Boz Digital Labs Manic Compressor v1.0.3 WiN RETAiL screenshot
WiN | 55.20 MB
Manic Compressor was designed from the beginning to be more than just a compressor. It was designed to unleash the power of parallel compression without requiring complex routing in your DAW.

Even with 6 different compressor modes and a comprehensive parallel routing setup, Manic Compressor uses an intuitive interface to get you way more power from your compressor than you’ve ever had before.

Maximum Parallel Power

Parallel compression is a key ingredient that has been used by top mixers for years, but up until now, it has always required complex routing and increased clutter in your mix project to be able to utilize it on every track. Many compressors have a mix knob for blending the compressed signal with the dry signal, but we have found that this just doesn’t give enough control to really make use of the extensive power of parallel compression.

With individual wet and dry faders, along with an intuitive yet powerful EQ section, it won’t take long to recognize how much you’ve been missing out on. After using Manic Compressor on our projects, we realized that we have been missing out on a whole new world that we didn’t even know existed with compression.

6 Different Compressors

Even with so many good compressors out there, we find that it’s cumbersome to switch back and forth between different compressors with different settings trying to find the exact match for your track. With Manic Compressor, you can quickly switch between 6 different compressors without having to match settings.

Because Manic Compressor was designed from the ground up to be used in parallel, we were able to make some compressor modes that really shine in parallel.

Built for Abuse

With Manic Compressor’s innovative parallel design and Loudness Relief, this compressor was built to be abused. Subtle compression is a thing of that past (unless you want it, of course). Manic Compressor lets you put your settings to maximum carnage and then ease it off with its unique Loudness Relief knob, which softens the compression artifacts even under super heavy load.

Got this on the Mac the other day - But I've realised that out of all the compressors I have [like over 50] they all pretty much sound the same ! is it just me ?

Now I kind of just use Logic X's built in compressor with all of its different modes and a selection of different distortion/saturation plugins before the compressor in the chain to achieve my results ---

I hear every compressor sounding & working different!
It depends on the music or audio material you work on...
…and on your ears.

22 years I have been writing electronic music - Started with an outboard studio now work completely in the box - --

The differences between compressors are so tiny that it's not even worth worrying about --- This seams to be what a lot of producers I'm in contact with think as well - I'm talking about very well established DnB producers out there - -- Think compressors are actually all a bit of a con - bit of a psychological trapping - --

May be true – but the RESULTS are often very different!
Vertigo VSC-2 by PA has [on the side of PRO–users] a very solid reputation.
I also like the FabFilter Pro-C & SONNOX Limiter.

I was using the compressor in iZotope's Trash for while one point earlier this year - Also The Glue - but again I feel Logic's comps are great for most tasks --- I think there might actually be a lot of really good successful tracks out there that use only built in Daw plugins too...

Have you tried using Fabfilters multi band compressor with a single band - like a broadband compressor ? Works very well Kookaboo :)

22 years in DnB... that's really awesome. I'm in year 2, and still floundering in many aspects. I think you're right about different compressors achieving pretty much the same thing. They definitely act in somewhat different ways, but maybe the way you are configuring them so that they fit your material is what gives the impression that they're the same. I don't know. Ultimately it's how you configure it... just throwing on a specific compressor won't make all of the difference. Through my limited experience that's the way I see it. The interface is also a big part of it... the configurability, the ease with which you can zero in on the sound you want, and so on

I think you raise an interesting point - With an aggressive sound like DnB your not really gonna benefit from some of the subtle tonality coloration designed to treat a delicate vocal part say --- I tend to use a compressor for a number of things: Increasing or decreasing the transients on drum parts - Creative side chaining - Levelling out the packs of a signal - As an EQ - For creating distortion etc But my original point was that I find I can achieve all of those things with Logic's own compressors apart for maybe the EQ part - that I tend to use Fabfilters multi band compressor for...

I agree with Stoneforce. There would just never be an instance where a normal listener is going to say "Oh dang, listen to that compression on this track" I also feel the same about all the "console sounding, crosstalk, vintage strip" plugins out there, and even EQ's. Nobody can tell the different when you listen to a finished track, if you used them right. I tend to get plugins that look pretty, and do what I need with the least amount of CPU as possible these days. Ive been making music for around 20 years now. Mainly dark DnB, but have made rap, hip hop, trip hop, etc..owned a studio at one point, worked alot in other studios... Ive tried it all. In the box, out of the box, hardware, software.... its relatively all the same and not noticeable in a finished track, in my opinion.

compressors are complicated things. they can destroy a mix like no other instrument!
The only compressor plugin that caught my attention was algorithmix splitcomp. but may be that was a psychological thing since i couldn't have one after the demo expired!1

Tried so many different compressors myself but I personally think Klanghelm is probably the most under-rated of them all.

Yes, Klanhelm make really impressive plugins. They're beautifully designed, and I find the sound has some unique characteristics. For 2 bus compression I will usually throw MJUC on after the Glue/API 2500/TDR Kotelnikov/Klanghelm DC8C. I'm going to add manic compressor to that list and see how it measures up. As for other compression tasks, I love to use uhe's presswork... that is one beast of a plugin. And of coures also Fabfilter's Pro-C. For drums I find nothing works as well as Softube's Valley People Dyna-mite. Close runner-ups are Waves dbx-160 and PSP's Mixpressor. Not that I know how to use all of them to their best potential, but that's what I'm working on. My goal is to cut down on the number of plugins I use once I have a few favourites that I know inside and out.

Btw. The installer for WiN included in this package was written totally crappy.
It contains some files twice (checked crc & hash) and was packed without compression (lol, linguistic joke).

I repacked it quickly and my final installer only takes 10MB of space.
Don't know why the developers didn't write a proper installer for their product.
