FREE | 29 October 2020 | 77.4 MB
Here is big brother of "BUSTER" with tons of improvements and new features!
Classic console compressor with extra Filter and Transient sidechain options to dominate whole signal!

FEATURES
STEREO COMPRESSOR : Compressor Section
FLT : Filter Section
TR : Transient Section
CONTROL : Control section

Compressor Section
- THRESHOLD (dB) : +15 to -15
- ATTACK (ms) : 0.1, 0.3, 1, 3, 10, 30
- RELEASE (sec) : 0.1, 0.3, 0.6, 1.2, Auto
- RATIO : 1.5, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10
- MAKE UP (dB) : 0 to 15
- MIX (%) : DRY to WET

Filter Section (Sidechain)
- HPF (Hz) : 20 to 500
- MID (~1500Hz) : -6dB to +6dB
- HF (~10kHz) : 0dB to -10dB *Will work like famous optical-tube compressor and help you to control high frequencies, better.

Transient Section (Sidechain)
- BOOST (dB) : 0 to 10 *While boosting attack, it will reduce decay/release of signal to make compressor more sensitive with only attacks/peaks.
- TILT (~1kHz Center) : -6dB to 6 dB *It's placed before BOOST to send only dedicated range to BOOST. So, BOOST will affect only given frequency range and will boost only this range's transients. If TILT is default, BOOST will affect overall transients.
- MIX (%) : DRY to WET *Will blend DRY and WET signal. After boosting transients, you can blend with DRY signal to keep reduced release of signal. When MIX in default position, TR is off. So, you can turn MIX knob to all the way up to engage TR section.

*EXT (External Sidechain) : When you engage EXT, sidechain circuit will listen incoming signal and you can stil use Filter and Transient sections on incoming signal.

Control Section
- MAIN : General Bypass
- TURBO : Turbo Mod *Turbo mod will help to compressor to affect whole signal range. Otherwise, compressor will focus on mid frequencies. This mod added to keep original sign of hardware.
- XFORMER : In/Out Transformers *If you engage XFORMER, in/out ICs will be replaced with transformer to balance it. This will affect to impedance, character, overall sound...

*Ableton Live OSX users must use VST version.

Changelog:

Version 1.1
- Fixed Attack/Release response

Excellent compressor, did a test side by side with Acustica Audio Sand Comp.. strangely, to me it sounded the same or better... I really wanted to hear other opinions.

It can be anything but not what it's trying to emulate. Don't get your hopes high. Take it what it is. Yes I have other emulations as well as hardware.

Ok, Samsam.
So I understand you have the hardware, nice! I don't, and all I have to compare are plugins... of course real hardware will sound better. Wich emulation do you think it's the closest to it? Have you tried Sand?

Anyway, I still think, that this is an excellent compressor, whatever it is.

I have GSSL hardware. Turbo button does not affect MID freq. (as misspelled in the plugin explanation) but stereo summing. Original GSSL merges the internal LR channels into a mid channel and the turbo board mod corrects this, so the compressor works as SSL, it also compresses the side channel. Anyone who has done this plugin obviously doesn't know what the original compressor looks like at all.

Ok, first note that none sounds like real but can be close and sound good. Even the SSL Native Bus comp doesn't sound like the real. People have done side by side comparison and concluded that not one picked the actual ssl hardware!!

Now let's just make it easy for us to understand the issue. SSL buss compressor is famous for gluing the mix and is vastly used for this purpose. So this characteristic will be our benchmark in further discussion. In case of Buster, I immediately deleted it and if I recall, it distorts the mid frequencies in a very unpleasant way, sounds thin and squashed. Frankly, the developer tried to emulate the real thing and somewhat succeeded. When the real unit is pushed hard, it monoizes the mix a lot as the focus is more in the middle then starts to distort. The hardware does a great job at keeping the middle and most SSL plugins don't. Buster goes to the extent of monoizing the sound and distortion but destroys the mix with harsh frequencies.

That's why I said earlier that don't think about ssl, just use it if you find some use of it. But remember what works for me may not work for you and vice versa. You like Buster, great!

There are loads of emulations available that do the "alright gluing" job, I don't even remember all. Regarding Sand. yes I do have Sand. Sand is very usable but not forgiving. When works, the panoramic image of the sound is astounding and the mix will sound fuller. Watch for pumping and adjust the volume sliders. I bought many Acustica plugins on impulse. Their El Rey and Ultramarine are awesome for smoothing too. They all work well but I regret investing so much money in them.

Back to the topic, The Glue is another good one. People on Gearslutz rave about DMG Audio Trackcomp which also emulates other compressors like Mu and API 2500 apart from ssl. I demoed it and it also does the job very very well but like all plugins it also inherited the harsh highs. TimP L-Bus for Nebula sounds GREAT and so close that you will probably stop looking elsewhere. I don't have Waves but used UAD's which was awesome too however their old version was pretty underwhelming. Some say good thing about Hornet's MultiComp. I don't own it as well. But my ssl plugin journey is over after I found PA Townhouse. This is one of the best plugin even though it is not the direct emulation of ssl but one of it's clone's. It's lighter on resources too. PA Townhouse really did a great job capturing the feel and grabbiness and saturation of the Townhouse unit. Lastly, please note you don't have to agree with me on anything though but I would suggest to demo PA Townhouse. Like always YMMV. Hope you find my observations useful.

Thank you for taking your time to answer.
I really took all you said in consideration, and did a new round of comparison tests, including your suggestion, the PA Townhouse and The Glue.
To make the story short, I ended up buying Sand in a promo that just ended today.
Thank you again for opening my eyes to some aspects I didn't take into account.

Great choice. Glad I was of some help. I am sure you already know that keeping the pres on provides that ssl vibe. Cheers

I agree. For me only cytomic glue works alongside the hardware compressors.

Still, nice GUIs, but hit or miss sound. Usually miss. YMMV.

When I need a bus comp, I usually go for The Glue, Klanghelm DC8C, DMG TrackComp, or Voxengo Marquis compresor. Those are sure shot.
