Pastoral Tones is a sample based instrument inspired by the sound aesthetic of Boards Of Canada. The plugin includes 62 preset sound to choose from featuring analog synthesizers, flutes, brasses, strings, electric pianos, sound FX, basses and atmospheres.

The acoustic instrument sounds have been sampled from public domain films produced between the 1950s and the 1970s. To thicken the sound, various sound modules have been added, including a sub oscillator, vinyl and film grain noise layers as well as field recordings sampled from public domain old films. All the preset sounds are one sample stretched over 5 octaves of the keyboard. Multi-samples have been avoided to increase loading speed, keep the plugin light on RAM and to obtain that old sampler vibe. As a result, Pastoral Tones runs well on older computer. Furthermore, recordings of public domain films were preferred in order to get the most authentic retro sound possible, the kind of sounds you would hear on a Boards Of Canada album.

Thanks a lot for the share!
Just a heads up to MAC users - it only appears there is a VST version here. Not a big deal, just odd since the SampleScience page clearly states that MAC AU/VST version is available.

Hi,

The developer here, there's no AU because the person who shared it bought the plugin on Sampleism. The AU version is only available through my site. It's interesting to see that renaming the vst will make it works, I didn't know about that!

SampleScience

Not for me at least, I grabbed the UploadRocket link. I wonder if I can just rename to AU and it will work? This is a sample based rompler type of Plugin. I'll try in a couple hours and see what happens?

Thanks psyko67 - I had a feeling it might work ;)

After playing around with this sampler/synth...it kinda feels like cheating, but regardless - there are some really nice BOCish sounds in here!!!

Irritating, Tried to open VST 32 and 64, but the *.mse never loads. Tried even in Sonar but nothing happend. Is it because I only say thanks when works or I like it.

The message: Cannot find any instruments.

Ok, works after renaming it to .component, but .vst does not show in 64 bit cubase.

Any hints, or vst only 32bit? or only AU?

SOLVED: Permission issue!!

It definitely works in Ableton 64 bit OSX in VST,

I didn't know you could simply rename a VST in some cases to .au and that would work! hmmmm.... I'm sure that only works in some cases....

although most if not all AU's are simply wrapped VST's....

(why with a lot of the items you receive on this fine site require installing VST's as WELL as AU's, as the au's reference the VST's... even if you are never going to use them....

sounds a little dangerous to be willy nilly renaming those, but if it works in this case, and you are using Logic or something that ONLY takes au's, cool....
..grateful for HEXWARS, R2R, SYNTHiC4TE, CASHMERE & ALL teams, AZ crew past and present, and friends I have met here who I care for and have been nothing but amazing to me.
