As molokosos said, it's based on a vintage exciter (the dolby tape A"), so you can't simply replicate it with an high-shelf.
Actually you would have to make 2 parallel aux, each one with a different high pass and a compressor, and then reinject those 2 to your main signal.
Don't get me wrong, it's definitly doable without this plugin, but not your usual one-knob EQ move...
PS: I don't know if Slate has modelled the nonlinearities of the dolby processor, it would make the process more difficult to reproduce exactly with average Eq & compressor

Yup, I cannot abide iLOK, either. I've had it twice and have sold it twice since, depending on the day, it either works or it doesn't. And, since I work offline, I can't always just jump online and root out the problem...not that I should have to.

For those who try to buy or use regular it's possible to put in your ilok dongle also.. it ask in first use if you want so it's more easy to use for me.... But I think it's only free on Black Friday ....

tried this, not a bad free gift, quite useful on a certain approach, but when going to the extreme it becomes harsh when I compare it with Rothmann Air..

but after all, it is one great free plugins by Slate. At least it is way better gesture than Softube with never-ending the only free old saturation plugin.

I actually don't know why this is posted here as "free". Because you need a slate account and an iLok Account and an actual iLok Dongle to use this.

I've gotta say this slate stuff is really overhyped af. So far I've tested the free modules that com with Slatve VMR as well as fresh air and i'Ve gotta say, I think these plugins are sounding cheap . They smear transients a lot and everything you put it on turns into an undefined washy mud.

In Reaper, VST is ok, VST3 not loaded (the paths are right. I also tried to copy the vst3 to another folder.). My iLok is ok.
Anyone with the same problem?

Audio Thing Type-A and Overloud Gem Dopamine are Dolby based. And also hardware emulating. They offer low distortion and transparency (in a part of high region), but are unacceptably amplitude non-linear, so I abandoned them.
I doubt that this one works much differenty. I never use iLok based plugins anyway.
