its not the same. you cant quickly just set up a sidechain / spectral ducking system on an insert. Like you said, you need an aux. This has it baked in, making it that much more simple. It also happens to be a decent reverb. This is great for quick, sound design reverb, on a per track basis. It really sits things nicely in a mix, without it being obvious or overbearing.

You can save your favorite reverbs and soothe sidechain ducking for a send that you send many elements of your mix to.

You are half right. Because technically (from the view of programming), this plugin has a parallel processing with the wet reverb + side chain input from the dry signal β†’ summing all together. So, the GUI makes it easy. That said, you could use something like BlueCat Patchwork, put your favourite reverb on the parallel bus + Soothe/Trackspacer after that with the s/c input from the audio track itself. Then, you could also use your favourite reverb as an insert.
That said, why would you want to use an insert anyway? I mean, yes, you could, but there are much more benefits to using an aux track, alone STEM export.
And also, I would argue that Soothe/Trackspacer or this plugin use spectral ducking, yet they all don't take into account wether the dry signal is actually being masked by the reverb, at all. This is not obvious to most people, and to be fair, this is not always communicated clearly from the developers: Trackspacer and Soothe simply analyze the incoming s/C signal and subtract it from the wet signal. Whereas plugins like Smartcomp1 and 2, pureunmask, SmartEQ4 and some other really analyze potential masking problems and then only subtract if and where it is happening. Hope this makes it clear.
So, the cleanest and most logical way would be to use those specific unmasking tools. I admit that I mostly use Soothe2 though, because it doesn't need the process of analyzing the signal.

Dunno why Izotope insist that Catalina's not supported when almost all of it's plugins work with it?
Anyways, Quick test on vocals and I'm impressed.
Even with massive tails it still manages to keep clarity and you can even control the attack of the unmasking.

It does what it's meant to do and is really designed to slap on an insert but it's also a really nice verb when used without the unmasking function (engage solo button)

Stick it on an auxilliary, like they used to in the old days, and you can feed different amounts of different instruments into it. That way, it will clear space for different instruments as they come and go but still sound really clear overall.

It's really simple to operate but it's doing a lot and I i'll be using it in my next project for sure.

quote by Superhero123Better option:

- use all your favorite reverbs, as many as you want in every tracks you want
- send all reverbs to an extra aux track
- put soothe on it (either use the preset β€žcontrol reverb build upβ€œ or use side chain ducking)
- I bet this sounds still 100x better than this all in one reverb lol

How would you route this in ableton?

Lets just use the reverb "Raum" as an example...

lets say I have a synth track. You're saying that I can use Raum on the actual synth track (not as a send, but on the actual midi track)

- this is where the confusion comes -

Do i send my synth track to a return track that has soothe on it? Or are you talking about sending "just the raum" from the synth track to this return with Soothe on it? If its the second, how would you route that in ableton? (I.E. just sending RAUM to soothe on a return) without sending the actual synth sound

Sorry for the stupid question.

Typically what i've done in the past. Lets say I want to use Raum. I would put raum on a return track, then dial that into the synth with taste. If Raum was causing issues with build up I would put trackspacer behind it or something similar.

Could you elaborate your setup please? Sorry for the n00b question.

... and thank you MORIA!

To do something like what Superhero is describing in Ableton, there's multiple ways.

How I'd probably go about in ableton specifically would be to put all your reverbs in this scenario in return tracks and then route those return tracks "Audio To" to a normal track with soothe on it.

So basically, in your normal situation where you have "Raum" on a return track, instead of sending that return track's output to Master, send it to another track that has soothe on it. Of course, that would be redundant in that situation because there's only one reverb "Raum" but what he's saying is if you had multiple like "Raum" and sending those to another aux.

It's somewhat adjacent to an FX Bus if you've ever worked with one before. I suggest looking into the different ways in which people setup mixes, you'll learn a lot quickly and slowly start to iron out the workflow you like best.

See what I mean? Lemme know if you still got ?'s

*Also don't say sorry for asking questions

No noob questions bro.

You have answered the question yourself. I was talking about aux tracks with a reverb on it + soothe/trackspacer behind it with the s/c from the dry source.

If you want to use your favourite reverb as an insert on the track itself, you would need to use something like BlueCat Patchwork, open you favourite reverb on its parallel chain + trackspacer/soothe behind it with the s/c signal from the track itself. Should work, I guess. Never uses that. I rarely use reverbs as inserts, except I want the signal to be almost/fully wet.

In Ableton could you theoretically do this using an effect rack?

Using a basic example. ..

You have some sick lead out of serum/diva/etc and want to add reverb.

Would you β€œgroup” serum to create an audio effect rack then from there have two channels -

The first channel In the chain is just serum - no wet fix
Then you clone that same channel, but add β€œraum” (for example sake” and then use trackspacer/soothe

So to make sure everything I’m saying is clear..
You have a effect group
Channel one is serum, no wet fx
Channel two is a clone of serum - raum - trackspacer (and track spacer is sidechained to the dry serum?)

Then blend channel two with channel one to taste.

Does that make sense? I’ve always been curious about this. If you use multiple channels In an effects rack do they essentially act as return tracks?

Also what’s the different between a send and return track?

I’m smelling awfully noobie over here….

And again thank you to Moria along with the other users that have chimed in to educate this special needs producer lol
