Midi Madness is an algorithmic melody generator, in AU/VST format for Mac OSX and Windows. Simply choose your settings and let Midi Madness create riff-after-riff for you. You can playback the melody in real time, and twist up your MIDI CCs too!



Choose your note weightings. Select as many notes as you want (or don’t want) or choose a pre-made chord. Midi Madness will show you the best chords to use in the sequence from the key you give.
Select how you want the velocities of the notes to be spread.



Choose your note lengths, and whether you want staccato or legato (or everything in-between!). Add a few rests to break up the riff.
Set your octave range, from deep basslines, to soaring leads, or have a wide range for some manic magic!
Add a little humanisation to take away that robotic feel. Have your riff groove along with the beat.

Nah... If it was this simple, everybody could produce great songs by one mouse click. I've been watching algorithmic composition software with great interest since the Atari ST days, but we're still far from there.
If you know any software that will compose really nice and catching melodies, please tell me, I'd be happy to find one.

Thanks very much for this! Anyone know how to get it to control a parameter on a native Ableton Live effect or instrument? It was simple to control a VST/AU parameter but Live won't play ball...

Hey, I had this same problem earlier, it's a little confusing. Make sure you "select" chord in the first notes tab & in the length tab make sure you have a few of the vertical bars in the center (above the note pictures) activated. Worked for me right after I did that

Make sure if you're on live you use the vst midi madness plug in to send midi . au in live wont' work . Thanks Modulus .

Generative midi is an interesting tool, always requiring the user to implement taste on output, but can be a great doldrums or writers block tool.... thanks so much HEXWARS and Modulus! You guys are definitely (as Cat said), making for a great friday!
