Sononym v1.0.4 OSX screenshot
OSX | AudioZ Exclusive | 140.05 MB
Sononym represents an innovative approach to sample browsing, using machine learning and audio feature extraction to make personal sample collections searchable and discoverable.

The primary innovation in Sononym is called "Similarity Search", a special search mode which accepts any sound as the input, and finds relevant sounds throughout your sample collection. Using this approach, it's even possible to connect a synth, guitar or microphone to locate samples by recording new sounds on-the-fly.

In addition to this, the software offers many other features that you would expect from a sample browser, such as fully searchable and sortable file/results views and a modern, streamlined user interface.

The most important features at a glance:

Works with your own files: recordings, soundware collections, any source.
Cross-platform: Sononym is available for Windows, Linux and OS X.
Deep audio analysis: extracts pitch, tempo, brightness etc.
Self-organizing content: Automatically groups samples into relevant categories, such as loops and oneshots, kicks or snares.
Similarity Search: a powerful way to discover variations of any sound.
Live recording: quickly find samples based on any input you provide.
Integrated bookmarking and export: don't lose the flow while browsing.
Random Preview: avoid listening to the same few samples over and over.

No support for Apple Loops, Acid WAV, REX/RX2 and no plugin version so I'm quite sure the answer is no. You'll need Ableton/Logic/... for that.

Supported formats: See https://www.sononym.net/docs/manual/formats/

This is about the fifth "similarity finder" utility I'm going to try - been fairly underwhelmed with what I've heard and seen so far. I have yet to find one that is specific enough to actually find samples that the average human would indeed consider sonically similar, and not show samples that aren't.

They're mentioning the use of a neural network but no word about what kind of samples and known criteria it has been fed.

How does this compare to ADSR Sample Manager & Loopcloud? Anyone have insight?

I haven't tried this one but I find that Loopcloud and ADSR extremely slow to the point that they are useless. They also store huge indexing files which immediately made me delete both.

In my case they are not slow, besides that If you want a fully equipped sample management tool you need those indexing files.

For me that's ok if it works well, but It's hard to imagine who might use samples in this way nowadays. You need to search and find everything you want in Sononym and then point to each sample location manually, that's the useless part for me.

You'd be surprised how many producers use samples. It's quintessential to have an arsenal of samples (tools) in production imo.

I was very happy when the WIN version was posted, as well as the ADSR plugin that is free btw, but after using them a bit, I realized that this kind of apps only adds noise to my workflow, of course is just my experience, but having such a good browser in Ableton Live 10 turn this standalone app in an unneccesary hassle.

The functionality of finding "similar" samples and AI implementation is a technology that we are seeing each day more like in the recent "XLN XO" and is welcome, even when in most cases is pretty bad implemented, but even when working ok, the lack of drag & drop samples to the DAW in this case and a relationship between the file management of the app and the DAW makes it only useful as a "similar sample finder" (doubtful) but not as an integral sample management tool as I eagerly wished.

Imo Abletons search function is okay for finding anything named a certain word but without tags it makes it somewhat not so great. Hopefully they improve this feature. It would streamline production.

Or they could do an Apple move. Buy them and integrate it into Live.

seems like it is not cracked right. the errors posted go away once this is code signed. but as soon as the Mac goes online, it crashes.
