There are also Slate Digital FG STRESS, cocell productions/pensadia SOR8 (and its free version called cocell productions stressor) , sly-fi deflector, antress modern deathcore... As well as other Sknote's Disto versions which are different

They're claiming it's an emulation of the Empirical Labs hardware unit. Empirical Labs doesn't even claim Arousor is a direct emulation of a Distressor. With that in mind, I found it is very similar to Arousor, albeit with some different gain staging and slightly different saturation. You can get the two to do quite a bit of phase cancellation, though nothing completely. They're different enough.

I still have to spend a lot more time playing to make a judgement on "better". But at $250 cheaper.... my initial thoughts are it's an insanely good deal for the quality.

I compared it to UAD Distressor, which is claimed as emulation of hardware. For me UAD sounds softer but not so much different as price.
And actually in the final mix if plugin not on master it will de difficult to recognise where what.

PS.But
MSRP: 299$
for this price I would definitely prefer UAD

U must be deaf to think that... The Arouser by Empirical Labs is one of the best sounding plugs I've ever used. Arouser is also far more flexible than the direct Distressor emulations offered by the others.

I wont jump in here and say its better than UAD or any other modeled version of the hardware...BUT i own and have been using 4 of the hardware units for many years on the front end of my recording chain in my studio This guy nails the sound of the hardware units...its good top quality emu of the real deal ITB... I get asked alot what is my favorite compressors i own ...i have many favorites mono and stereo....but if i could only have one mono or a stereo pair of compressors it would be 2 distressors. These units can simply do any kind of compression i need from clean smooth slow action to the fastest dirtiest most beutiful smashing distortion you could ever bathe your audio in

That's good to hear. How would you compare the saturation? I find myself using Arousor all the time on 1:1 ratio for its saturation alone. There's this really sweet spot (for drums especially) where you're gaining a ton of headroom while still sounding clean enough and not full-on saturated or distorted.

Every unit i have has a little different sound but nothing that is a deal breaker by no means... ;) of the 4 units i own one of them sounds better than the others as most all hardware is this way..as for the saturation i think it sounds pretty good for a model yeah...i personally like the other distressor version SKnote modeled first gives you alot more options man. Try it iut if you havent saturation is steller

I played with this and tested it extensively comparing it to PSP Vintage Warmer and while it's close in the end I tend to prefer Vintage Warmer, although it's probably just because I'm so accustomed to it.

I kinda think the same, but since I have already bought the Disto and got the thoughtful free version 2 upgrade, my bases are covered for my intended applications and don't feel the need to shell out the big bucks for the Arouser. I'll live.

This one really goofed my system good. I now have a folder that cannot be deleted, even on a restart. Anyone really check this one for issues?

Update: Ok. was able to only remove it with : rd "New folder" /s
