When you’re mixing or mastering music, sometimes you may find yourself in a situation where you need to manipulate the audio in a way that falls outside the realms of what a conventional plugin can do, and with this in mind SoundSpot set out to create a plugin that can solve this problem.

Introducing the Axis... The Axis is a combination of two of their most popular plugins, the MSW1 & Propane with the addition of a brand new upwards and downwards compressor that is capable of dual directional compression which can be both subtle and brutal. But it doesn’t end there! We’ve made the whole unit multiband, for complete control over the incoming signal, allowing you to manipulate the audio to get punch, clarity, groove or sparkle without the need to load up a huge number of individual plugins.

The Axis linear phase has been made to be lightweight, so go wild... The only limit is your imagination.

Features:
+ Intuitive, easy to navigate user interface.
+ Designed to work flawlessly with touch controllers such as the Raven by Slate Media.
+ Multiband Layout
+ Individual Compressor, Imager & Metering module per band
+ Simultaneous Upwards & Downward compression
+ Parallel Compression mixing
+ Mid Side Panning
+ Mono Maker
+ Stereo Widener
+ Individual Band Anti Pop Bypass
+ Individual Band Isolation Mode
+ Preset Manager with new preset scrub through feature

Are soundspot plugins garbage?

I say, no.

"SoundSpot Focus," was a plug-in that seemed to rub people up the wrong way. It's design encapsulates an interesting Mastering technique not commonly heard of, or discussed. Many people did not like the plug-in. People complained about phase issues. I argue that if people understood a little more about that Mastering technique, such as, the routing, the FX chain and the technique's purpose, people may have used the plug-in "correctly," so-to-speak. It is not a "creative" plug-in. The technique is supposed to be used subtly. I have no idea if SoundSpot market their plug-in in that fashion though. If not, it could be one of their downfall's regarding the sales of that plug-in and the experiences people are having when using the plug-in.

The description sounds like hot shit. "look at this plugin, it's so different from anything else! it can do upwards compression! it has an imager and a multiband option!" lmao. If ever there was a plugin that deserves to be pirated it's this.

Seen and heard a demo of it and It's probably one of their better plugins by far. Haven't gotten a chance to personally run it through the paces and check for critical flaws, but it's fundamentally a nicely featured multi-band compressor/expander, at a damn good price.

Hmmm, this is pretty bad! Dont use this on your master it ll destroy your track completely! Next to that; The 'result' in the video sounds soooo much worse then the original XD

Thanks for pirating this plugin. If people are going to buy this they ll be ripped off...

Looking forward to trying this out as I haven't used any soundspot plugins before. They nailed it when they said "intuitive, easy to navigate user interface" and thats always a huge +1 for me I like to work quick. Hopefully its not cpu hungry and doesn't need much if any delay compensation. Thanks for upload!

Every single SoundSpot plugin released so far has timebombed. These are all Demo versions. Anyone else had this issue?

Looks pretty good to me - the bass definitely was a lot better after treatment, and the drum treatment was pretty interesting.

But the most impressive thing seems to the UI - it's all just right there. Don't think I'd put it on the master, but I think it'd be great for treating individual sounds - making them sit where you want - or bringing them out etc.

I don't see any option to choose that. I had installed all the ones Talula had released prior and every single one says Trial period has ended. Anyone other suggestions?

Only from watching the demo I can see some unnecessary complicated things.
- why can't you link solo function and the specific band you edit
- why no make up gain at the compressor page (always dialing in mono and stereo makeup gain is so painful)
- why no global output page with imaging, compression and metering?

Also the stereo tools provided are rudimentary. I can't really see a benefit in this plugin as there are many other alternatives that handle the very same thing 100 times better I think.

But nevertheless thanks for sharing and letting us try it out!

I had to tool around with this to see if it was a Push-One-Button-Done type gizmo, just out of morbid curiousity. I'm unsure how I feel about it.
I think it's good for someone who is just diving into mixing/mastering to have a user-friendly (okay, slightly dumbed-down,) plugin to get the general idea of what multiband compression, etc. is/does...but, I also want to be an asshole and tell people to suck it up and learn to use multiple plugins of higher quality in the first place, even if they do have a slightly steep learning curve to them. Instant gratification is not the point of mixing/mastering. You don't have to sweat blood to produce a final, quality master, but your hands should be dirty.
(As for the comment on how Axis ruins your master...if it ruined your master, "MyMom," maybe it's a user error; stranger things have happened. ;)
I can't actually badmouth Axis (unlike like some of Soundspots laughably bad plugins,) but, if you're serious about learning how to produce quality music, I do recommend starting with plugins that you'll most likely be using yrs down the line. (LeakedNoise kinda nailed it.)
This plugin is basically training wheels--free is a fair price for it.
I'll stick with McDSP, iZotope, etc., for my projects.
Thanks for the upload, Talula.
