GForce Software Oberheim OB-E v2.0 WiN/MAC [MORiA] screenshot
MORiA | February, 23 | AUi | VST3i | STANDALONE | VSTi | AAX* | 175.88 MB
THE OB-E – AN OBERHEIM OCTAPHONIC SONIC ADVENTURE The Oberheim OB-E is our take on the legendary Oberheim® 8-Voice and the first software instrument ever to receive Tom Oberheim’s personal endorsement. More than just an emulation, the OB-E offers a unique musical experience. Sounding HUGE, it takes the iconic Synthesizer Expander Module (SEM®) based 8-Voice (a.k.a the EVS) into new sonic territory via a raft of enhancements and additions.
The concept of the 8-Voice is actually very simple; based around a single SEM containing two VCOs with Pulse and Sawtooth waveforms, two ADS Envelope Generators, one LFO, and a magical Multi-Mode Filter. In isolation each SEM is monophonic, but in the 8-Voice, because there are eight SEMs triggered by a polyphonic keyboard, you have a superb eight note polyphonic synthesizer.
This unique Octaphonic architecture offers fresh and exciting creative possibilities to music producers, composers and sound designers for the first time in the digital realm.

AN AUGMENTED YET AUTHENTIC INSTRUMENT
We’ve painstakingly emulated every section of the synth to ensure sonic authenticity while adding the convenience of software control over those eight SEMs. Mono, Mono Legato, Poly, Unison and Split keyboard modes are all available. Add to this the new VCO3, doubling as an audio rate LFO for each SEM, and a stack of additional performance controls via velocity, polyphonic after-touch and MPE control then you’ll begin to understand the depth of musical possibilities OB-E provides.

PATCH SELECTION
700+ FACTORY PATCHES SAVED IN VARIOUS CATEGORIES AND WITH TAGS.

A COLLABORATION WITH OBERHEIM AND NEW ‘VINTAGE’ CONTROL
As we neared the release of OB-E®, we were contacted by Tom Oberheim and Marcus Ryle (an Oberheim engineer in the 1980s) who were impressed enough to suggest a collaboration offering support to refine OB-E and to release the v2 update carrying their full endorsement. Despite receiving several Best Soft Synth 2021 awards, working under the guidance of Tom and Marcus, we further enhanced the already incredible sounding OB-E. Refining the Detune feature and adding a new Vintage control, dials in more realistic musical inaccuracies in line with the original instrument for a truly authentic 8-Voice experience.

NEW IN OB-E V2 (NOW MACOS & WINDOWS)
The enhanced OB-E V2 is a pin sharp emulation of the Oberheim® 8-Voice thanks to the new Vintage control and a highly refined Detune parameter. In addition, it’s now available for both macOS and Windows.
OB-E V2 features a new reverb, 100+ new Patches (bringing the total to over 700), a new Zoom function for the sequencer along with a crazy new Drum Mode enabling each SEM to be triggered by a dedicated key. We’ve also added 10 drum kit Presets to get you started. If you are looking for a new analog drum machine, give it a go, it might surprise you.

VST3 works for me. Did you replace the file in the "Common Files" folder?

it's different unit, this is based on the Oberheim SEM Eight-Voice (Oberheim Synthesizer Expander Module x 8) Synapse one is the Oberheim OB-Xa.

Oberheim OB-Xa has different filter (Curtis Ladder Filter), the earlier model than the OB-Xa, the Oberheim OB-X use the same state-variable filter like the SEM and modeled by the DiscoDSP OB-Xd but still different unit and sound character.

Arturia SEM V2 is more likely the same like this one (can be programmed to 8 voice), but too early to say anything, might as well enjoy this one, the presets are good.
It makes no sense to say you’re not good at it. It’s like saying, “I’m not good at being a monk.” You are either living as a monk or you’re not.

Thank you for clarifying this. Was not aware it's two different models, just saw OB and assumed it's likely the same. Very interesting!

i would not say better, they are complimentary.

