ONE KNOB TO RULE THEM ALL

Saturation Knob is the analog sounding, simple to use, yet versatile way of adding some sweet distortion to your tracks. The knob itself controls the amount of saturation, and there are three different distortion characteristics to choose from by flicking the switch.
Use it to fatten up bass lines, add some harmonics and shimmer to vocals, or simply destroy your drum loop.

One big knob and a little switch
The three modes, Keep High, Neutral and Keep Low give you three kinds of characters of distortion. If you want to squash a drum loop but keep the bass drum fairly intact, you can for example use the Keep Low mode, while Keep High distorts the low end more, keeping the high frequencies relatively clean.

With the switch set to Neutral, the entire frequency spectrum of the sound gets distorted when you turn up the Saturation knob. Put it on Keep Low, and the saturation will mainly affect the lower part of the frequency spectrum, while the top end stays clear. Conversely, with Keep High selected, the low end will retain its clear sound and instead only the treble parts of the sound will get distorted. This makes a wide variety of distortion characteristics available to you.

System requirements
Mac OS X 10.12 or newer (older OS versions may work but are not tested).
Windows 64-bit, versions 7, 8 or 10.
Intel Core 2 Duo, AMD Athlon 64 X2 or newer.
Screen resolution 1280x800 or larger.
8 GB RAM or more is recommended, as well as at least 8 GB hard disk space for installation (individual plug-ins take less space, while sample libraries may require additional disk space. Specific information available on each instrument's page).
Softube account.
iLok account.
Internet access for downloading installer and managing licenses.
iLok generation 2 and up, if you intend to use an iLok dongle for authorizing your plug-ins (note that an iLok dongle is not a requirement).
In theory, any 64-bit VST, VST3, AU, or AAX (11.0.2 or higher) compatible host application should work.

However, due to plug-in host differences between DAWs - and our own rigorous testing standards - we only officially test our plug-ins and instruments in the most recent versions of Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Cubase, Live, Studio One, Digital Performer, Reaper and Sonar. Softube plugins are not tested in the non-listed systems, but they most likely work as long as the system requirements are met. We cannot guarantee a solution for issues in unsupported systems.

Please Note: Softube plug-ins support 64-bit hosts only, and a 64-bit OS is required. Therefore, for example, Pro Tools 10.x is no longer supported (contact support for latest 32-bit compatible instalers).

Supported sample rates: 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4 and 192 kHz, in both mono and stereo.

The most recent maintenance release of the DAW application is recommended.

You need to register your plugin on the site. It seems like you should have an iLOK account

I am rather reluctant to use software with 'dog in a blanket' controls. 'Three different distortion characteristics to choose from' doesn't say almost anything useful. The control you get over any of those functions in none, just less or more - take it or leave it.

Agree, but still it is one of the best saturators in the market and it is free of course

HaHa!! You must be a schooled and seasoned pro audio engineer who is strictly accustomed to working with other schooled and seasoned engineers because "Keep More Of The Highs" OR "Don't Alter The Tonal Characteristics" OR "Keep More Of The Lows" says a WHOLE LOT to me. HaHa!! Especially when I've been up working on a recording and mixdown for 8 hours straight, micro-tweaking and over-thinking a respectable amount of the time. Ha!!

For me, often the exquisite charm of a particular plugin lies in its SIMPLICITY and MINIMALIST design.

Of course it's gotta SOUND good FIRST. Hee Hee!!

I'm a SONAR user and this gem from Softube comes bundled into the built-in control strip in SONAR that is called "ProChannel". I use this warmth-inducing saturator on EVERY project in some capacity.

actually finalmaster i was thinking to make a note here anyway, of how much i have loved this tool.
with so many tools now that try to 'multi'-everything, its still an option to do our EQ, dynamics, and coloration separately right? so where i already have a nice EQ that i like for a track, and say a nice matchup of compression and limiting, its real nice to have such a clean tool for adding saturation to taste. i could type a couple other names that work great too. but this ones pretty clean, unless you want a little squish. it can give a little of that too

My point comes from the fact that I measure each plugin with testing equipment in order to find the 'sweet spot' - the best THD, amplitude linearity, dynamic linearity, harmonic spread, IM and TIM distortion, etc. ratio for each setting. With fixed presets you just can not do that (i.e. tweak).
And my experience says that my ears always comply with the technical 'sweet spot".
For this plugin I can only say that is has a very high overall THD, the best amplitude linearity is on 'neutral' position. The plugin uses considerable amount of compression. With saturation button higher than the 'first position' on the left nonlinearity rises rather quickly (which is quite understandable, but a bit too steep in my opinion).

um... ever heard of parallel compression
  Member 21.12.2018 518

It doesn't matter if it is upward compression or not. I just stated that the plugin uses a 'considerable amount of compression'.
The make-up gain is ~24 dB. THD level is close to -5 dB at max. knob position.
Just the facts.
Personally, I prefer the things clean, and do not approve saturation that much.

People think that when it's free, it's not so good
But it's a great plugin, easy, quick to use, and the result is just beautiful.
What else... Perfect for me !

Thank you very much Strike for everything you do
for us and for AZ

I noticed the bio is switched around a bit.

says "keep low", keeps low end intact and the second paragraph its says Keep low distorts the low end. I know you did't type this but I was just pointing it out Lol.

This is nice yet I have to go with the Focusing Equalizer from softube. Just pushing the saturation on that one sounds waaaaayyy better. Just give it a low level and dont let it show red. A strong flavor in a signal chain for me.

What is this "Focusing Equalizer" you are talking about, please?
Because I don't know any of their plugin named like that.

Yeah I don't understand developers who make plugins without a "level Out" slider.Especially with a distortion plugin.

I used to use this baby a lot but lost the free installer. On the older version you didn't need an iLok or to register as far as I remember (I don't have an iLok) and it still worked great. Is this a newer update or something?

You need to register your plugin on the site. It seems like you should have an iLOK account

Very clear info indeed....and is this "not so certain" registering step the only update from the old v2.4.17 or something new was added?
Free as a bird......
BTW....Studio One refuses to scan it........how to register?

Thanks for the share but I also don't want anything that involves Gobbledygook (or whatever it's called) and other online kerfuffle.

I still use this version and it works a charm, all offline & patched:

Hi! Unfortunately the plugin is not working for me in both Logic and Ableton on macOS 12.16.3.
