I like the Portable because it keeps your Quickload directory inside, and I have it in a "DAW progs Port" folder on my "Studio" drive.
That way, each time I back up my studio drive the Quickload folder gets backed up too.
So, any project looking for something SHOULD find it, since all presets (including Quickload shortcuts) are backed up at the same time.

Of course the relevant Libraries must be where the database looks for them. So you can use the folder provided inside the portable folder, to have libraries on the same drive to be automatically found by Kontakt Portable.

You can also add other paths on other portable drives, of course, so one might take a large external drive along with Kontakt.
In the end I made a Portable Win10 DAW 500G SSD drive, partitioned for OS and "Studio". The reason for partitioning is for backup and restore.
Truly portable things go on the "Studio" partition (or drive), and things that rely on the registry stay on the OS drive.
Some I SymLink, if they do not involve too many folders in various locaions.

Doesn't work for me, got Blacklisted by Cubase... When I deleted tried to add my old Portable folder that doesn't work either now. Hep with this would be appreciated...

Cubase always blacklists 2/3 dll's from the Portable version but it's always worked here. How many are getting blocked for you? Did you try to load an instance of Kontakt anyway? If true that might make the fake release more plausable i guess.

This happened to me too. It seems Cubase blacklists this plugin if you place it inside a protected folder like "C:\Program Files\" (before the first start). I've moved the portable installation out of it, removed the blacklisted entry from cubase, added the new VST2 scan directory to Cubase and everything worked fine.

It also seems that after you have successfully started this plugin once in Cubase you can move the directory to "C:\Program Files\" again and you won't have any issues with blacklisting again.

I'm quite sure you're confusing with the installer version where they in fact talk of a fake release. The portable version gets high praise so I'm guessing it's fine.

If 6.4.2 full version is fake then this portable version should be fake too. Create empty patch, save and pick for load, at the bottom left it shows patch version, if it shows 6.4.0.038 etc this release is fake.

That portable version is made by vkdanilov, the fake full release of 6.4.2 was made by Bob Dule.

This version is properly cracked, and batch resave intruments to 6.4.2.

Regarding Quickload:
I can recommend using Total Commander for easy creating symlinks from any Kontakt instrument folder.
- Open the Quickload folder where you have installed your portable Kontakt on the left pane in TC.
- You might want to categorise things by creating different Quickload folders like Strings / Spitfire etc.
- Browse trough your Kontakt libs on the right pane and select the Instruments (or whole instrument folder) that you want to appear in Kontakt's Quickload.
- Click Control & Shift and drag these instruments to the left pane. Done!

But I would like to know if there really is a difference between having Kontakt installed or using the portable version, since although I notice a difference only in loading from Finale, that does not worry me if its functionality is 100% but if not, I would like to know. To make the decision to install it if this is going to benefit me substantially. Thank you.

Im no expert but i've been using the portable version for a few years now and never had any issues. Functionality-wise there is absolutely no difference, no limitations. It works the same as normal installed Kontakt version. Personally i never noticed a difference in loading times either and if so its very minimal but like i said im no expert. I still have Kontakt 5 installed normally (for personal reasons) and Kontakt 6 Portable Version at the same time, which is nice. Portable Version allows you to have multiple Kontakt versions installed at the same time. Plus you can easily update the portable version. No hassle at all. Hope that was somehow helpful

Portable version is great for those new libraries that don't work with my Kontakt 5.5.2 which I still use. For personal reasons. You get best of both worlds, kinda.

Seriously? I'm still using v5.8, predominatly, as only a few of my libraries require v6.x,, plus, I still have more than a handful of tracks associated with v5. That name change that v6 introduced that altered the address location kinda screwed me.

I use Kontakt 5.5.2 for making my own libraries, sort of, well I use it as a sampler - to make my own sounds, and the newest version as a rompler/sample bank player. There's not much new in Kontakt 6 regarding using it as a sampler, and it's less stable, uses more memory [and it's uglier looking IMO lol]. The best thing is - I can export any WAV that I like from 6 to 5... it's a killer combination! [for me :)]

Kontakt is really THE sampler. 5.5.2 is actually not that old. Last Battery 4 is from about the same time and use same VC++ 2013. NI changed quite a bit since. They sacked a lot of people, stopped doing so much software, and their software turned into bloatware. I guess they sacked a lot of great programmers, or they just left. :( I would really like to know the whole story.

Just wanted to mention that you don't have to use portable to have Kontakt 5 and 6 simultaneously.

Not trying to argue or sway anyone either way, it just came across as you were saying needing 5 was your "reason" for using portable version, so I was just pointing out that that's not necessary.

But it seems there is no real crack of Kontakt 6.4.2 full version out yet. [?]
