chance to test Soothe for awhile. CS-5501 is another gem and my go-to channel strip.

In principle it works like any dynamic auto-EQ based on compression (like Thimeo AutoEQ, Voxengo TEOTE, etc.) except for that it only does gain reduction.
Such EQ-ing has its inherent problems, consisting mainly of several types of non-linearities, harshness and fluctuations in dynamic domain being the most prominent. Compression also introduces some additional quantization errors. So real quality improvements may be in reducing such non-linearities (it is not remotely possible to avoid them completely) which requires great skill and invention. As far as I know, Thimeo has introduced several unique workarounds in that respect.
So upgrading happens mostly in GUI (as in this case), presets, more setting features and hence more user control. But really precise settings are hard to achieve in this type of EQ-ing.
