From a very long time, this wonderful and versatile machine was used by a lot of well know artists and musicians, from a long time now, it is waiting by a lot of computer users to be part of their sound arsenal.

The XILS V+ combines a Vintage 10 band Vocoder, Supreme Top Octave Divider based Strings and Human Voices, or any sophisticated layering of these three elements.

After more than one year of intense modeling deep in the basement of the Xils Laboratories, we offer you this complete recreation of a legend. Its unique vintage vibe and beauty that can only be brought back to life by precisely emulating different ancient and forgotten techniques.

T.O.D : The Top Octave Divider Oscillator provides a unique sound that no samples, or other simple synthesis techniques can reproduce. Emulating the T.O.D, without any aliasing on the whole frequency range, with its pitch and waveform modulation, was a real challenge, worthy of XILS-lab. We are very proud of this effort and offer it to you for your inspiration and enjoyment.

XILS-lab touch : The XILS V+ would not however be a real XILS-lab instrument if we did not add a lot of functions and possibilities that were not present in the original machine, some giving access to its internal circuitry and parameters. And some being totally new.

"T.O.D and Beyond", following the Analog and Beyond tradition XILS-lab initiated a long time ago.

Not sure if this is a true iLok/eLicenser crack or simply the C.E. version of the synth. Either way its cool, and definitely not complaining :) Thanks for the share Team V.R.

Oh man, I don't wanna complain or anything, but that was one of the worst installations I've ever come across.

Not knocking anyone, thank you very much V.R for letting us try this, but jeez the installer is a mess.

I had to drag all the files out of the Windows folder and put them in proper places in Program Files.

Had to edit registry to point to the new place where it was located, inside my plugins folder. Sorted and all.

Then had to rename XILS V+.dll to XILS V+ FX.dll
And XILS V+ Inst.dll to XILS V+.dll

The first is the FX version, so you can process your external stuff through the vocoder section.

Whilst the second is the synth itself.

There was a double version of the FX, one located in the installed preset folder and one in the plugins folder. One of them you can delete.

Left the two XilsFiles32.dll files in Windows and Windows/System.

Renamed the manual. Moved the uninstallation files into Xils-Lab Program Files folder. And made Start Menu shortcuts to it all.

I agree the Installation is just totally messed up. Any way to make the installation in my Vst plugins folder instead of the default location?

Just move the stuff manually. You gotta go to Local Machine in registry, find Xils, and inside is V+, edit the installation folder key, to your new location.

The location of that folder is usually inside the plugins folder. It's the one with the presets for the synth.

Win XP 32 bit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\XILS-lab\XILS V+

yeah i used to have a tidy installation d/audio & d/audio/64/vst/ but since all these ilock releases it's a mess, I guess there is a reason you can't change them during instal. Moving the vst is easy but im afraid to move the main installation. I am now starting to run out of space on my ssd.

It's fine to move anything you want. These guys aren't as finicky as some other companies, where anything moved immediately breaks everything.

The main thing it is looking for in the registry is the "XILS V+" folder. The one filled with all the presets. (The .prt and .ini files)

I put my synth version of the plugin inside that folder and then simply pointed my registry to that folder. That's the key. Otherwise, the synth doesn't work or have any presets.

For V+ the installation dumped the files into my Windows folder.

For the other plugs in the Xils line, the installation dumped them into my Shared Documents folder.

Besides, the plugin crashes my cubase pro 8.5.15 no matter what

End of story, trash. I've got much better alternatives.

Actually my friend there are no better alternatives to this, unless you get the MKI or MK2 original VPP-330.

It's one of the most well emulated plugins, quality wise. I tested it, it works well in other hosts, maybe try that.

The installation is a mess and you have to fix it up and edit the registry, but once all that is done, it works like a charm.

Really good plugin overall. It's got one of the best synth strings on the market.

I'm a heavy user of vocoders and I agree with Yabiss that there are better alternatives out there. In fact I've found and used better synth edit plugins than this 'pro' effect. Tried it and deleted.
As a former owner of the actual harware in question I'm glad I got to try and compare, but it's thanks but no thanks.
This is typical Xils - All hype and no substance.

And if you want a decent string machine, try Loomer's, it's great.

For me there are no better alternatives out there, maybe only Orange Vocoder and Antares Articulator, if I am to speak about software only. Most of the Synthedit stuff has a terribly dull sound, unless extra modules are programmed in and even then, it still doesn't sound as raw as I want it. It can certainly sound loud and out of control, but even then it has this particular plastic sounding nature to it.

Secondly a lot of other people would also disagree with your and Yabiss's opinion, in regards to V+, they would say that there is a huge amount of substance and no hype here at all. The synth has never been over promoted, it need not be, it speaks for itself. I've never seen it be sold and resold massively, like some other plugins. It seems to be a keeper for many people.

Thirdly I happen to have used a real VPP 330 for very many years, and know how it's supposed to sound, this is the best emu so far of it, they came amazingly close and I don't usually say that. Xils has not been the best at emulating synths, some of their earlier efforts sounded very Arturia-like, but since their implementation of zero delay feedback filters and other efforts to emulate at component level, and also with this unit they went the extra mile, as it is easily seen. The thing sounds beautiful. Very playable and evocative.

As far as Loomer String, I am one of the biggest champions of that synth, in more ways than you will ever know..... But it's not a Solina emu, nor an emu of any other specific machine, so there it falls short, aside of course from the amazing cosmic strings and pads it makes.

As to agreement, I feel there is something else here, that has nothing to do with the technical achievements of the company. All things considered. Some history with them, disagreements, older versions which failed you??

If there are variations between hardware models why wouldn't there be a variation between the hardware model you had and the software one this is modeled on?

Guys! You can make your custum "no install version" of 90% VST plugins. Just use "Sandboxie" and "SandboxDiff" - look inside sandboxed installation, get registry keys, edit the location-dependent strings and move any data the way you need it to place in. ;) make registry keys and imort it. I made with this such a method most of my plugins. And of cause - changed default data locations and made custom paths, even HardLinks. Good luck!
