What if they said we try to model the amps as closely as we can but some of our competitors do a better job? :).
I say when you use the tonematch funktion you can get really close to some recorded sound i did it with a Petrucci sound with the Measa MKIIC+
It was close but they not their yet
NO amp modeling is accurate not even Kemper and they is said to be the one who is most close.
I dont know about that statement either as some amps is better modelled by Fractal or even Helix so i guess it what suites the modelling method best that is whats counts just go to Kemper forum and see you will find comments like my Kemper sound so digital nothing like a real amp bla bla the same goes with Fractal and Helix in Helix case more often than the other two that is beacuse i Helix they dont cut frequences on the cab so all fizziness is very present.

S-gear have a good Marshall sound but frankly i never understood the hype of this ampsim i.m.o Revalver and TH3 is better sounding for my type of sound and also Thermionik.

With that said some years ago i did a test where i compared all my ampsim running thrue the same IR

All ampsim had the same setting 12" o clock everything was turned off "if i could" so it was the PURE ampsound that was tested and they all sounded pretty similar.

Some had more gain some sounded cleaner on the same setting.
But they all capture the fingerprint of the amp they moddeled
And if i would i sure could dial them in so they sounded very close to eachother.
I did put up links so everyone who said this and that ampsim sound so much better could dl and even listen on the dl page and ask them to answer if they could pick out their favourite ampsim.
NOBODY answered or tried to say which is which why?
The answer is of course they couldnt pick out their favourite one in a blindtest

Exactly. In ampsim world, I say it's all about cabs. I use OwnHammer cabs and so far I'm satisfied

Hmm, well I mentioned S-Gear as being MUCH BETTER than Bias, not always the best for everyone else. Yeah I like Revalver too, but nothing 'plays' like S-Gear, and it's a simpler sim but you can put stuff like the TS-808 core before the wayfarer (for example) and it sounds and feels more like a real amp doing hi gain than Bias Amp does (Bias sounds nasal, cheap and FX like).

For me S-Gear remains at the top still because of a very good, if basic, quality (like a real amp) that works very well with 'pedal' and compressor plugs in before it in your DAW.

1. S-Gear
2. Revalver
3. Helix (for fun/Fx and decent sound too) - if sounds fizzy run a 10k lopass filter BEFORE the sim

(TBH I do that anyway with my guitar sims I run softube tonelux with a 6db lowpass @ around 10k and sometimes a softube CL1b compressor on the audio insert or before the sim), the above 3 feel the best to play (inspiring) and imo have the overall best sound, it has to be a combination of both not just feel or sound, BOTH! And S-Gear just wins there for me.

I'd be happy with just the above 3, each has its strenghts... then everything else below those 3... starting with

4. Amplitube 4 (only some - like mesa and fender 2 which are good - the rest sounds cheap and has similar problems to Bias)

then further down for me would be Bias (maybe at 6 or 7?)

I tried overloud once and didn't take to it but may give it another shot some time. And I can't stand the fugly interfaces on thermionik and the 'cheap crap'

Thank you, ilfsn, and P2P - I enjoy this amp sim very much, and find that each company's amp sims do different things better or differently than each other. No physical amp (if the speakers are identical) are meant to be run at 12:00 - it isn't a fair test, for either sims or analog amps. They are meant to be tweaked according to the guitar signal (tone settings, volume, type of pick-ups, and pick-up position), and all of these things and more (guitar string type, pick type, amp tube selection, etc.), and will not present their true "voice" until these adjustments are made.
Amp sims have come so far in the last ten years - amazing, really. I got my first guitar and practice amp in 1966, and have played just about every type of guitar and amp - and these 'sims' are getting so good, it is often difficult - or impossible (if they are set up properly) to tell the difference between my old analog amps, and these digital versions. I still, though, love the smell of hot tubes, and the imperfections inherent in even the same models, but individual heads (because of the soldering, the capacitors, the wiring, etc.,) of analog amps.
But these simulations: I just love experimenting with them all, and am grateful for the chance to do so. Please keep them coming - and I thank you all for each one - the companies who work so hard developing and improving them, the groups who allow us the chance to try them, and this site, and the people who make it all happen.
Just one in 7 billion. Here and gone.