Obsession is really good.. Even if its just a "Curtis chip", and not the one on OB-X.. the filter Synapse used is very musical, and the cross mod is amazing too.

I had the Register or Trial issue initially. In Windows, I opened it and just wrote in 1234567890 and it registered. I imagine you can write anything, but that worked for me. Also, I did this in the standalone version. I don't know if it makes any difference, but either way, it works now as a VST3 and standalone. Thanks guys.

Although that is only for the standalone; the plugin version also has the option of a dropdown in the header.
At least on some OS's, in some DAWs.

better than Cherry Audio's Eight Voice? What to you think?
  Resident 8.06.2021 694

Not sure about that one, but I can say I prefer this one over Arturia's version

lmao are you serious? cherry audio's plugins are nowhere near close to the originals. their memorymoog was seriously disappointing.

honestly cherry audio's plugins should be free like full bucket audio and they should not pretend its actually close because its not. cherry's plugins are their own thing, simply inspired by the originals, much like full bucket audio's emulations.

OB-E could well be better than both arturia sem and bx_oberhausen. i'll see for myself.

Edit: OB-E is very good. Better than oberhausen and uses less CPU and doesn't rely on cheap effects on presets.

Welp, that's one take... You may not like them, you prefer others, but don't let the price point fool you - it's simply an alternative business model, not an indicator of quality. Their plugs are carefully modeled and, for the most part, sound fantastic. I haven't tried the Moog emu. But I heartily recommend the Mercury-4.

Lol, I tried being gentle! Yes, they're usable and nostalgic soft synths. But when you pit it against real hardware, they aren't very close. And personally their synths lack that high end bite/sheer - particularly DCO-106 really underwhelmed me. Also I am morally against their online activation bullshit. I might have gave them money if they provide a simple offline license file via email attachment to unlock the full version and no login box.

Cherry Audio can be purely summed as "You get what you pay for". And I have a problem with that because free synths are increasingly competitive. Full Bucket Audio also makes simulations just as 'accurate' as Cherry Audio, but fully free. There's even synths on PluginBotique that hit $3-$9 USD, so $40 for a lackluster emulation that requires an online account to activate is pushing it.

Sound-wise, even the Mercury-4 itself does not trick my ears - it has its own distinct muted sound... and you need to EQ and exciter/saturation to even get close to the Jupiter-4. See these comparisons... https://youtu.be/R49V5GvIPA8?t=280 it doesn't hit the spot at all for me.

BTW.. I know perfection is impossible, but stuff like OB-E, Repro/Diva and Obsession show that we can always get just a bit closer.

I like Cherry Audio's emulations because they're super affordable and still pretty good, but from what I've seen so far, OB-E is quite a bit better than CA Eight Voice.

I'd think to do a proper comparison, I'd want to compare apples to apples a bit better.. similar setups. I'm too lazy to set them up equally though. I'll save that for someone on YT. lol Right now I'm just flipping through random presets on each of them, and I have to say the OB-E is pretty damn impressive. I love CA stuff, but I don't think I'm at all as equally impressed by any single one of their pads as I am by several of the OB-E pads. I would like to crawl up inside of some of these pads, they're so warm. hah

@RPM: Arturia's emulation is an OB-Xa vs. the OB EVS-1 (8 SEM modules) emulated by the CA Eight Voice and Gforce OB-E. They shouldn't really sound the same, and it's a bit unfair to compare them together.

The OB-Xa is not Arturia’s only Oberheim emulation. Consider checking out the SEM V.

Press Play on DAW and OBE sequencer patch works
  Member 27.10.2021 190

The sequencer seems to instantly work if I press play in my DAW. Strange. Can't turn off notes but can use notes to transpose. Maybe this is intended?

Edit: Yes this is how it is supposed to work. Some patches can be setup so you can play a line on 7 SEMs while playing a sequence on only one SEM.
