This is pretty confusing to activate (the software doesn't even tell you whether you're in demo mode or not, stuff like that...), but I think I got it (on Win7 x64).
Didn't help that Team CORE hasn't provided detailed instructions in their NFO. It's like gambling when you don't know which steps you have to do when.
So I got this from an NFO of an earlier release by CORE (DirectorSuite v3), to gather some information before installing (see Spoiler)

Note that the release of v3 obviously included some kind of patch (see 9.), v5 doesn't, so I ignored steps 8, 9 and 10.
I had to apply the activation (steps 4 to 7) for PowerDirector, PhotoDirector and (if I recall correctly) ColorDirector, the others seem to be activated automatically afterwards.

One more IMPORTANT note:
Don't get fooled by number 4 of the instructions in the Spoiler above! It says "Import any .mkv file ...", that's not correct. Maybe it was for v3 but it's not for this version. Make sure that it is an .mkv file encoded in h265/HEVC!
This is due to the demo limitations (quote: Importing and producing H.265 video files is not available)
So you're only (!) getting the activation dialog when you're importing an .mkv file in h265/HEVC. This is also the best way to check if you're still in demo mode or not, try to import that file to all the apps, even PhotoDirector (use VideoToPhoto)!
If you're not sure if you got the correct .mkv file, go to http://www.h265files.com/ and grab that short "AustrianAlps" example file encoded in h265/HEVC.

Thanks, but no thanks. The install is a behemoth anyway. I'll stick with my paid version of Edius 8.

Well, if you already own Edius then there's probably not too much you'll miss with this DirectorSuite.
